Because of what? The fact its gays awkward dialogue? Seems to me it'll appeal much more to people who find that sort of exchange cute or humorous rather than any specific sexuality Because of the fact that many gay people live in areas where it's not easy to be out of the closet (or, even if it is, that doesn't guarantee a lot of single and out-of-the-closet gay people in your area), so dating has more challenges than it has for straight people on average. Take all the challenges of dating while straight and add homophobia, closeted people, identity politics, community discourse, etc as factors and dating is evidently more complicated to the point it makes a lot of gay/bi people very awkward when they start dating. Obviously, that's not all gay/bi people who start dating. There are definitely some suave LGBT people out there, but the factors I listed mean this is an experience that a straight person isn't going to 100% relate to in that very specific context. Of course, this is a different setting where those things aren't really issues, but, for the LGBT consumers, it still is so it's going to be more relatable. The fact it is awkward dialogue from the protagonist no less is what's good. I hope to see awkwardness from a straight Ryder

I'm just explaining why it'd be very relatable for young gay players.

The Gay Panic is real, so is the Gay Disaster but apparently everything has to be serious business, how dare lesbians enjoy something silly!

Okay but the trilogy didn't exactly have stellar oscar award winning romantic scenes so I'm not seeing the point of this..

And because gay people aren't a monolithic group any more than straight people are there's no reason to assume they'll relate to a scene more simply because it has gay people in it, a much wider variety of factors will come into play, such as what they want to see in romance writing, personalities, and so on. So there's no reason to assume it will be more relateable.

Alcoholism, substance abuse, etc is higher among gay men than among straight men on average, so because it's not a monolithic group we can't study that or try to explain that?

Why are we even bringing up their sexuality when it has completely nothing to do with the perceived quality of the script and it's delivery?

I don't see the relevance, that alcoholism, substance abuse, and such have on your ability to tolerate corny romance dialogue.

BioWare perfectly captured the moment of awkwardness. From the dialog straight out of a Tumblr fanfic, to the wooden facial animations created by first year college students, to the fourth wall comment of the Salarian as if nobody else in the scene could hear him.
This is true art, and anybody who says otherwise just needs to get over their latent homophobia.

Meanwhile, I don't think being gay has a correlation on your ability to tolerate crappy sappy lines

Anyways, if you dislike the dialogue that bad, then good for you, since I remember you were wanting to romance her and disappointed you couldn't as Male Ryder. So you're saved, I guess?

How in the hell did this turn into a gay/straight thing? I was just criticizing the trite dialog.

It was fine until Kallo's line. That was far more cringey than the "awkward" flirting.

Wow, that was painful.
I hope it isn't indicative of the quality of the game in general. That scene is poorly written, badly animated, and the acting stilted.

I'm unsure as to what, if there is one, the complaint is about the clip shown. The animation seemed good. I didn't notice any issue with it. As for the dialogue, I actually thought it was really cute and hilarious. So many times in games we are just this suave super-person who has all the NPC's throwing themselves at you. It's nice to see one where the PC gets flustered when flirting. I like it!
Also, Kallo and I are going to be super-friends. This I know.

I think it's really cute? From the scolding way Suvi reacts to Ryder's flirting, I think it's meant to be taken as cringey and awkward flirting, since Ryder is flustered here. It's not "wow the writers really think this is smooth flirting," so much as "some people are just really awkward when they're attracted to a girl." And yes, I've known people who act this way around crushes. Hell, I'm probably one of them, too. Those are probably not trained para military scouts in their mid 20ies, though... I have a number of friends and relatives who are trained military personnel, ranging from Security Forces to Command and others, some in their 20's and 30's. They are still awkward as hell when flirting. Worse than Ryder in this clip, for sure.

If there was anything to cringe about, it'd be some of the flirty dialogue from Mass Effect 2. I actively avoided talking to Jacob most of the time as FemShep because of how accidentally awful it was, I did not like the flirting dialogue with Miranda one bit, Samara's was weird but was saved by being shot down, and the one with Jack just never settled well with me.
