Bioware Botched the Angara

Wait, really? Another accents thread? I'll just copy and paste relevant parts of my response from the last one:

Now then, different accents happen in sci-fi all the time, obviously because they get different actors who have different accents, yet are perfectly capable of acting the role as required. See: Babylon 5, Star Trek, pretty much every major sci-fi from which Mass Effect has drawn its influence. You can safely assume they have different regions/dialects or whatever as needed, without it needing to be explicitly stated.

And another point to consider- some species have thus far been voiced by one actor in their entirety. While I love Mark Meer, does that mean that we'd need to "explain" the casting of anyone else as a Hanar, vorcha or volus? Actually I'm pretty sure I've heard different volus VOs already...

Earth accents... sure.  

You're not hearing the aliens speak directly. They're all using a universal translator. For all you know, Angarans actually speak in clicks and whistles.

Consistency helps suspension of disbelief.

Now if they had screwed up the modulation for one character or another, then yeah that'd be a bug/oversight whatever. But accents don't matter.

That's the funny thing, besides minor variation in facial structure, skin color, and size, there is so little diversity in humans. We all have the same number of parts, in the same places. Our diversity as a species is low, and race is a construct.

What's the explanation? I must have missed it.

I get what you are saying yet a good voice actor should be able to speak any accent, not just their native one.

That a Bioware professional voice actor might actually be good at his/her job.  Yep you are right

1. There are literally hundreds of thousands of different accents for English alone, some of which would require a person to basically re-write the way their brains processes certain phonemes in order to not come across as overly broad/stereotypical/offensive.

2. There are BW regulars who are among some of the most talented artists in their fields, so this "sick burn" on behalf of them, and other hard working VAs, ranges from being ridiculous to uninformed to just mean.

3. Ultimately, knowing that the Angara are spread out across the Heleus cluster, I would find it weirder if they all had the same accent. Accents are highly variable even in relatively small geographic areas; it would stretch credulity if a race could maintain consistency across solar systems.

For the first 2 lets just agree to disagree.

For the 3rd one, you are right I do NOT have a problem with them having different accents among there own race.  However I do find it a bit strange, that they would have sliglty sounding Southern or Irish accents when speaking English.

Personaly I think this is a very minor issue, I was just commenting on voice acting in general, and any time I can take a swipe at the 'new' Bioware I will

I think the voice acting is a problem for the Angara, but more because how it doesn't contribute to their supposed hyper emotional sensitivity
