I also think that MEA badly needs some 'in-game' live music, like modern space version of those tavern bard songs. At some point the ME franchise needs to give us at least one scene with a volus performing karaoke in some club before I will be happy.

I barely remembered actual music being played apart from that ominous ambient crap that we got especially during the conversations on the tempest. The music in this game doesn't even come close to capturing the atmosphere/tone of the interactions/events in this game. I know I can find music on the internet and play it in the background, but this game needs to be able to stand on its own in this regard and so far the music in this game is in this state at best: It's so forgettable that after a couple days of not playing I don't remember any music with substance aside from the menu music just that ominous ambient music because that is what gets used most of the time.

It was OK, but a little generic. It did its job, but lacked any epic moments. Hmmm...prolly the perfect music for this game! DAO and the ME trilogy had some amazing music. As soon as I turned those games on, I was immediately pulled into the mood because of the music. I knew just what to expect. DAO = prepare for cheesy/angsty epic fantasy. ME1 = prepare for an adult sci-fi game with a bit of darkness ME2 - prepare to hear Martin Sheen bein shady ME3 = prepare to have your heart ripped out DAI = prepare for a dose of religious zealotry Each game had its own feel, and it all worked with the music. I don't remember DA2's music at all, and I will forget MEA's, most likely.

Yeah I also thought the main title of Andromeda was poached from DA:I's main title. My girlfriend made sure to constantly remind me of this when booting up the game. Can't unhear it now.

The Inquisitor's theme was pretty good (especially the cello part), but the rest of the soundtrack was rather forgettable compared to DAO. For whatever reason since DAI, BioWare is really reeling back the significance of the soundtrack, which I think is a mistake.

I think that MEA has absolutely great atmospheric ambience, but it would be nice to get some memorable tracks too. I've 'Audiosurfed' most of the MET OSTs, riding ME1 theme, 'leaving Earth' or 'Suicide mission' is fucking awesome, but MEA has no proper tracks. Even their 'main' theme is more like a backgorung tune. Not to mention that I can't stop hearing similarities with DAI main theme (dawn will come). I also think that MEA badly needs some 'in-game' live music, like modern space version of those tavern bard songs. Now I'm imagining something like the cantina music in Star Wars.

Lol the main theme of Andromeda is a rip off of Destiny. This composer was a mistake. I'm starting to hate this modern trend of ambient music. I want music to mean something, for it to evoke emotion. Ambient sounds make sense only for planet scanning. I want music to explore the setting and describe it through music. This game, of all the problems the music flat out sucks.

There's nothing wrong with ambient music if it's executed well. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild made an amazing use of ambient music that was also fitting for the time period and setting. It also has all of the iconic music from the franchise fans have come to know and love littered throughout the game. I just don't believe ambient music was appropriate for MEA as it wasn't that kind of game. It would have been appropriate for the turian "golden world" that was already destroyed, but it just wasn't fitting anywhere else.

What's ironic about this statement is the fact the main composer for DAI didn't do any of the tavern songs. In fact, one of the most popular tavern songs was done by Inon Zur, who did the main soundtracks for DAO and DAII.

What really annoyed me was the end-game music on the last mission. Almost sounded like Star Wars in composition. Suicide Music from ME2 would have been preferable. That track was some of the best I have heard in a game similar to this.

I had to turn down the sfx volume to actually hear. It's good sometimes great but they need to make it louder and prevalent in the game. They also need music in the Hub worlds

Another day, another thread about how old music is better. Doesn't matter what game you're talking about.
The music was awesome. I'm really surprised by the number of people who answered "There was music?" and wondering if most of them aren't being disingenuous.

I really like to listen to game soundtracks (they might even be my favorite music genre), but sadly, Andromeda's kind of let me down. Apart from the great Galaxy Map remake there weren't any tracks that really stood out; which is especially bad when compared to ME2 which had phenomenal music.

I don't think you could call it terrible. It wasn't distracting, it never detracted from a scene or prevented me from hearing something important. It never took me out of the mood. Most of the time you don't even notice it. That's not bad music, that's just subdued music. The music was there to fill it's purpose and it did. Unlike the trilogy it was never centre-stage, never the focus. In Afterlife, Virmire and throughout ME2 the music is centre stage, loud and designed to set the atmosphere. In Andromeda it's simply in the background. It's not good by any stretch, but I can't call it bad when it was never a focus and I can't even remember it. If it was terrible I'm sure I would remember it. Memorable music has such a big impact on player experience though, to the point where I think it's unacceptable for a game of ME:A's budget and development time to not have EXCEPTIONAL music. You know those pieces of music which you get chills just from listening to without thinking about anything else? Combining them with an appropriate game scene can make for an incredible moment. I really think people seriously underestimate the effect of a amazing soundtrack. Just by subconsciously affecting people's emotions. We aren't all as objective as we think, and I'm sure that some people will have had better experiences with the game if it had been accompanied by excellent music. Even if you want to compare to ME1 which is a similar style of game (exploration, RPG elements) ME1 still does it so much better. The original mass effect theme, vigil, etc. all provide so much more atmosphere. Very few games have "exceptional" soundtracks, particularly triple A games. Because they have other priorities. In fact, I've played less than 10 games, maybe even less than 5 that I'd say had "exceptional" music. Mass Effect 2 is one of them. Mass Effect 1 and 3 are not, or any Dragon Age games for that matter. The two best soundtracks I've heard in gaming came from Child of Light and Transistor. Neither were triple A, quite the opposite, but both focused on the music to an extent that made them exceptional. They put in a lot of effort into those tracks, and in the matter case even tied a game mechanic to them. I'm not saying Andromedas music is good, just that it's not terrible. It's subdued and 'meh'. And while it would obviously have been great if it had been exceptional, It's pretty clear that it was never meant to be.

Leaving Earth was the stupid piano track right? screw that track. All of ME3's soundtrack was largely unmemorable. Illusive Man, Freedom's Progress and bits of Jack and Mordin's suite were the only stand out good bits from Vanilla ME2.
Aside from A Trail of Hope. Main Menu Track, and the Galaxy Map music everything else is meh, it needs more synth. More than 5 percent of it. They should've just hired the guys who did ME1's music.
As for the club tracks, I haven't heard all of them (because the Vortex lounge is so quiet) but there are two tracks from Comaduster. Comaduster is the guy who did "To Hide, To Seek" which is the track you hear at Illium.

Hmm, I'll have to pay more attention when playing. I haven't particularly noticed the music except the main title screen and that sounds just like DAI's.
