I just ask again, because I haven't found a solution and would love to play BG again. I have buyed the EE of both games on Steam and at first, it did run, but now, I can't start it anymore. I'm playing on Windows 7. Has anyone an idea, what to do? I tried some things already, but nothing helps I had a look and a solution that worked for some in regards to BG EE not working on Steam is to: Try deleting your Baldur configuration file. It's in the same folder as your saved games and then restart/launch the game. Here are some more solutions:
steamcommunity.com/app/228280/discussions/0/864957183134937159/?l=polish
Thanks, I already deleted that file and did most of the things mentioned in the link. I guess, I have to either play with my old versions again, in the hopes, that they still work on modern computers or not play BG at all. Still, I'm angry, such things happens, I did pay 20 bucks per game

IIRC BG was terribly bugged when released and you had to uninstall some patches and then install others it was a nightmare.

I watched my uncle play it when it was brand new, but I didn't play BG myself until after NWN came out. Still love them both. I've got three characters I usually play as - a Chaotic Good human thief, a Neutral Evil "tiefling" (aka human template, I just use a spiffy tiefling portrait) sorcerer, and a True Neutral half-orc barbarian. Am I missing out by not getting the Enhanced Editions? I've heard that there are some improvements to the graphics, interface and gameplay over the original, so would it be better for me to play the EE first, then go back to the original once I've finally gotten a better handle on how to play the game? I only play EE nowadays. I appreciate the sharper graphics and new companions.

I know I'm a bit late replying but I did play the original game and now I feel really old. I'd been interested in D&D but had no one to play with so Baldurs Gate was the answer to my prayers, although I had previously played Eye of the Beholder, which was really old school. I loved the Forgotten Realms setting. Played all the series and then Neverwinter Nights when it came out, also Icewind Dale series and Planescape Torment. Read all the original Drizzt books and several by other authors as well. I think you can safely say that Baldurs Gate began an obsession that has now transferred to Thedas.

Oh man, 20 years. Baldur's Gate was my first PC game along with Unreal Tournament '99. That was great time for gaming, many of my fondest memories come from the 1999-2006 gaming era.

Twenty years!!!
It is not yet twenty years since I actually played it for the first time - that will be June 29th of next year, my little brother's birthday. (And by 'played' I mean 'sat next to him and hassled him while he enjoyed his birthday present." I didn't start my own character until later, and it was much later than that before I actually finished the saga on my own ...)

Yup I gave up trying to replace BG as my top series years ago. This allowed me to appreciate other series for what they were.

I usually just clear out the bandit camp the hard way, but this time I convinced some mooks to let me join their club and escort me to the camp. I was able to walk where I wanted, talk to people, loot in plain site, all without being attacked. The only fight was upon entering the main tent. Killed the baddies, talked with Ender Sai (had to re-do the fight since the first time setting off the trap killed him ), looted everything, then walked back out and it was like nothing happened. All the bandits were still neutral. I wonder if they'll be hostile when I go back for the rest of the loot?

I can share some portraits when I'm home from holiday.
I tryed something else with my problem. I buyed both BGEE games at GOG. They had winter sales, so they did only cost me 9 dollars. I sometimes have better luck with older games, when I buyed them from GOG.

I have fond memories of shouting at my friends in skype group calls because they failed to protect my weak-bodied mage every time I pulled out Comet, and when they ran past every troll in the board just so they could fight them all at once.
Somewhere in the depths of my PC files, I still have videos of me relentlessly cutting down Imoen with 'burning hands' after recruiting her at the start of the game. Good times, makes me want to replay it just so I can do it all again.

After a long hiatus, my true neutral Pale Master (modded Sorcerer kit) has continued his journey and is now traveling with a full group of companions: Imoen, Minsc, Dynaheir and the mod NPC's Drake & Sirene. The group has now scoured most of the southern and central areas of the world map and recently cleared out the bandit camp in Peldvale: Shortly after this, the group was ambushed as they made their way towards Cloakwood as they continued their investigations. Norek got sloppy, more than anything else, but the end result was that big brute of a bandit managed to get close and chopped his arm off slightly above the elbow before being felled. Such an injury was beyond the skill of the group's healers, and he would not survive until they got him to a temple. After some initial brief protests and faced with the prospect of their companion bleeding out in the middle of nowhere, the group agreed to help the young spellcaster as he told them of the bold and questionable idea he had to save both his limb and his life. They did the physical part of slowing down his bleeding, placing and sewing his severed arm back in its place as he started to chant the words, hoping in his lightheaded daze that he remembered the ritual correctly from having read about it in a tome he wasn't supposed to have known about back when he and Imoen were still in Candlekeep. The above is my headcanon version of this that's part of the kit, rather than him voluntarily chopping his own arm off:
- 6th level: The pale master gives in to terrible necrophiliac urges. He cuts off his arm and replaces it with an undead prosthetic, which may be skeletal in form or preserved flesh stitched in place like that of a flesh golem. May use Undead Graft twice per day.
UNDEAD GRAFT: The pale master touches a target with a ghoulish hand. Target must save vs. death or be held for 5 rounds.

Working on another play through of the series! I unlocked Baldur's Gate finally, but it's gonna be tough to take the time to do the side quests in the city, since at this point I'm ready to power through and move on to Siege of Dragonspear.

I just posted a link about it in the gaming news thread. Larian has 2 game series that could get a 3rd entry (both in the Divinity universe) and I can see them troll people via metadata, so I personally would be cautious. Saying that, Brian Fargo did retweet the tease and he was the one last year who said he knew someone was making BG3. update: Jason Schreier is getting confirmation from his insider sources this is real. So yeah, hope away.

What does a BG3 game even mean though? I mean, the bhaalspawn saga feels complete with TOB, even if the narrative was a little weaker there.

Supposedly there were plans for a Baldur's Gate 3 called The Black Hound. Though it was to be set in the Dalelands and have a completely new cast of characters. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldur%27s_Gate_III:_The_Black_Hound

So what I’m getting from this is that BG3 would be more likely to be based on the tone and gameplay of the games rather than continuing where BG2 left off. But in that case, why call it Baldur’s Gate at all? idk, it’s not like it’s a huge deal and I’ll be happy to play it regardless.

WotC use Baldur's Gate as a brand for everything that start near or in Baldur's Gate in their product lines. Those things don't necessarily have anything to do with with the Bhaalspawn saga outside references and cameos.
For example, there is a new D&D module coming in September called Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus which start in Baldur's Gate and then bring the players into Avernus and the Nine Hells.
