I tend to think really gratuitous sex scenes in video games are a little uncomfortable to watch, mostly due to the Uncanny Valley factor. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see a little on-screen action. Give my imagination something to work with!

I liked Dorian's post-sex scene. It seemed realistic and natural that two people who just had sex would hang around in the nude and have a conversation about the sex they just had. In general, I prefer fade to black -- I can use my imagination and it's better for roleplay -- so DAI was perfect for me in that regard. I have no idea what this conversation is about, but so far I've overheard "they're just really angry termites" and "fire-breathing pterodactyls!" and whatever game they're talking about I want to play it 😄 If it weren't for the fire-breathing pterodactyls, I'd have guessed the children from DAA for the angry termites. Way worse than the ghasts in Mark of the Assassin. |

Eh, that isn't far off for DAO. In DAO, you see that the Archdemon is a dragon in those visions, but depending on the order in which you do things, you might not encounter "Andraste"-dragon, the first major dragon fight, for a good long while. DAA and DA2 are a tad better, but not by much. I can see the mentality if you pick up the game (DAO) thinking that you're going to encounter dragons, and that they will be a part of the plot, as in Skyrim.
Even then, the actual title of the game is misleading, and I don't believe that the reason for the name is said anywhere in DAO, outside of perhaps some random codex a person stumbles upon that might be missed altogether or simply not read. It wasn't until DAI where we got some serious dragon action.

The Codex for the Thedas Calendar explains why the current century is called the Dragon Age. Did you not even read what I wrote? ... outside of perhaps some random codex a person stumbles upon that might be missed altogether or simply not read. Sure, there is a TON of information in the codex, but the average player isn't going to be reading it. The same type of player to pick up a game titled "Dragon Age," think that there are a bunch of dragons in it that you fight, possibly as a plot component, and be disappointed and/or surprised when that doesn't occur. They actually had a baked-in path to telling us in the game itself, even if it is limited to a particular origin. Since most people play humans, anyway, they could very well have had that information given out as part of the origin conversation you can have with Mother Mallol or in the educational bit with the tutor Aldous, or even worked it in some way with Brother Genitivi for all players. My point is that someone being surprised at there being no (few) dragons in Dragon Age isn't actually a huge deal, and actually makes sense when you consider all factors that would lead a person to think that way. |
