I never understood why consumers put so much stock in other's opinions.
I've never let a review or any type of score dictate if I would play a game or not.
I play the game and form my own opinions. I may end up loving it, hating it, or land somewhere in-between.
Am I the only one in this boat? Because games cost nearly $100 and people don't have infinite resources. For a lot of people, they only make a couple major game purchases each year. For others, they just don't like being ripped off. Why pay full price when you could wait another year (or less) and see if the game isn't marked down?

I've loved every Bioware game I played so far. So this one deserves at least a PT before I form my opinion.

It honestly performing as expected. The animation and bugs alone are enough to tick off some points. It is most definitely a flawed creation.

To be fair to reviewers who say the facial animations in ME1 were better, they ain't wrong. Where was the QA?

I really do not care. Destiny had a rating around a 6 from most outlets and I enjoyed the game for close to 3000 hours. Play the game, enjoy what is given and don't let little things get in the way.

Polygon 7.5 - Review GamesRadar 7.0 - Review Destructoid 6.5 - Review GameSpot: 6.0 - Review Haha... O man... sorry, but I have to say this without any censorship. Any rewiever who gives ME:A such low score is full of SHIT/ cannot be trusted.I had such a blast playing through the trial, the game went instant 9/10 for me after those 10 hrs. As a ME maniac I can even rate it as close to 9,5/10 in its current still unpatched stage.
Animations? those can be fixed post launch. Gameplay and story? Those cannot be fixed or are very difficult to fix post launch. Gameplay is fantastic, story is interesting - those 2 things are excellent outright - and they could have screwed them up ( but they didn't!) And foremost - the characters are great - the trademark of ME series. Vetra is amazing. Drack is badass I want to tag along with. Liam and Cora - bromance/sismance material. PeeBee - cute sex doll. Jaal - Alien Schwarzenegger. And The Nexus is phenomenal. You really feel like you are onboard a massive Citadel-like station among alien allies. Turians, Salarian, Asari - all feel like they are our sibling species, who float on the same boat with us into the unknown. I don't regret a dime from my Super Deluxe Pre-Order and I'm glad I did support the devs - this is Mass Effect I so much wanted from the moment I finished ME1 for the first time. I feel sorry for those who cannot get immersed, because they are so capricious about graphics and animations not being better, than in Crysis 3... it's so infantile to me. Maybe characters written as "cute sex doll" and "alien Schwarzenegger" aren't 9.5 material for all reviewers lol.

At this point I don't even care anymore. I love this Mass Efffect Everyone can have their own opinion, but giving it 6/10... when there are so many other games that are mediocre and get 8 or 9 out of 10... this automatically discredits the rewiever, it doesn't make sense. If animations suck then yes - take a whole 1 point out of the score, but 4 points? Ridiculous.

Heh, I read these reviews, and stuff like: "Many games have done far better facial animations" and it's apparently Witcher 3 that did it (really, many games?). I guess, if I did not that pinnacle of gaming perfection, the Witcher 3, I will be a happy pleb once I finally get to play Andromeda Honestly some direct scene comparisons with the first Mass Effect have it coming up short. That games a decade old. As for there only being the Witcher 3 having better facial animations, facial animations have really jumped up a notch in the last 5 years or so since ME3. I just played Watch Dogs 2 for example and the facial animations/body movement are great. To name but a few recent AAA titles: Batman Arkham Knight, Infamous Second Son, Grand Theft Auto V, Uncharted 4, Metal Gear V, Assassins Creed Syndicate, Far Cry 4, The Last Of Us, oh and Bioware's very own Dragon Age Inquisition. All of them are better animated. The animations aren't the worst ever, they're okay, but they're not up to recent standards.

you are all grasping at straws here. Face it: Game is full of bugs. UNACCEPTABLE FOR 2017 BIOWARE GAME Facial animations suck even more when they should be great than DaI. UNACCEPTABLE FOR 2017 BIOWARE GAME No squadmate control and lack of classes hhurt the experience. UNACCEPTABLE FOR 2017 BIOWARE GAME
Yet you still will buy the game full price. You are hurting bioware at this point. The next product will be poor too. Do not give them bioware/EA the impression nothing is wrong. ALmost everything is wrong

The whole system of notation is weird and really inapropriate, but cannot be ignored when it comes to sales.
So yes less than 8/10 will hurt the game, no matter it's quality. Also keep in mind that using an average note is beyond stupid in term of statistic. Extreme notation have a way higher weight on the average notation than the consensus. A quick way to avoid that would be to ignore the 5% best and worst notation. Another way would be to use median. So currently on Metacritic (28 reviews) : Average : 7,5 Average (-10% reviews) : 7,7 Median : 7,9 Currently Average -10% is not great because there are not many reviews out. Still 7,9 is not great for a AAA game and a ME game but at least it is more accurate.

I don't believe this scores reflect the reality. It's all about money and influence. The game must have problems indeed, but not more than any other AAA recent game. Of course, one could compare it to witcher 3 and find some issues, but fuck that 6.0 scores. No way. Games never have 10 anyways and as pointed before, with each season, scores seems to be even lower than the previous for almost every kind of game, which to me, reflects how bad these reviewers are. They put their standards up to the sky because of some particular experiences as if all games since that MUST be at least that good for them. Besides, who knows how many of those reviews are paid? i'll stick to the real gamers reviews once more and more people play it.

I know this game is not the original trilogy, and I never expected it to be. I wanted it to be it's own game. Why do so many people have such unrealistic standards for video games. One small insignificant thing, and it's one of the many subjects on the internet. "The covering system is different." "The worlds are too large." "Where's Shepard?" "The animation is terrible." "The characters are not like Shepard's squad." It never ends! Why can't they be happy with what they have? Mass Effect is my favorite video game series, and even I don't hold the original trilogy at such high esteem. How is having an expectation of a well polished game with good writing, cohesive story, lovable characters and plenty of customization options from a developer who was cranking out none stop GOTYs considered unrealistic?

They are removing points for poor dialogue / plotting and busy work as well. Some reviewers have called some of the gameplay flat out boring.

I only care about reviews and sales of this game so far as they affect future Bioware games. While I bought MEA (without having played any of the other ME games) in solidarity with Bioware/female game developers/female gamers, I care much more about the future of Dragon Age and what this might mean for them. I have no interest in the new IP yet but I was hoping MEAs scores and sales would be better

It was easy to see Andromeda wouldn't be an top tier game from a long time ago, but I didn't antecipated such a flop. The worst part is that we have no perspective of better things.

Well we can see how the player reviews are soon... There will be the usual '10's' and '0's' within minutes of the player review settings unlocking. I'd treat any review delivered in days rather than weeks with suspicion... Now a player review site that connected a score to having finished the game, that I would respect.

Why are we all treating a 77% metascore as bad? I mean it is not the best game ever but to call it a flop seems very dramatic.

well looks like CDPR is now the king of the hill. Bioware is way way down below, Though I'll enjoy ME:A I just hope CDPR actually makes a Mass Effect like game. I also hope they don't get cocky.
