I'm impressed you made it through that many playthroughs before getting fatigued. I had to temporarily abandon my third PT because I was sick to death of all the wandering. Now I'm doing my second Origins run instead, and that actually feels even more tedious. (Though at least I'm making some different decisions, because I'm playing as a total jerk.) I should probably go try to finish Witcher 3 instead, but I'd miss the DA characters so I haven't done that. Witcher 3 had my attention for a while and I was really surprised that I liked it as much as I did. Then I ran into a game breaking bug, couldn't progress the story anymore and when I restarted the game I lost interest 😔. Uh oh. Something a cheat code can't help with, I suppose? I hope I don't run into that, as I'd like to actually find Ciri at some point. I think I would like that game better if Geralt had a plucky (or surly, I guess) band of followers like we get with DA. It feels kind of lonely to play otherwise.

Oh yeah, I remember Weekes saying that he left aspects of the relationship open to player interpretation. The thirty comment: Oh, that is painful on a completionist playthrough. Even a "explore most areas and do a bunch of side quests & crafting" playthrough easily means north of 100 hours. Patience indeed! It's too bad that the romance content is unevenly distributed, especially with some of the romances having less content than others. I wonder if the Solas romance was short shrifted because it was added so late in development? Although, that wouldn't explain why Cullen's romance path was so large. Or maybe Cullen just has more haven/skyhold dialogue in general because ... the devs wanted to give the advisors a little extra to make up for them not being part of party banter? Or because Cullen gets extra dialogue during recruit/conscript-mages playthroughs because of all the bits related to Samson (Cullen's extra quest)? I have noticed that most of recruitable companions seem to fade out of sight once their quests are done. Each of the companions have interesting stories and it feels like there is a sizable chunk of text for each of them but against a game that takes 100+ hours to complete, the companion's stories feel minor. It feels like an issue of mismatched scale. I don't know for sure but I always imagined that followers (and advisors?) word count was more or less similar (along the lines to what ME had) and their writers were choosing where to keep the bulk of the content. So some of the characters would have quite a bit of romantic content (like Cullen, since he doesn't have much going on out of Skyhold and his role in the main quest line is limited and he does not have comments about side quests and locations), whilst the followers would have it spread across different quest etc. For instance Solas has quite a lot to say in different locations and parts of main quest so maybe that's where the bulk of his word count went? I know that there were levels where the word count was independent from the character word count but I am not sure how it worked out at the end. Cullen is definitely the special cookie here. His romance content is unparalleled (it seems like it's his primary role in dai?).

Hey, there you are! wb! aaaaand... holidays are better than attending BSN's closing. any day. They are definitely more fun that's for sure I wanted to pop in to the thread one last time, since I loved that place so much. It feels so weird to let it go without a word, but the "door was closed" when I came so it's good that you had the last comment. Seems fitting.

It feels kind of lonely to play otherwise. I play on Xbox so cheat codes don't help me 😕 But it was a pretty common one and I think they fixed it. It was when you lost some fist fight, something went wrong and every time I tried to get into the room (I think throne room) to get on with the story, the game would just give me a never ending loading screen.

Yeah I've temporarily abandoned my current playthrough because I'm super bored again with it. Even if I don't finish it I'll just fill in all the stuff in the Keep since this is supposed to be my canon. Apparently the only game I can play 2700 times in a row and not get bored is Dragon's Dogma. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've played DA:I so many times (I've done all romances, some more than once ) I always tell myself I'll play it differently next time, like I never got the drunk Cassandra scene or punched Solas. Yet 99% of the time I'll side with the Templars (because honestly, it's just less work than to go with the Mages ) and get the Grey Wardens (you know, just in case). I usually don't even enter Emerald Graves, Forbidden Oasis, Hissing Wastes or Emprise du Lion. I skip the Deeproads DLC and the JoH and go straight to Trespasser. I have this path in my mind and every Inquisitor I play goes that path, except when i side with Mages then I have to go to Emerald Graves. My very first Inquisitor was about 90h, my second was already around 60h and now my playthroughs are usually about 40h. I don't explore anymore, I just get the camps, do quests that are fun, short or important then move on. First Val Royeaux trip is the worst, it reminds me of Mass Effect and when you get to Citadel the first time, because of all the little Codex Entries that are flying around there and after that I hate going to Western Approach and Exalted Plains. There, I think it's official that I need a new game that can hold my attention longer than 5 minutes .... *Google Alert* "Might Mass Effect Andromeda be delayed for release on Xbox Scorpio?" i.E. I should probably go try to finish Witcher 3 instead, but I'd miss the DA characters so I haven't done that. That's pretty much where I am. I started my third PT of DA:I, but it was slow going and couldn't keep my interest. Of course... now that I want to progress for fanfic purposes, my PC died. Before that I was mostly playing TW3... and now I'm in withdrawals because I can't replace my desktop right away. So instead, el husbando and I playing Neverwinter Nights MMO on our laptops. LOL It's actually pretty fun so far!

Very good point. aaaaand... I'll go there and say that the devs *thinking* they know what the fans want can also be troublesome. And then you get devs stereotyping Cullen fans as all straight squeeing fangirls (complete with demonstrations!) and brushing aside the character's more problematic traits (while simultaneously embracing flimsily evidenced race gating), and harlequin-romance-esque shirtless Cullen promos. Cullen was always going to be race gated. The evidence is pretty clear, I think, in the Broken Circle quest. As for also being gender gated, well, he didn't have the same interaction with a male mage that there could be with a female mage. I guess you could consider that flimsy. So flimsy I'd call it merely circumstantial and certainly neither clear nor definitive. But those are battles from a bygone era.

I'm choosing not to re-enter that battle because it's caused me so much grief already, especially since there's absolutely nothing in DAI to support it on Cullen's part, and a lot that makes it extremely puzzling (especially since they redesigned female dwarves to look like short humans...sometimes known as hobbits...rather than dwarves.) Of course, there's been an apparent long term trend of treating dwarf fans almost as deviants, sigh...

I played W3 and enjoyed it at first. But I got aggravated with several things about 20 or 25 hours in, I think, and haven't had been able to bring myself to try to finish even one PT. I've mostly been playing Borderlands 1 instead with a friend because there hasn't been a new MMO we wanted to play together. I'm still reluctant to return to WoW, both of us burned out on SWtOR, and LotRO lost our interest pretty quickly.) Nothing new has come out that would tempt me to put up with all the grief of an MMO, honestly, though I'm watching Star Citizen...

Nothing says Fashionista of Ferelden like decorating your mage hat with a row of giant pointy teeth from some terrifying beast. Man, I'd honestly forgotten how horrible the DA:O hats were. The one mod I always had to have when I replayed DA:O was hide helmets. I know that mod well. I had to hunt it down and disable it so I could take those lovely screenshots.

His romance content is unparalleled (it seems like it's his primary role in dai?). Good points here. I wonder if Josephine's romance budget feels similar to Cullen's given that she has the same limitations as Cullen as an advisor. I haven't played her romance yet but I have been tempted. My first inquisitor almost romanced her despite the fact that I created my first inquisitor specifically to romance Cullen.

Holiday 2017 FmL You have your playthroughts down to 40hrs? *phhewwww* After abandoning a few initial inquisitors 2 to 12 hours into the game, my first inquisitor took f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to make it to the end credits and that was without any of the DLCs. 110 hrs, and that was with the mages, doing Cullen's long Samson sidequest, a good bit of crafting, exploration of side areas, and a lot of wandering around lost and confused while trying to figure out the easiest way to build up 30 power. My second inquisitor is a not-yet-finish completionist game. My third inquisitor appears to be moving through the game a little quicker because I know where things are, but I want to do fast story-based runs through the game so I can try out all of the romances. 40hrs for the main game plus Trespasser isn't bad. I just need to stop myself from pickup up all the shiny baubles and getting sidetracked for hours.

I guess we can speculate until we're blue in the face :\ but in truth we'll never really know why the writers and other devs make the choices they make. We can only be grateful for the things we like and hope for the things we want.

They said they made sure the advisors got extra content since they weren't in the field with you, but even they feel unbalanced to me at times. The banter in the field fills in a lot for companions, but a lot depends on who you have in a party (and no one's going to play enough times for every combination of companions...) And, frankly, those banters tend to trigger just as combat starts and I miss a lot. A-ha!!! So that answers a question I mused about in a post just above this one. Yeah, a Cullen-centered playthrough (Cullen romance + Samson side quest) makes the game feel very biased toward the advisors. My Cullenmance inquisitors are not complaining one bit but I can understand the frustration that occurs when doing other romances. Oh, those banters. They always trigger at the wrong time for me. The party will go silent for a while and then right when I run towards an enemy, banter will trigger but it is too late because I've already initiated combat.

As far as banter triggering at odd times (or not at all) I suspect PC users here probably already know about the banter trigger that uses the cheat engine? I have been using it since I discovered its existence. Poor computer Gaming PCs should know better than to just die like that. We need them What fanfic are you writing? :R2's ears perk up and she eagerly reaches for her wallet full of pictures of her word children: I just finished a long fic about Cullen x Hawke, and my first follow up short story about them took place during DA:I . . . and unexpectedly ended up being about Malika Cadash and Varric. So I'm writing a second story about Malika and Varric right now for the BSN wake prompt. Unfortunately, I never got very far with my dwarf IQ PT. So I'm now itching to play again at long last, but can't! Cullen/Hawke sounds interesting. Do you have it posted online, or is it just something you do for yourself? A student recommended that game to me just yesterday. So of course, I just went and bought Assassin's Creed Syndicate instead. (Been waiting for it to go on sale and it did.) I really should check out Dragon's Dogma too until I am ready to return to my little dwarf Quizzy. *chants softly* Do it, do it, do it.... I'm checking out some reviews of the PC version on YouTube to see if it's my kind of thing, but it does sound interesting

The story is like, okay, whatever lol But the leveling, the classes, the armor/clothes, the climbing onto monsters, and the best part, swapping pawns with Steam friends You should check out the DD:DA thread here. It's a small group of people (me included) who are bizarrely obsessed with a mediocre game LOL

Since she hasn't answered, I'll butt in ... I think the Cullen x Hawke story was Fool's Errand, and the sequel that veered into Malika and Varric was The Trouble with Hawke. I wasn't really that into Hawke, but that story kind of sold me on the ship.

Did I hear people talking about Cullen x Hawke?! (full disclosure: Cullen x Hawke has been my main reason for being in DA fandom since shortly after DA2 came out.) Questionable fighting technique or awesome dance moves? Accompanying Hawke to places where Cullen sticks out like a sore thumb. The romance Varric was required to cover up. Caption This Image:
