I thought DA:I's soundtrack was great, and it was my favorite of the DA series. To be honest it was probably the only one in the series I liked. DA:O and DA2 had some tracks I liked, but overall I thought DA had much less memorable soundtracks than ME until DA:I. My only complaint was that like ME:A, you don't hear it often. Sorry for the temp derail.

Lets be honest.
The music was mostly ripped off.
Half heartedly applied.
And bad.

Let's be honest, the music for Andromeda was fucking awesome.

I remember the two notes from the title screen, and I remember the music once or twice sounding like wannabe Virmire music. That's about it.
MEA's soundtrack doesn't hold a candle to ME3's and ME1's soundtracks.

I do like a few of the tracks - Neutron Purge is awesome, Better beginning, A trail of hope, Exaltation, Jardaan. The lack of music while exploring also hurt the game more than it needed too. Still i enjoyed it, and i would rate it as ok/good depending on the track. Noticed that in the patch notes there was something about scenes not having music that would be corrected. Actually i never got into Mass Effect's soundtrack until ME2.

Yes, the soundtrack is barely noticeable if not utterly minimalistic and the music tracks itself are....lackluster. Compared to the iconic soundtrack in all the other ME games those in ME:A are quite bland and forgettable. I will never look them up in Youtube.
Funny, the last thing I expected them to screw up was music as it was always one of the best features in the franchise. :smh:
I mean, the Andromeda soundtrack compared to this.....

In another thread about the soundtrack someone called ME:A's soundtrack musical wallpaper. It's there, but you're not really supposed to notice it much.
I'd never heard that term before but it seemed like a perfect description.

Yeah and music while driving in the old Mako was usually quite good, like this piece from Virmire:
I don't remember music while driving in the Nomad.

The soundtrack is the easiest thing to screw up imo. If the project director doesn't understand music and how to use it, you can wind up with generic stuff to fill the sonic void - like Han said, wallpaper music. BioWare was incredibly fortunate to have given the reins to Jack Wall and Sam Hulick at the start. They set the mood and created the themes. Much of what followed were variations on those themes and moods, even as new themes were added along the way.
Andromeda's music differs by being more motivic than thematic. It's a style decision, but the risk is being remembered as just a jumble of notes. Great composers can create some amazing things in the style. Others use it to cover for a lack of inspiration.

My problem isn't the lack of music or that it didn't feel like Mass Effect or anything, but whenever it was there it sounded like it didn't want to be heard.

The music was either absent or lacking in this game, one of Andromeda's major faults in my opinion. Especially since there isn't even much ambient sound to cover the complete silence in half of the areas with no music

I'd say it was pretty uninspired, deriving a lot from games like Halo 4, and overall quite forgettable

It's not so much that the soundtrack is bad, just that there's not near enough for a game of this size.
I suppose it's what an artist would call "minimalist".

Wat's that? *cups hand to ear* Music?? *puts horn to ear* Wat music. *glares around and shuffles off* I think there was only one notable instance; when the Hyperion arrived at the cluster. That's the only piece of music I heard clearly. Otherwise, I had SAM dinning in mah ears. Play it again SAM, if you will. Play it!

There was a brief moment (brief) during Jaal's LM that I noticed a short segment of music I liked but I didn't care for where it went. I honestly can't remember any of the tracks, except that when I heard them they felt like they attempted to sound like a ME track. And it sounded like ME, but like a store brand version of the original trilogy's tracks. The songs on the radio in the Pathfinder's Quarters were atrocious to me.
The ending theme was okay... I prefer Faunts' ending theme from ME1 <- that song got me pumped and made the whole adventure feel epic. (Same feeling I got after beating VtM:Bloodlines, a game with one of the best soundtracks and ambiance I've ever heard.) Andromeda's started playing and I wasn't keen on it but grew to a, " 's alright" feel halfway through.
Music was definitely one of the weaker points of this game for me. It wasn't bad, just there (or not, for some people) and to a brand like ME, that's a sad turn of events.

Not only did they do the ending theme for ME1, but also ME3. With how much BioWare was trying to sell fans that this was still a Mass Effect game, it just seemed like an odd departure, like the overall soundtrack in general. A truly missed opportunity, as the soundtrack is always one of the things I look forward to the most in a Mass Effect game.

I went 90 hours into the game before realizing my Tempest quarters had 20-some music tracks to listen to.
As cool as they are, I would give them all up for 5 minutes of ambient music on the Nexus.

Maybe trying to distance this game from the Trilogy? That doesn't exactly fit, though; there's a lot of things tying into the trilogy. Mac responded to a question regarding the soundtrack in one of the interviews prior to the games release. They asked if they would take after the sounds of the OT since they were so memorable for people and Walters answered that the OT's established a new trend in Sci-fi music that was emulated by others from other games to movies to television. They wanted to be pioneers again and find a new sound that would establish ME: Andromeda and future games in the series and maybe set a new bar for music of the Sci-fi genre. So, I'd guess this would attribute to them not choosing Faunts for Andromeda.

Not only was it not memorable, but it didn't sound all that original either. It was just far too passive for one to really have an opinion one way or the other. I don't know where the blame lies, whether it's the Creative Director, Sound Director, or the composer. It just came across as uninspired, which is really odd considering going to a new galaxy and finding a new home should be exciting. It may have been in their best interest to play it a little safe with the soundtrack and not depart too much from that iconic soundtrack. When you think of iconic franchises, such as Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings, they have a recognizable sound that's never lost no matter how many iterations or stories are created in those universes. In this case, it probably would have been better to be safe than sorry.

The music sounded like it was making a half-ass attempt at calling back to the OT's music but trying to do something totally different at the same time. I agree with it sounding uninspired and I would slap the generic label to it. It's a C rated soundtrack for me. I gathered from the interview that they may believe the OT's sound is now too formulaic and I disagree. Perhaps this is why this soundtrack was uninspired; they didn't know what to do with it? The Mass Effect sound established in the OT is an area I don't think needs to be messed with or be deviated from too much. It is iconic for a reason.

It was generic sadly. only got my attention during the final mission and it is still not memorable. hope the composer did better with his next incoming project which is the Defenders tv show apparently.

No need to try and reinvent the wheel here. Nothing wrong with pulling from the greatest aspects of the original trilogy and bringing it forward to Andromeda. I think the team was fooling itself if it really believed lightning could strike twice. Mass Effect already had a recognizable sound that didn't need to be replaced. No reason to depart from that when the original soundtracks are more or less universally loved. Hopefully, BioWare learned its lesson for future games. I'm not sure BioWare understands just how much an amazing soundtrack can bolster the overall experience.
