I'm really baffled by the ludicrous decision to have your character have a sibling and then never show the interaction or try to set the chemistry between them. In a better world you'd craft both twins, then watch an introduction where 'something happens' while both twins are on-screen, active, then the game could let you choose one of them as your MC. Why should you care about a big white box? If your sibling doesn't wake up in reasonable time-frame there's NO reason to have a sibling at all. The coma thing is a device plot for not having him on the prologue mission or in the first hour of the pathfinder being officially announced. In the other case, they should had come with a very good reason for us being the pathfinder and not Scott. Not sure a head or tail scenario would have been great. We know since a long time (and confirmed with trailers) that the ryder twin will woke up at some point. The script is not set in stone. It would be great to have a prologue mission with your twin as the squadmate and have him/her disabled after it, therefore you'd avoid the dilemma of "who should be Pathfinder". Or just have Your Ryder talk-fu it with the sibling. Or share the title for a couple of hours until your sibling gets disabled for whatever reason. Not setting up your relationship with your twin brother/sister just plain sucks. Showing you a big white box and saying that this is your brother stinks. Let's hope your twin wakes up relatively fast so you can talk with him/her. It would be best if second Ryder was the secret companion. They do have preset personalities after all.

Wow, I guess I should make a thread for every good preview released too, which from the seven so far, six were positive. But sure, let's keep the fucking hyperbole. People really want this to fail hard by the looks of this forum, and others. Instead of making a thread to keep track of the media outlets, let's make threads for the negative ones, since those will please our agenda. What a joke. I'm with you and Ivory on this one mate! I'll never understand why the positive reviews (which DO outnumber the negatives by a fair margin) get immediately discounted as "untrustworthy" or my personal favourite "produced by Biovar Shillz." Yet the odd negative review gets held up as the bloody gospel truth. Makes me wonder what this place will be like when we've all played and finished the game...

The game has more faults then it does positives. It clearly needed more time for development and testing, actually feel sorry for the devs on this one. EA monster and all that crap. But devs have some blame for the heat they are getting aka they said 4k 60fps no problem with 1080ti lol not even close, so now they are restating their statement that what they actually meant it would get that performance in multiplayer and not story mode..
Seriously..
Only positive i give it is hdr 10 looks great on pc everything else needs another year or two to even get close to its proper potential.

Its an interesting review/preview. Reading that PC Gamer review, they seem to say that it's good but flawed. I've also watched the Gamespot roundtable as well.
From my POV, the initial characters in ME have been weak. Kaiden was the video game equivalent of a boiled potato sandwich with mayo on white bread. Jacob was his black equivalent. There just wasn't much there to work with. Even Chakwas was more interesting over the course of the series. Since they're limited to the first 10 hours, I think it'll open up. I could even see and hear the frustration in the reviewers tone about how they wanted to talk about stuff behind the embargo.
I was worried about the scanner and that seems to have been validated. The UI complaint was unwelcome news.
Throwing you right into it without much narrative buildup is a risky plot device, but that's what ME3 did, and it worked. I'm guessing that, same as ME3, the writers presumed a passing familiarity with the game's world, which they felt allowed them to go from 0 to 60 right away. I'm firing it up tomorrow, so I can't wait to see how well it works.

The recent article posted on twitter thread from PC gamer shown a more positive vibe of the game then yesterday's. Maybe the game turns out better (in certain areas. I'm not expecting animations to become better) after the first hours.

Performance has been amazing for me on my aging 3770K and GTX 980 - feels optimised and smooth af. HDR10 does indeed look amazing, my TV came up with the HDR tab and I was like "holy shit"....I didn't even know it was an HDR game lol. I'm not seeing these faults you speak of though: sure, there are niggles (like when you open a container and it stops action completely, pausing the game), but nothing like you're saying (obviously, this is my shill opinion though) lol.

Trust me im a big fan of mass effect, but playing through this trial with a totally open mind things keep popping up. We already know about crazy face and eye ball stuff. But ui for pc is not fully functional like mentioned, Constantly see enemy Ai getting stuck on objects and not doing anything, frame time issues which are much more apparent when using a mouse, for me with my 55 inch 4k i want to try 1440p but it down sizes the screen aka doesnt fill the whole tv for some reason. The writing i wont even talk about as im just on the initial planet taking my time exploring, trust me that is awesome its like mass effect 1 but much bigger and gives you good reason to explore the environment, really like that.
Overall my biggest issues is the smoothness of the gameplay, im not talking fps its more of Frametime and the pc ui not being the best nor fully operational aka no toggle for walk.. theirs more but i just hate writing long posts most have been mentioned from others in multiple other forums and such. I hope its more polished come next week, my concern is its been said that the day 1 patch is included with this trial correct?
ps i have pre ordered the deluxe edition so im not a total flame hater blah blah. Really want this game to be good

Well, there's some worrying stuff in there, especially since unlike the RPS guy it wasn't remotely hard to take these guys seriously... Can't say I'm surprised the start feels rushed, suspect as much from IGN's first 13 minutes. Should have spent some time in introducing father and sibling before leaving for Andromeda at the start. Should also have kept dad around for an hour or two but developers seem very scared not to make the player the leader and hero very early on. Two of the four people were still enjoying it though, despite some complaints, so that's a good sign. And one of the other two had been too busy running benchmarks. Interesting as well how they said it was a mistake by EA to limit them to talk about the early game with the one having played more of it liking it a lot more but unable to say why... Habitat 7 Mission Spoiler It is actually pretty funny when during the shuttle down to Habitat 7 Liam says something like "We didn't get to meet before we left the Milky Way" to Ryder and I was like...........the elite teams didn't even train together to see if they could work as a unit? Uh.......wtf? I think most of the first couple hours feel like a B Movie, I like B movies so it doesn't bother me but for anybody who doesn't it is probably going to be an issue.

Well, at least nobody will say the writing wasn't there on the wall. Opening is one of the most important things in the game, and if after 6 hours a guy says he doesn't want more, I will definitely wait for MP opinions. Judging or giving up on a game after 6 hours especially when you can easily spend 60+ hours to beat it sounds pretty idiotic. Opening is fine. Witcher 3 opening was slow as hell, and that game turned out amazing. I would argue and say that I like the first few hours very much.

Three game-dudes did not like BioWARE's first male squad mate. They called him Kaiden. 'Cause it's a swear-word. Alert the press! If they have liked him, I'd be more concerned.
TBH, what they dissed I actually liked the sound of! not much intro to the family, grab the gun and go, go, go!

The world is cynical, and gets more so, every year
people behind the safety of their keyboards, bitch, moan, cry and whine about everything that offends them or upsets them.
The detractors, are louder than the supporters.
I'll read a review, or watch, just to get the gist of the game and some information on it, but I don't givea flying fk whether Angry Joe or Jim Stirling, or Rock paper shotgun, or whomever. recommends or doesn't reccomend a game. that's their own opinion and I'm not a mindless drone that can't think for one's self.
I also make enough money with my job to not care about losing $70 on a one time payment if I decide I dont like something.. people are just whiny and entitled.
Aside from some performance options, and the underlying feeling that this engine doesn't seem like it fits with the game very well, I actually like the game a lot.

My big takeaway from that piece is that the tonal shift is going to be divisive. Sara sounds like a snarky 20-year-old? Well, why not? She is a snarky 20-year-old.But that doesn't mean that you have to like that design choice.

I'm with you and Ivory on this one mate! I'll never understand why the positive reviews (which DO outnumber the negatives by a fair margin) get immediatly discounted as "untrustworthy" or my personal favourite "produced by Biovar Shillz." Yet the odd negative review gets held up as the bloody gospel truth. Makes me wonder what this place will be like when we've all played and finished the game... Oh come on, there are people out there that literally have the "sponsored by EA" tag in their PREview vids. I'm not saying that are no notorious naysayers too, but - fact is - there hasn't been really any impartial criticism of the game yet at all... ... and that remains true even about the criticisms you've been making... You're not impartial by any stretch of the imagination. Neither am I. I doubt you'll ever find an impartial opinion about any Bioware game these days... unless you can find a hermit whose never set eyes on a gaming console or computer before... and then only if you keep them totally off the internet and expose them only to the game itself until after they completely write their review. It's unlikely though that they would be very good at manipulating the controls though... you know, in order to make a fair assessment of the combat.

Same reason why Jim Sterling's negative review of Zelda BOTW got sooo much more attention than every perfect score. The internet is a dark, sad place. Kind of like space!
