And big one. 75 metacritic score? That's terrible for a game like Mass Effect. I mean, we are talking about the franchise that still has the highest rated RPG ever made. Yeah, an in hindsight that's ridiculous.

It was easy to see Andromeda wouldn't be an top tier game from a long time ago, but I didn't antecipated such a flop. The worst part is that we have no perspective of better things. A flop? It isn't a flop unless it doesn't sell well. Too early to know how that will turn out.

And big one. 75 metacritic score? That's terrible for a game like Mass Effect. I mean, we are talking about the franchise that still has the highest rated RPG ever made. Yep. New Vegas was made in 1,5 years (!!!) and still got over 80 score and pretty much the only criticism on the game was how buggy it was, yet Q&A was Bethesda's responsibility and not Obsidians, so the devs can be only partially blamed on that. Compare that to ME:A, five goddamn years of development and technical issues aside, the writing is like a bad teenage fanfiction. Inb4 "it's cute and Rydur is supposed to be young and inexperianced (nevermind the fact that they are both actually experianced, just not the the extent Shepard was) so that's why they act like an autistic retard and not like sane normal person in their early 20s". Being renegade or anything close to it is virtually gone if reviews are to be trusted on that matter, so from a dark-ish sope opera that was ME1 we've come to a story for kids where everyone is nice and good always prevails, with sex scenes for adults. I wonder if BioWare perhaps finally managed to nail down their most devout fans' identities? It certainly seems like that if we take /r/masseffect and most people here into consideration. I'd have a hard time finding a young adult novel with writing as bad as in this game. There are people writing fanfiction for free which are of much higher quality than this shit.

I expected below the 80s, but at the same time if I had woke up this morning and saw it did land in the 80s, I wouldn't have been surprised either. The fact that it's sitting at a 75 is....concerning. The reputation of all of Bioware's franchises is ruined at this point. KotoR, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. If they don't find success with their new IP, then Bioware has nothing left at that point, except for broken trust, and franchises they've ruined. And to be honest, I have no faith in their new IP. Sounds like it's an Online game like Destiny and The Division. That's probably going to be a death sentence for them if they try and break into the MMO scene, when so many other devs have failed.

I'm still of the wait and see school. The previews and reviews have raised a number of issues, neither of which are deal breakers for me. So far, the game seems to be exactly what I'm looking for these days. At worse, I think I'll find the game enjoyable.

I never understood why consumers put so much stock in other's opinions.
I've never let a review or any type of score dictate if I would play a game or not.
I play the game and form my own opinions. I may end up loving it, hating it, or land somewhere in-between.
Am I the only one in this boat? Because games cost nearly $100 and people don't have infinite resources. For a lot of people, they only make a couple major game purchases each year. For others, they just don't like being ripped off. Why pay full price when you could wait another year (or less) and see if the game isn't marked down? It's all subjective, though. Another's opinion about a game can't possibly determine if one will feel"ripped off". One wouldn't be able to experience said feeling, unless they actually played the game in the first place. We all know that gaming can be an expensive hobby to pursue. I was not referring to anything related to cost. For the sake of my point, pretend that the game is free. There are many people that would still forego playing it because they let themselves be influenced by the opinions of others.

I'm so happy with most reviews! See Bioware this is what you get for hurting me so bad destroying the Dragon Age Franchise! I really hope they get shut down, go broken and never do games again. Then perhaps some of them find jobs in marvelous companies like Obsidian, people that make real RPG and not these shit thing bioware does. Unfortunately shit sells well and I'm 99% sure this game will make lots of money... but a girl can dream. Is there any thing intelligently critical in this post? And why are listed as a boy then say a girl can dream? Or are you as strange/mentally f#$%ed up as your post?

Real mature. Besides it was mostly technical issues and not the game play that brought the score down Most of the negative reviews also criticize the writing, characters and setting. Actually the writing has gotten mixed reviews. Mixed does not equal negative. It is the technical aspects that have brought the scores down.

But the question of money is extremely important here and fantasizing about games being free is entirely beside the point.
I'll give you an example: in my country, a PS4 copy of MAI (standard edition) costs about 230-270, where an average monthly salary is 1500-2000. Do you see now why reviews are important? Few people will decide to pay that kind of money for a product that gets seriously mixed reviews. And it's not even about mediocre writing/characters, etc., it's first and foremost about technical issues, which I see as really jarring in an AAA title. And that's not a subjective problem.
So, while reviews are not be all/end all, I find them useful to gauge whether I should make that kind of investment.

There are many people that would still forego playing it because they let themselves be influenced by the opinions of others. Right. But if you bounce around, you'll generally see a pattern. If fans and critics are saying game x isn't that great, it's a safer gamble to wait until the inevitable price drop and then give it a go. Most people aren't necessarily writing the game off entirely when they look at reviews but are gathering opinions on whether they want to invest full price to play the game early or wait and get it significantly cheaper. Twitch is another factor nowadays too. If reviews aren't great, I can go into twitch screams and see the game for myself. If it happens to be a streamer whose opinion I trust, I'll be more inclined to take their word for it and maybe try the game myself when it's $20-30. Judging for themselves is costly. Consider only the current popular games right now. Final Fantasy XV Horizon Zero Dawn Mass Effect: Andromeda Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Dawn of War 3 That is five games dating between November to April; one of which requires buying a brand new console. Many gamers simply cannot afford to buy everything at full price. So reviews help determine which games may be worth their time.

Also, reviews help me determine if I'll buy the game full price, discounted, or not at all. This is a Bioware game so I had it preordered from the beginning. However, there have been countless games that I've bought when they've gone on sale because it wasn't worth the full $80 CDN. Star Wars game is one that comes to mind because I was going to buy that game full price. I read the reviews, waited then bought the deluxe version for $35 CDN a year after release.

Again, Metacritic literally says "Generally favorable reviews" and you guys are acting like it's horrible. And if you look at the polls on this very forum fans seem to have very much enjoyed their time with the game so far. Word of mouth is important, if the fans like it and you are a Mass Effect fan I'm sure you'll like the game just fine.
The sky is not falling, the game is rated what it is because of its technical issues which can easily be fixed with a patch or two. Please stop with the hysteria.

Slighly below 80 is rather good or not that bad for most games. But Andromeda is not like most games. It come on a franchise who always had very good reviews. For some players it was a second chance. For editor it was a new start. They had an outstanding 5 years to make a masterpiece.
So yes it could be a good game anyway, except good is not enough. In these conditions, professional reviewers opinion on the game, even it could be not that bad, create a disapointment feeling.

Well this is arguably the worst rated BioWare game and it was suppose to be their redemption/new slate. This doesn't bode well. Also it's not just the tech issues, it's plot, writing, characters, lack of customization, and ending.

Reviewers completely trashed Iron Fist, and I enjoyed it fine when I watched it.
There's no better reviewer than yourself. If you don't like what you've seen so far, don't buy the game. If you do, buy it. It really is that simple.
