The Old Guard (Ye Olde Cullen Thread v4.0 + gen discussion)

Btw, since this isn't entirely a Cullen-centric thread (though mostly it IS about him 😍) I'm just curious, anyone else plays Pathfinder Kingmaker here?

I know the hype is all about the Dreadwolf Rising (and I'm also in the bandwagon on this one) but the game wont be out in a year+ from now. So might as well play another game while waiting 😃

Pathfinder pretty much feels like an elaborate version of BG game. I love the story (damn, that backstabbing effort in tutorial 😆 omg) and interesting pixel friends and LI. But the timer thing can be a killer. Thank Lord for mods on that one 😆

I haven't heard anything about it. But BG-like sounds intriguing. I just skimmed the first 30 seconds of a review that said something like "it isn't for everyone." But yeah, will need some things to tide us over.

They were also right about it not being for everyone LoL, I give them that.

After some hours into the game, lets just say..
- The game mechanics sticks to the PnP principles more than NWN,
- Races from tallest to shortest : HOrc, Elf, Helf, Human/Aasimar, Dwarf, Halfling, Gnome.
- Bag of Holding! Damn important this one since there is a weight limit how much you can carry (overall, the weight is carried by the whole group, but upon reaching an outpost, it's dumped into the main character)
- Exploring the map like the Heroes of Might n Magic game,
- When entering an area, exploring and interacting the environment feels like BG,
- Some adventure you resolve like writing a story book and how you can resolve it depends on your stats (and companion's). It's pretty cute, though.
- You can get fatigue from travelling so you need to pitch camp every now and then,
- Party banters usually happens here aside from them commenting your decision when questing
- There is a timer in your quest (thank the Lord for Modders and Cheats. This is my main beef with the game),
- Be VERY careful of your choices LoL, they aint kidding with this one, at least to me it feels that way (I'm somewhat happy-not happy I spoilered my way through the game 😆 but being obsessed with 'perfect run' I guess I'm kinda glad I did. Especially since the dude I'm aftering is somewhat tied to the main quest)
- Interesting characters so far. Yes there is an alignment system, but I like that the CE pixel friend here is a HOrc who loves to have fun, doesn't plan to backstab you and a follower of a non-evil deity.
- There is a CE version of Deekin here 😆 nontheless, he's loyal to you.

wait wait wait, THE Deekin???  That might be worth it right there.  

but, ugh, weight limits?!? Hmm. Sounds a bit frustrating, but then, I'm embarrassed to say that downloading BG for iPad a couple years back also annoyed me. I may have been ruined for these kinds of games. Hmmm. 

That's definitely Solas's voice actor. It's almost one of the lines from Trespasser, only... not quite.

In Pathfinder, he's called 'Nok Nok', follower of an evil deity of Lamashtu. But still, he's loyal 😆

Have to admit it was kinda jarring switching from DAI to this game. And there is that feeling of BG but not quite.

I'm definitely hoping inquisitor does not return since none of mine are canon xD I don't even know which one I'll import. I'm afraid if I import the Bull romance there'll just be some dumb crude sex joke in the middle of a serious scene.

Not thrilled about Solas being so important, but if I confront him, I want to confront him with a brand new character.

I didn't even realize that WAS the idol until someone pointed it out. That's super cool!!!

Well, I don't know. I definitely hope the nuance and shades of gray remain written into Solas' character. His straightness is the only thing keeping him from being my absolute favorite character in all of Dragon Age. He is someone who genuinely approves of you helping the helpless, yet in the end we learn that he is willing to kill everyone to put his plans into motion. His empathy for the helpless isn't feigned. But he is so damned committed to his cause, and I also believe he sees mortals as "lesser." Again, doesn't mean he can't and doesn't empathise with them. But it's a bit like someone who shudders at the thought of the meat industry yet closes their eyes, takes a deep breath, and eats that delicious bacon. it's horrible, they know. But the bacon is so good, so, eh. 

IF Solas is using the idol, that's a concern, because it means he could become corrupted with red lyrium?! Which would turn him into full throttle Evil Dude. Which I would be downright disappointed with.

I guess it's the mural thingy that sparks my imagination into thinking that Solas might plan to use the idol.

If or when he does it, I'm still hoping he won't be Corypheus 2.0 Evanuris Edition.

I mean pleaseeeee no. After getting to know him for 1 entire game, it'd be a waste if he ends up only as a cookie cutter villain.

Agree. He’s far more interesting with his shades of gray, but then... if he went full evil through a red lyrium infection, then they’d be setting us up to cure and save him in a more straight forward way.
