Because the genuine female players have people creep on them as soon as they make their voice heard. Ive got plenty of grills on my friends list, most of which are very competent at video games. They exist, but most arent vocal about their gender and a lot actively try and conceal it.

Basically this. I do have a mic but I only use it in games with friends now after some of the experiences I've had. I've had guys try to flirt with me, follow me around the map, send messages. It was rare to come up on a group that was not phased to hear a female in their midst.
