Seriously, who wrote the ending to this quest? You find out he didn't kill the Chief but it's basically a "renegade" choice to exile him anyway. Did a first year intern sealed in a bubble write this? Is the law in Canuckistan like that? "Oh, I tried to kill you but failed...so no jail for me".

I mean, attempted murder is totally a thing since that's pretty much your justification for exiling him. I didn't find the reaction to be too out of line once I made the choice- what happens if you exonerate him?

I didn't find the reaction to be too out of line once I made the choice- what happens if you exonerate him? Yes, you can exile him anyway, but the game makes it clear that is the "evil" choice with Tann's comments about ruling with our hearts and "hope my conscience allows me sleep as easily as yours appears to". Or whatever it was he said. It's obvious they tried and failed hard to do with this quest. They've tried to make every single choice morally ambiguous in an attempt at depth. That's why they force binary choice on you when an obvious third possibility exists or they poison what should be an obvious "correct" choice by somehow adding a severe negative consequence to it.

He's turian, though. It's entirely possible that other species don't recognize attempted murder the way humans do (and maybe not all human societies do, either, I don't know). I played this quest during the trial and will soon be encountering this scene again in the current PT since I restarted...but I don't think he actually managed to hit the victim. All you have is the audio recording of him apologizing for killing his friend, but if he didn't even manage to injure him...is it even attempted murder anymore? More like...conspiracy to commit murder? (Or something like that?)
I kind of like this quest, honestly.

It's attempted murder. He actually shot at the guy. That he missed does not take away from the fact that he tried to commit murder. Fact is, if the guy can take a shot at his friend is he safe around people he likes less?

I'm just trying to think of an in-universe explanation for the conclusion of the quest, which is what I thought you wanted. There is no reason to be nasty.

Eh, I let him go because it reflects the situation that his attempt to frag his lieutenant was due to the man leading them on a suicide charge. Also, I'm hoping to reincorporate the Exiles. Community service given the situation seemed fair.
We need everyone we can get and can't just exile them willy nilly.

Fact is, if the guy can take a shot at his friend is he safe around people he likes less? Fair enough, but do the alien species see it the same way? I mean, evidently if you exile him anyway, you don't get a positive reaction from others, so what could be the in-universe explanation for that? I thought that an in-universe explanation was what the OP wanted, but apparently not.

Like I said, there's extenuating circumstances. The victim was about to lead them on a suicide charge.

Yeah, I thought I was exiling him for attempted murder and then lying to authorities about it, but then it comes on the news announcement that he was exiled for the murder. So I guess according to the game I framed him because it would look good for Tann and he kinda deserved it anyway. Ok game.

Just the latest in a long line of rpg murder quests, where no actual detective work is required on the players behalf. The whole thing was just scanning. 'member KOTOR when you had to question both suspects and actually work out the truth yourself.

I think it was pretty obvious that exiling him was just to save face for the director and the Initiative.
And I don't swing that way. I don't think attempted murder is an offense worthy of exile anyway. Or anything really.

So if somebody walked up to you, shot you, missed and was then tackled by somebody else, you would see them go free?

How does it correlate with actual choices though? All people with severe crimes could simply be frozen back until everything setlles down. Everyone is supposed to be pay in credits, but where all these credits come from? Is anyone on Nexus gets paid in credits? Pays taxes? Do they just print it out of thin air or what?

How does it correlate with actual choices though? All people with severe crimes could simply be frozen back until everything setlles down. They could have expanded on it quite a bit but I did get the impression the issue was never whether he was guilty or not but the symbolism of being "The First Murderer" and the fact this is a frontier justice sort of thing. Albeit, part of the problem is the Nexus doesn't really feel like the Frontier. It feels more like someone took a chunk of New York and put it in the middle of the Wild West.

I don't own the game. Curious why, if kadara is livable, the AI don't just take it over and settle everyone there.
