just got done with the trial and, well I guess I may just be accused of being a fanboi or 'biodrone', for what it's worth it was well beyond my expectations, it was spectacular, from what I played it has everything, just a handful of hours and it was one of the greatest experiences in gaming I've ever had, in almost 30 years of gaming. from scanning your environment, reading datapads and terminals, investigations, mysteries, flavor dialogue, quiet moments, loud action set pieces, emotions, suspense, comradery, rivalry, even the junk loot has codex entries, it has everything I've been looking for in a game for years. I can not wait for release.

Do people really care that much about reviews anyway? Yes. While one preview or review isn't worth either getting too excited or worried about (unless you always share the same opinion as that particular critic), the general consensus from a lot of people reviewing a product is often a very good indicator of that product's quality. There is a reason why sites like Rotten Tomatoes exist for films. To be honest, I've grown distrustful of reviews lately.

It sounds like it's going about as well as expected. While it's undoubtedly a good game, great games seem to be beyond Bioware's grasp, which has been true for five years so no surprise there.
This made me laugh.

Here.Honestly, I'm concerned. The bit about characters is especially bad. How do you lose sight of what people like about your games to this degree? Sorry if there's already been a thread about this, I missed it. I share your concern! It sucks to read that the opening is the weakest of the series so far, especially since it was something ME used to excell at. And then there are all kinds of little things that pile on, like suddenly you have your helmet on , no fluid movement just there all of a sudden.

IIRC, Shinobi also said that the CC in this game was fantastic. Isn't Shinobi like a Bioware insider? Anyway he is biased, can't trust his opinion on the game. Can go to him for leaks though. I wouldn't trust any of the "influencers" EA invited to the preview event last week... they all where praising the game to high heavens without pointing out any of the apparent flaws. I've been playing the game for 2 hours last night, and yea: The quality is bad... both on the technical and on the narrative side.

Having actually played it for 4 hours, I'm having such a good time. That's their opinions but for the most part, I don't see it. It's absolutely Mass Effect.

Can you confirm can you take your helmet off whenever you want? Aside of times when there is no air ! Don't know, my save game is on a 'hot planet' and I am wearing my helmet. (goes to try to take it off...) EDIT: Yes I could take it off. There are 3 options (in unsurprisingly: 'Options') - 'As Equipped' so gameplay and cutscenes play with whether you have the helmet equipped or not.
- 'Helmet off in cutscenes' - It's on in Gameplay but cutscenes it comes off automatically (excluding airlessness)
- 'Helmet off in Gameplay and cutscenes' - it's only on when it has to be.

Oh, not to say it doesn't feel like Mass Effect... it very much does. Still, technically (animations, textures, etc.) it feels like a very dated game, and the opening narrative - while somewhat engaging - feels very rushed and "tone deaf", in places.

Do people really care that much about reviews anyway? Play it yourself and if you enjoy it who cares what anyone else says. I have seen reviews of many games that are high rated but I thought they were absolute rubbish. Like others have said it is a preview, not a review. A general consensus can be a fair indicator of some problems to expect, but yeah it's best not to trust them entirely. I ended up loving DA2, when by and large people kept trying to give me reasons why I should actively despise it.

How did that piece of shit get 95%? It's like watching something on SyFy.

I can see that I will be needing to tolerate very little in this game.

Oh for sure there will always be problems and if they are genuine I can accept that but some just like to nitpick ever little thing. Like you said no one should rely on reviews as you just never know what you may like, like you said DA2 was disliked by many and you liked it.

True, I felt the same about DA2... still, character dialogue wise, even that game was better then what I experienced in the first few hours of MEA. I really liked Alec, but half of Saras lines sound so out of context and totally miss the tone of the scene... and that continues to some characters on the Nexus. Nope snow White, I was merely specifying what I find "bad"...

I'm guessing the game feels more like ME1 than 2. I liked 1 more because it felt more like a RPG so I'm good with that. ME2 was the first game I played in the series.
I don't mind the slow build either my problem is the things they choose to take out. Really makes no sense at all.
Seem one step forward and two steps back.
Just need to find out for myself next week but I'm thinking of down grading.

Wow, I guess I should make a thread for every good preview released too, which from the seven so far, six were positive. But sure, let's keep the fucking hyperbole.
People really want this to fail hard by the looks of this forum, and others. Instead of making a thread to keep track of the media outlets, let's make threads for the negative ones, since those will please our agenda.
What a joke.

I've played as much as PC Gamer, and I think the game is fucking great. I just posted the Kotaku preview as it's own topic since, y'know, all these fucking topics are getting made about bad previews (although they are in the deep minority), so yeah: my own thoughts are nearly on par with Kotaku's so that's my thoughts on the matter. The echo chamber is only real if you let it rebound in your head, fam. Wow, I guess I should make a thread for every good preview released too, which from the seven so far, six were positive. I'm really baffled by the ludicrous decision to have your character have a sibling and then never show the interaction or try to set the chemistry between them. In a better world you'd craft both twins, then watch an introduction where 'something happens' while both twins are on-screen, active, then the game could let you choose one of them as your MC. Why should you care about a big white box? If your sibling doesn't wake up in reasonable time-frame there's NO reason to have a sibling at all. The coma thing is a device plot for not having him on the prologue mission or in the first hour of the pathfinder being officially announced. In the other case, they should had come with a very good reason for us being the pathfinder and not Scott. Not sure a head or tail scenario would have been great. We know since a long time (and confirmed with trailers) that the ryder twin will woke up at some point.
