Do you guys have any recommendations for party combos? More in terms of banter than class synergy but either is fine. I've played through the series only once so far and I stuck with the "canon party" with the additions of Jan Jansen in BG2 and Sarevok in ToB. It was fine and I adore Minsc and Jan, but I'd like to try out some other party members. I say go for a more neutral party, although admittingly the characters are a bit weaker save for the other two evil returnees. Haer'Delis I would say is a good choice. Nalia if you don't mind the Imonen clone is ok as well, I would take Viconia and Edwin as they are perhaps the best two characters in the game in terms of their respective classes, and if your feeling bold, use Amonen on his Chaotic route. Jan is a damn good party member, but a neutral/ slightly evil party is a lot of fun if you can make it work without him. Thanks for the suggestions. I'd really like to mix some evil aligned characters with some good or neutral ones that they won't fight to the death with. Particularly Viconia and Edwin, as you mentioned. The others, like Korgan and Dorn, seem difficult to take seriously with how over the top evil they seem to be though granted I didn't interact a ton with them. I did Nalia's quest in my first game but didn't recruit her into the party as I didn't really care for her. But I do want to try out the others you brought up. All this makes me want to start my next game soon! There's so many things I still need to out, what with all the party combos and quests I missed the first time around.

If you need to pick a good-aligned character, I would suggest Mazzy as she doesn't have any conflicts, I believe, with Edwin or Vicionia.

Viconia doesn't get along with Keldorn or Valygar (the latter requires a very specific trigger though), and neither does Edwin with Minsc, Valygar or Neera (Edwin and Neera don't fight tho, they just can't be in the same party). Korgan and Aerie come to blows, but he actually has some good banter with Mazzy. Depending on the conclusion to his personal quest line, Anomen can also fight Aerie (and Keldorn). Dorn will fight with both Anomen and Keldorn. Haer'Dalis actually attacks the player if you're male and romancing Aerie. There might still be one or two more conflicts I'm blanking on. And I'd personally highly recommend getting the "cheat" from the tweaks anthology which prevents party members from leaving due to the party getting too high or low a reputation. I really dislike that particular mechanic when having a party that's not exclusively one alignment, especially when there's such a high number of quests that grant reputation upon completion.

That sounds like a good idea. For me a game has to have a really interesting way of being evil for me to pursue it. Baldur's Gate does not deliver that for me personally so this is probably the best way for me to experience those companions.

Haer'Dalis is one of my favorites. Mazzy and Jan are great too. I think they all go on well with Edwin and Viconia. Since there is no real romance for a female character (no, Anomen is not an option for me ), I do use the Haer'Dalis romance mod, which is really good - originally, he should have been a second romance choice for females, but was cut, so this mod is not totally out of the blue.

Yeah, it's pretty sad that Aerie has more romance options (male PC and Haer'dalis) than a female PC in the vanilla game. I haven't tried the HD romance mod but it's in my "to do" pile. I kind of got stuck on Kivan and Xan though I did manage one run with an Edwin romance. That was hilarious!

Out of curiosity has anyone tried the enhanced edition romances? Rasaad and Dorn add two new options for female characters technically though I have no idea how good they are. Oh, and Hexxat in BG2 for a same sex option.

Jaheiras is good but really out of nowhere since she lost her husband so violently and all of a sudden is romancing again so quickly... and Aeries is too...cliche much like Amonen. I need to try these mods. I hear there is one that actually brings Xan to Baldur's Gate 2. That I got to try.

Loved killing Volothamp and Drizzt. Volothamp requires use of the polymorph wand glitch that allows you to kill essential npc's(even children if I recall correctly).

I need to try these mods. I hear there is one that actually brings Xan to Baldur's Gate 2. That I got to try. I had played BG2 several times before using either the Kivan or Xan mods. But, taking the two of them in my party to the Underdark really gave me, the player, a whole new perspective on just how awful that place is. Before I had treated it as just another zone to get through. They made it a real place to get the hell out of asap.

I actually tried reading the Crystal Shard to my kiddo a few weeks back, and it was not particularly weak. I do remember getting tired of them at some point, but I dunno, I thought it was fun enough while it lasted & and the chars were okay.

They must not have fought very hard. The only way to possibly win against Drizzt is to let him get distracted by the gnolls and stab him in the back. In a fair fight the party tends to explode violently when he kills them.

I'm talking about BG2. If you meet him in BG2 while having his stuff equipped, he accuses you of "attacking him outside Baldur's gate for no good reason" and "making off with his equipment" Obviously, you need to use console commands for this... Edit: he also doesn't take it kindly if you name your own character "Drizzt"

I'm armed to the teeth and packing a hamster! I might be in the minority, but I have never had any ill feelings towards Drizzt, Elminster, Alustriel, Cadderly... I actually tried reading the Crystal Shard to my kiddo a few weeks back, and it was not particularly weak. I do remember getting tired of them at some point, but I dunno, I thought it was fun enough while it lasted & and the chars were okay. I don't know about this thread, but i'm pretty positive that Drizzt and it's author are generally quite popular and loved... The graphic novels are not too shabby either!

Don't recall anyone showing up to take his stuff. Edit: he also doesn't take it kindly if you name your own character "Drizzt" Yeah, I remember that last one. IIRC you also had to have your elf to look like a drow to get him upset. Just one of those BioWARE having fun on the job moments.
