If anyone is depressed or crying over how disappointing Andromeda is when they've finished it, I suggest you get this and Zelda and you'll forget everything about it. Alpha Protocol is like 8-10 hours long but the branching paths are awesome and while it can appear unappealing the characters are rather deep. I really, really want the whole world to give AP a chance and brush aside the bad gunplay.
Yeah, I've been curious about that game, and I'll admit that seeing the actual combat in videos has been a major deterrent.
It's one of my favorites, but still takes a while to get into, even after all the playthroughs. AP does a phenomenal job of immersing you into your role, preparing for your mission...Mass Effect could take some notes from it and slow down the jump into action. It also has no filler, everything you do is part of your goal. As different as it is, it really is closest to Mass Effect...does not have as compelling world, cinematics, big bang moments or half as good gameplay, but makes up with great C&C, strong roleplaying, mission design and humor at times. And best stealth animations of all time.
Considering how much I loved Alpha Protocol despite it's horribly janky and buggy gameplay and how you could easily break the game with two skillsets alone (Pistols and Stealth) I think that Andromeda will do amazingly well then.
I love how after siding with Leland you can tell him about all of the allies you have gotten and recources you can use against him and don't need him anymore. That was so satisfying.
If Andromeda is undone, it'll be because of hate for Bioware/EA, not for the game. The game is great. As with all Bioware games, it has flaws. But aside from some derpy animations and minor gripes, I'm loving the game. I don't get the fixation on small flaws.
This.
If bioware had released the witcher 3 the internet right now would be full of videos of
ZOMG no character creator at all Voice actor is astrocious geralt sounds almost emotionless (hes supposed to) Horse constantly gets stuck cancelling pre-order Combat is shit its more like geralt does ballet
But it isn't made by BioWare so was judged on the gaming experience as a whole and justifiably loved by most and even those who don't like the style acknowledge its a good game.
This is so true. I just hope if Andromeda is a really good game, it is not undone because of the shit storm thats been caused because of some stupid issues.
I have, I was just pointing out that own argument was working against his point.
Not really. Geralt is bugged there and you are saying mechanics look great. Grass looks like straws planted in dirt. And while Witcher 3 is an amazing game, that clip does not show it. So you just proved his point that people will accept it as it is because its not made by bioware.

Good aspect we do not see the same plants such as the Milky Way.

WORST GAME EVAR, MAN
No one hates the latest Dragon Age game like DA fans. Bonus: Now with non-fans hating Dragon Age!
Alpha Protocol had real variation in responses from utter bastard to suave to action hero, not seeing anything like that variation in ME:A, oh and for some reason the flesh textures in ME:A are awful, the life in the faces compared to even Witch 2 is, well bad tbh. However I am enjoying myself, the VA is good, but I worry about replayability, the lack of real differences between the personality types worries me, no chance of a orginal trilogy paragon/renegade playthrough, or a Tyranny style Chorus/Disfavoured runs.

Funny thing about Alpha Protocol is that its combat - while by no means good - is significantly better than ME1. It just had the bad luck to come out after ME2.

Oh, no, no, nononono. Don't you dare say that. I had so much fun with Throwing people with biotics and who doesn't find it satisfying when you hit bullseye with a sniper to see the Geth do a somersault from the impact? Combat is janky in ME1 but it was much better mechanically than that horseshit in AP.

AP had some satisfying skills too (cued pistol shot ftw) and it had much less of the truly annoying stuff in ME1; like getting mobbed by a bunch of drones on Lunar or that absurd difficulty spike of the Krogan merc you fight after rescuing Liara.

It also came out about a year before DA2, which probably led to some of the disappointment about how Varric and Cassandra's interogation scenes were handled compared to Mike and Leland's

That would be a weird complaint. One is an in medias res storytelling and the other is just a vague sequel-bait that takes place in a different time and supposedly after the events of the story. That said, the whole interrogation angle in DA2 was a clear sign that Gaider and co were winging the story to some extent because you can't do that and then top it off with a cliffhanger. If you have a framed narrative your either reveal the new conflict at the end or you catch up to the events before the story is over. It seemed completely tacked on and done for the sake of artifical intrigue, but I liked that Varric would exaggerate sometimes.

The gameplay in AP is good. It is not a shooter. If you try and play it as a shooter you will have a bad time. Play it stealth and pistol and the game and its mechanics are great. The game is an RPG not a shooter. Your accuracy is based on skill points not your ability to point the sights on an enemy.
Edit: Also very glad to see I inspired people to go back and play AP! One of my fav games ever. Was so sad about how much critics and gamers craped all over it.
Actually, the gameplay mechanics and design were just half-baked up to the point almost zero thought was put into it making every gameplay choice punish you for the path you want to take.
Leveling up assault rifles: "You learn D-rated auto-aim at max level."
Pistol's "chain shot" is next to impossible for maxing out "critical hit shots" because of "Orange cursor always blends into gamma yellow filter."
Marburg's villa is borderline unpassable if you did not bother learning martial arts skills.
Want to fight SIE? you're forced into doing shoot-outs, and can't fight her hand-to-hand.
Wanting to "ghost" missions using stealth? "Fuck you. We'll dump vehicle bosses on you that requires rocket launchers on a few of them. BTW, we'll have plot-dictated firefights when we fucking feel like it."

I use to hate fighting Krogan on Insanity in ME1 until I realized a really fun method of getting rid of them: Get them off the ground and push them up towards the sky with biotics and follow with either a shotgun blast followed by sniper fire or just use the sniper; the impact causes them to float higher and higher until they just keep floating up and die; I know their dead when I get XP and credits.
Granted this doesn't work when you have a ceiling over your head, so I performed this trick in two places where it can work since there was an open sky: Virmire and the Citadel. At the final encounter before you enter the council chamber you come to an open area with trenches and missile turrets, than you take a side path that has potential respawning Krogan(it feels like this if you don't progress quick enough) and a few Geth Destroyers .
It felt like I had fought two Geth Destroyers and twice as many Krogan(in that final area alone), granted I fought quite a few aggressive high health shotgun wielding enemies over the course of the final mission in ME1.
If someones asks you how to fire a rifle, tell them to use it on full auto; the assualt rifle is mightiest when fired on full auto, just ask Turians. Sentinels are cool, Tech armor is too. Do you like quotes? If so here's one: "I stay humble." Have you ever heard the tale of Medallian the Spartonian Stallion?
The main complaints towards alpha protocol was it's gameplay, which was complete crap. Don't get me wrong absolutely love the game for it's story, characters, and choices, but gameplay was the real reason why it was never received well.
I really wish that alpha protocol was given another chance though for a sequel. I still linger on hopes that a remake would be done sometime in my life lol.
