As we reach the final few days of December, here is a short thread of where my writing found itself in 2020:



First, adventures in Thedas! Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights came out in March from @torbooks. This was close to the time lockdown started so the whole thing is a bit surreal! I have two stories in here - the Grey Warden tale, "Hunger," and Tevinter-set "The Streets of Minrathous."



My poems "imagine you have wings" and "winged pair" appear in @antilangmag no. 7. "imagine you have wings" is a poem I've returned to a few times, hoping to find it a home. I'm so happy it found a place this year. Maybe it just needed its partner antilang.ca/antilang7/

Two flash pieces found a place in deathcap from @coveneditions. The narrator of "the swan" contemplates a wistful connection to the bird. In "on eggshells," a scoundrel wants to become a better person for the love of a witch. Both are here: www.coveneditions.com/briannebattye-1020

Back in Thedas, my flash fiction piece "The Next One" features a Grey Warden on his Calling and the dwarven woman he meets at the end. She may be familiar if you've read Tevinter Nights (but it should work without reading it too!) www.ea.com/games/dragon-age/news/the-next-one



My poem "fresh daylight" appears in the Systems themed issue of Lida Literary and explores the disorienting sense of altered routine and what we cling to in response. I wrote it after a walk during the first official lockdown. www.lidaliterary.com/issue02/

Finally, there are many work words that people aren't allowed to see yet. And many personal-project that I hope may find a home one day.

Positive thing about working at BioWare: lovely team mates. Negative thing about working at BioWare: lovely team mates' sense of humor on rare occasions. Sometimes you see things or hear things you can not unsee or unhear no matter how hard you try.
