Tittle basically.

Overall I really like Scott and Sarah Ryder. There are a few things I don't like about the characters but those were things I didn't like about Shepard in later games either so I'm not surprised, but other than that they have some great character qualities to them.

those were things I didn't like about Shepard in later games either What are these things? Just some of the assumptions Bioware made about how the player would play their character. For example I'm not a fan of it being canon that our protagonist swears and drinks rather than that personalization being left up to the player.

I'm enjoying Scott. In fact I'll admit, with great reluctance, that he's a much more fun protagonist to play as compared to Shepard.

I'm not done with the game yet but so far, I love my Ryder! I adore that she can be awkward, unsure and be consistently interested in science.

He's a dork and a wimp, but still he's somehow growing on me. Probably thanks to VA, Taylorson did his job well there.

A little 'meh' to me. I don't think the new (well, not new, but copied from DA...) dialogue system is very great so far, it's quite limited. Ryder tries to be funny too often and fails at it. So far I find him too bland, but it's not the VAs fault, who's doing a decent job I think. Except that I hear Nathan Drake whenever he opens the mouth I might change my opinion the more I progress, but for now I'm not that impressed. Let's see if he grows on me.

No. It was jarring playing Ryder as a professional or logical character, who could actually be sensible and leader like, only for them to speak via auto-dialogue and sound like a complete twat, especially in the group meeting scenes. If there was going to be so much auto-dialogue, it would've been so much more palatable to me if they had gone with DAII's dominant tone approach, that way, Ryder could've actually sounded like the character I try to play them as.

DAII's dominant tone approach Unfortunately this part of DAII was quite critized, so they are never returning to it again.

DAII's dominant tone approach Unfortunately this part of DAII was quite critized, so they are never returning to it again. It's a shame, seeing as how it improves auto-dialogue, another heavily criticized feature that's unfortunately overwhelming in this game, a lot.

I like Sara so far. A refreshingly average person thrust into space and tasked with too much responsibility. I'm a fan.

Since I haven't played the game that far, can you tell me what the differences are between Scotts and Saras personality?

Since I haven't played the game that far, can you tell me what the differences are between Scotts and Saras personality? I've only just started as Sara, and many lines are the same, but the VA makes the difference. Sara's voice sounds more emotional, especially when she's under stress like getting ambushed. Scott sounds calmer and more laid back, and the dry humor works well with him.

Yeah I do, he kind of has a bit a Chris Pratt-ish sensibility, but what I AM hoping is that we can differentiate if Ryder are the main characters of the next games.
Would love to see how the Ryder could develop.

I like them. It's a different perspective that gets well represented in the writing, dialogue and voice acting. I'd rather have a very different character that's unexperienced instead of a Shepard clone who can't deliver.

Ryder is a great protagonist. Less wooden than the Inquisitor, more reasonable and relatable than Shepard, not as schizophrenic as Hawke.
I particularly like that the lines from the various tones sound like they could come from the same person. A Casual Ryder can drop a Professional line without it feeling out of place, or vice versa. Couldn't say that of Shepard or Hawke all the time.

I like him a lot, actually. I pick the casual responses and he gives me hard Sarcastic Hawke vibes, which is always good. I hope we continue with Ryder and shuffle the squad/crew like in the previous trilogy just to keep things fresh.
