Improvements to male romance options for Scott Ryder... How?

Well I've been lurking for a long while now. Ups and downs.

I have zero hopes for this, it will probably just be some animation fixes, especially due to the wording. I guess we'll see in two months?
Honestly part of me hopes Drack becomes another romance option seeing as any Ryder can hit on him and he doesn't exactly reject it. He's already in the team, already has content, no need to create a whole new character and make sure they fit in. It will just be making the romance lines. If they do this I will forgive Bioware for everything. Plus I have a thing for Krogan and Turian.

But I know they won't so I have no hopes for it and all of this is just very wishful thinking!

M/M romances are not my thing but... I know Gil is gay, and the whole time he was telling me about his baby all I could think was "does this still happen if you romance him"? Seriously, I can't imagine being gay and this dude being my only real romance option (oh yeah, now my Scott can raise a kid with Gil & Jill... awesome)... now I see why the LGBT gamer community was so angry. They should have just made Jaal bisexual.

Nah I want Alien Romances, I'm sick of my only options being two humans I don't give a crap about.

Giving Reyes more lines isn't going to fix that. It's still the same 2 options.

Reyes expansion would be my preference at this point. It is worded as an "improvement" so I can't see it including a whole new romance. If they unlock Jaal's for male PCs, I am all for it, but myself won't take this option. Avitus could have been great, but you get the Turian story so late in the game, I dunno. I did not see anyone but Reyes in the early story that could make a great character to romance planet-side.

Before I started playing I wanted them to include Jaal as a romance option, but after playing I have zero interest in romancing Jaal. I don't have any idea which NPC to add as a romance for a male Ryder. But I would like more content for Gil (and possibly Reyes). I want something like in DAI, when I can go to him for a kiss whenever I please. Gil definitely needs more kissing and hugging. And I want a kiss at the end of the game without the damned baby!

So, it's not necessarily for m/m ones. For all we know perhaps they want to polish that sex scene with Cora even more, lol

I think they’re being intentionally vague to avoid more backlash if they can’t deliver within the time frame they’ve offered so far. I wouldn’t be surprised if BroRyder’s VA was already on an NDA on the subject because they don’t want any more negative press if he were to say the wrong thing again. Understandable, but it’s not going to help anything – there are undoubtedly people building up just what ‘improvements to male romances’ means. It’s probably going to amount to some more e-mails, maybe a more explicit romance scene for Gil’s romance, a romance sequence for Reyes of some kind, and other little touch ups.

There’s evidence that Jaal was going to be bi right up until the last minute – in the game files, there’s a BroRyder voice file saying ‘I love you Jaal,’ and BroRyder’s VA indicated on Twitter a while back that he’d recorded lines for a Jaal romance. From what I understand, the dialogue in Jaal’s romance is mostly gender neutral, and #MakeJaalBi has gained a lot of traction. It seems like it’d be very doable with the resources they have, without bringing anyone back into the studio. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but based on what I’ve seen, it does not appear to be impossible to do. Whether or not it’s done is another story.

That’s where I’m at least watching – Mass Effect as a franchise is turning ten, and there is STILL no M/M alien romance? This is ridiculous, especially considering that Liara was available for FemShep in ME1.

Ideally, I’d love to see them rebuild Gil’s entire “arc” to remove or at least severely downplay the involvement of Jill. Give him more content period, but especially remove the aspect of her pressuring him, apparently Andromeda’s only human gay guy, into having a kid. Like, I’d be okay with him coming up with the idea on his own, but not with Jill being the one to suggest it, and especially not as is – feels WAAAAAY too much like some self-proclaimed ‘fag hag’ telling her gay BFF that if she’s still single at 35 or whatever that they should totally have a kid, and Gil basically being stubborn and digging his heels in because someone rightly told him this was a bad idea. But build it into a real character arc – they try as it is to imply some kind of ‘maturity’ thing with him as a result of being with Ryder, but that’s not actually shown. If they want to treat Gil as ‘becoming a better man’ because he’s with Ryder, there needs to be some real effort put into it.

A few new flirt options out there with male characters, let there be a few fling options as well wouldn’t go amiss (and give some for F/F players, too – Avela Kjar should totally be bi), and some additional conversations with Reyes post-Kadara’s storyline would also be a solid improvement.

But I expect that the DLC will really be where the fixes come – I fully anticipate some DLC to focus around the Exiles on Kadara, with Reyes playing a part, given that no matter what happens in High Noon, he survives. So I fully expect him to be a temporary squadmate for some piece of DLC. The problem with this is if it’ll be a case of ‘too little, too late,’ for people who don’t really want to give them more money, pay more for content that they were shorted on in the main game.
