So the party left the relative safety of Beregost and went south of the Friendly Arm Inn to do a side quest. We found and killed the troll or ogre that had the girdle a patron from one of the inns in Beregost had offered a reward for. Now we have a lot of stuff we need to sell and find which inn the quest giver resides. Thanks. I am loving both the music and the game. Currently there is an assassin in one of the inns in Beregost that completely destroys my party. I obviously need to level up. But leveling up is so slow. The closest to level up is the druid Jaheira. Also the two evil companions that I recruited when I first left Candlekeep. One of them complained that I had not taken them to Nashkel yet. Are they going to leave me if I dally any longer? Also why do spellcasters take so long casting spells? By the time Jaheira finishes casting bless, most of the party is dead. lol <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 23.960000000000036px; height: 4.900000000000006px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_44803070" scrolling="no" width="23.960000000000036" height="4.900000000000006"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 23.96px; height: 4.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1138px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_47055563" scrolling="no" width="23.960000000000036" height="4.900000000000006"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 23.96px; height: 4.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 184px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_97445967" scrolling="no" width="23.960000000000036" height="4.900000000000006"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 23.96px; height: 4.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1138px; top: 184px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_63210710" scrolling="no" width="23.960000000000036" height="4.900000000000006"></iframe>

Old school BG they left permanently if you don't take them where they need to go. With the enhanced edition they MAY go to the nearest in. At that point in the game I use one tank (guy with a shield and decent hp) everyone else uses ranged (bows, slings). Spells like bless are better casted before the fight. If you're loving the game keep trying different spells and abilities to see what works. If you're thinking about quitting there are guides on the net, my all time favorite is DSimson guide gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/75251-baldurs-gate/faqs/2456

Just finished Bg2 on legacy of Bhaal and Icewind Dale on HoF: finished Icewind Dale on core rules, imported the party into Bg2 finished it on legacy of Bhaal then imported that party into Icewind Dale (HoF). Both runs were a bit tedious; enemies have so much hps and such resistances that it was pretty much summon a planetar or a deva and watch how they destroy everything (yes your summons have insane ammount of hps 2). Must have turned into a Slayer on that last boss fight in SoA so i didnt notice my inquisitor became fallen. Noticed him being fallen when my cleric/fighter started turning undead in the Vale of Shadows (inquisitor became frightened) - shame you cant reedem him . End boss fight in SoA was piece of cake (planetar + blobe of blades - gg) unlike the one in Icewind Dale (2 cornugons + 2 iron golens + Belhifet) but i somehow managed it with only my fighter mage being destroyed, he summoned a planetar before bitting the dust and fortunately my fallen inquisitor summoned 3-4 devas after the planetar was unsummoned. Started a new party (Undead hunter, Priest of Lathander, Bounty hunter, Enchanter, Shaman and Skald) on core rules. Gonna import my pally into Bg1 and finnish the story of Bhaalspawn with him

Weird bug. I got to Spellhold and was reunited with Imoen. But she was listed as being a 24 mage/7 rogue on her character sheet! Now, normally I'd just and let her annihilate anything in our paths, but aside from the xp needed to level to 25, nothing about her reflected being an epic-level caster: spell slots, hit points, proficiencies. Fortunately, I had EEKeeper and was able to alter her level to something more...appropriate for her character so she's normal now.

I started a new game of BGEE. Haven't played this version before. No DLC or mods are installed; it's just vanilla EE, if that's a thing.
My character is an elf named Ravelle, Beast-Master Ranger. She doesn't like Imoen and tried to get her to go away but that didn't work very well. Just made it out of the prologue where a "mysterious figure" attacked and killed Gorion. Gathered up all the loot left behind from the fight (and noticed a sly clue in E's letter, where he references "those [plural] in your care"). Insulted a fop named Chase enough to change his mind about killing himself, then made camp. Also managed to kill a single wolf. No gibberling hordes yet, thankfully.
I'm still a lowly level 1. In newer games, I'd probably be to level 3 by now.

Still Balduring and Gating....
Cleared Nashkel Mine and now doing some exploring. So many areas you would never even see if you just did the main story quests. I found Melicamp the Chicken and helped turn him back into a human; helped Drizzt Do'Urden fight off a horde of gnolls; lugged some guy all the way back to the Friendly Inn for healing; stumbled on a crazy necromancer talking to undead like they were his family (haven't visited the temple to get the quest to off him); and now hanging out at a dig site, waiting for something to happen.
Current party is Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Branwen, and Xan. It took all my willpower to pass over Kivan at High Hedge and Minsc and Edwin in Nashkel. For the first time I can remember, everyone is some shade of Neutral (my elf is Neutral Good).

I checked out a list of possible companions in the BG games and....wow! It's way longer than I thought! There's probably 20 in BG1 alone, more now with EE, and I've barely used half of them. I don't play evil chars so I've rarely used (or in some cases encountered) any of them. Just ran across Safana today and told her nope since she somehow mistook my female elf for a male.
I didn't realize Garrick from Beregost was actually a possibility, even though he always asks to join after I get rid of Silke. I think a big turn off for me is the portraits - so many of them look so clowney....I just can't take them seriously.
As for current party, Jaheira is starting to get on my nerves. I might have to dump her and Khalid here pretty soon.

Am I missing out by not getting the Enhanced Editions?
I've heard that there are some improvements to the graphics, interface and gameplay over the original, so would it be better for me to play the EE first, then go back to the original once I've finally gotten a better handle on how to play the game?

Yeah the Enhanced Edition is designed to run on more modern systems. With the original game you need some mods to make it run well. At least in my experience. Gameplay hasn't changed much, aside form some UI changes and I believe a "story mode" difficulty setting that makes you essentially unkillable.

I've only played EE. But my impression is they just make the games playable on modern systems easier, they don't change the story or gameplay. I never saw a reason to try the originals myself.

A couple UI changes I like are spell scrolls highlighted green if you haven't written them into your book yet and auto-labeling main locations (like buildings you've visited in town) on the map. Makes figuring out where things are much easier.

20th anniversary tomorrow. Anyone else play it at launch? Or are folk 'enhanced edition' adoptees? It`s been 20 years ? Now i`m feeling old . I did played it at launch (ish), my brother, a D&D player at the time and a pc gamer, played this game first and then convinced me to try it. It was my first rpg game and i became completely hooked after it. I have great memories of this games (Baldur`s Gate 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time) and i still play the series from time to time (now with the enhanced versions).

Anyone else play it at launch? Another BG veteran here. Even though I haven't played the original version for many years (first I switched to the the Tutu version and then to the EE), I recall quite well the times when arrow management was a major pain and the game unpaused when you entered the inventory, which was at the time, their "solution" to the problem that you shouldn't be able to change armor in combat.
It's been 20 years? Doesn't feel all that long ago.

I think, I must have played BG1 shortly after it came out. It brought me to computer rpgs and still is, with BG2, the most played rpg for me (closely followed by the DA series and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines). If not for the stupid EE and/or Steam bug, I would playing BG right now, because I often come back around Christmas holidays to play it

I'm playing on Windows 7. Has anyone an idea, what to do? I tried some things already, but nothing helps I had a look and a solution that worked for some in regards to BG EE not working on Steam is to: Try deleting your Baldur configuration file. It's in the same folder as your saved games and then restart/launch the game. Here are some more solutions:

BG was my first PC game. As a PnP D&D player it was like magic that you could play D&D on a computer. My god 20 years ago, now I feel really old and I still have the box with the 6 CD's.

I actually did things backwards - played NWN first, then went back to BG. Love the setting from the books, so being able to play in the Forgotten Realms sandbox was (and is) unbelievably awesome.
In my current game.... Rescued Dynaheir from the gnolls and added her to the party. On the way back to Nashkel to unload a bunch of loot, came across an xvart village. Normally I swing around it to avoid the combat but them accusing me of attacking them when they attacked me first made me not give a crap, so the party killed them all, and their bears too.
Then headed to Beregost to clean up some sidequests. Next stop is the temple east of town, to pick up and turn in the quest for Basileus.

I wish my memory was better, I played all the NWN games but my memory of them is almost zero. Still have those CD's as well. I also have 22 R.A. Salvatore Forgotten Realms and D&D books, not sure if that's all of them or not and loved reading them but again the memory just isn't what it used to be. What was I saying?
