Hello, so... er... any other fans of the game? I played the first incarnation ways back whens, whens cespenars voice acting was the bestest and I strove as a child of the great lord of BHAAL!
Ok that was, sorry, I won't do that again. Anyway I was actually just making this thread because I noticed we had all the other Bioware classic games was wondering if anyone wanted to chime in on their experiences.
I was a pretty big fan too, played it quite a few times, I also enjoyed BG2 quite a bit, tended to play differently and stuff though such as getting Carsomyr, etc.
And I even went so far as to enjoy the heck out of Throne of Bhaal, I think a few people had dropped off the series by then but I was intrigued enough to continue on the path.
I also managed to get into the Enhanced Edition a bit, mostly of course, it's the same game, but honestly I kind of enjoyed the new companions and characters a good deal.
So! Anyway, thought I'd at least create a topic on the matter.

As much as I give this game a lot of flak for clunky combat mechanics and some very user unfriendly design, I do actually enjoy it quite a bit. I actually prefer it to the KotoR era of BioWare which felt even clunkier on combat.
I keep the Enhanced Edition installed on Steam still to play it every once in a while. I mostly prefer EE because it lets me create my own party without having to mess with the MP, and the companions in BG1 weren't exactly that deep to begin with =P
It also means I can name my party after my friends and get them all killed in interesting ways.

I played the games to death when they first came out. Now I have both on my tablet...crazy how fast tech changes. But I still enjoy both games and look forward to whatever Beamdog does next with the oldies but goodies.

Loved the original versions. Too bad Beamdog shat all over them, though.

I played Baldur's Gate until almost the end. Once I realized the ridiculously low level cap, I quit. I did eventually finish it once I had mods intalled to take care of that.
I played the heck out of BGII and participated heavily in the modding community. I must admit, I romanced Anomen...

I played the Baldur`s Gate series more times that i can count, i loved the story, the characters, the quests. Baldur`s Gate 2 is still my favorite game of all time. I bought the enhanced edition on the last Steam sales but i haven`t play it yet. BevH - I romanced Anomen too . He was my favorite romance.

The EE versions are great. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that since I've got the Steam version, I can't choose to play an "outdated" version if a patch has been released. It's either "download the patch as soon as it becomes available" or "download and install the patch when you launch the game". Which wouldn't be an issue otherwise but since I use mods it pretty much breaks your saves whenever they release a patch, so it's either vanilla or hoping to finish a playthrough before they put out an update.

Oh my, shall I count the number I've times I've played BG/BGII? Admittedly, I got way more interested once I discovered mods (char/romance mods mostly) but even before that the games were incredibly fun. I got into FR first via books (unabashed Drizzt fangirl) so being able to play in that world myself was awesomesauce on a scone.
Heh, I romanced Anomen too, but only because he was the only one available. Now I can't stand him. Once I discovered mods that added Kivan and Xan to BGII (and really enhanced them in BGI) well, that was that. Haven't played either game since I built this computer a little over 5 yrs ago, but still love them both.

The Gibberlings 3 is a good place to go for mods. Of course, I may be a bit biased since I'm a moderator there. (Well, I'm actually mostly retired.)

There's also Pocket Plane Group and Spellhold Studios. Lots of good stuff at all 3 sites!

I'm thinking about finally finishing the EE, it seemed fine I'm up to like but I was playing it on GOG galaxy and that thing like broke and crashed.
By, the thing, I mean GOG.

*snip* Heh, I get heckled a lot for my love of Anomen. Even I must admit there are times when I call him Sir Jerkwad. I refer to him as "Annoymen" And yes I romanced him too... The first time I played I had no idea there were romances, so when he confessed I was: "Wait, what?!" Over the years I came to remember him quite fondly... then I replayed the game a couple of years ago and well... my rosecolored glasses broke... On the bright side I could see Solaufein again Edit: And Haer'dalis! How could I forget him!

Over the years I came to remember him quite fondly... then I replayed the game a couple of years ago and well... my rosecolored glasses broke... On the bright side I could see Solaufein again Edit: And Haer'dalis! How could I forget him! Yup, first time I played I found Anomen so annoying that I just got rid of him as soon as I could, had no idea about romances Then years later I found mod romances which thankfully are varied and many, sadly (or not so sadly... ) I never did get past the urge to insult Anomen as soon as his overinflated ego started showing up in conversations. I still pine for a proper Solaufein romance (can't stand the Weimer one because I'm allergic to poetry and long philosophical discussions ), but someone did finally manage to make a Haer'Dalis one without it being doomed like all previous attempts. I do love the BG games though, for their stories, characters, voice acting etc. I've got all the different EE versions but haven't played them beyond doing that.... stand alone drow arena death-match thing? I was partially waiting for mods to be tinkered with so they could work with the EEs, also lacking in tiiiimmeee.

BG2 is the game that got me hooked in minutes. I still love it, even the spellhold. Loved Anomen too. Later I found this amazing Edwin romance mod and loved him even more 😁 For me no game since has beaten bg2.

I LOVED the Edwin romance! He was so adorable and hilarious. Bummer that it was bugged in ToB but for main game BGII it was a good one.

BG1 was good, but BG2 is still probably my second favourite game ever (behind PS:T). God knows how many times I played through it back in the day. Did the all the romances as some point, though Jaheira is still the best for me. Went through plenty of mods (though sucked massively at all the increased difficulty ones).
Hell, it was the game that introduced me to online forums - I was having some technical issues (I forget exactly what - might have been the crap related to getting ToB to actually play on many CDROM drives) and a search lead me to the old Black Isle message boards...

Oh dear the Paladin guy... "My lady , I must confess perhaps I has feelings for you." "My lady , if you have a moment , I went too far too soon.I didn't mean to offend you by confessing my love for you." "My lady , I do not deserve you.Your heart is so pure , and even if I'm a beautiful and righteous paladin , some deep dark daddy issue are burning bright in my heart." "My lady , I apologize. The light and beauty of your heart eclips the burning in my heart.I hope my boldness won't make you blush but can I kiss you on the cheek?" "My lady..." My lady..." "My lady..."
I didn't finish BG2 , and the Paladin Guy romance was part of me getting fed up.

I'm going to be romancing non-vengeful Anomen in my showcase, linked above. I'll need to take Keldorn for the extra Order dialogue, too.
