The music sounded like it was making a half-ass attempt at calling back to the OT's music but trying to do something totally different at the same time. I agree with it sounding uninspired and I would slap the generic label to it. It's a C rated soundtrack for me. I gathered from the interview that they may believe the OT's sound is now too formulaic and I disagree. Perhaps this is why this soundtrack was uninspired; they didn't know what to do with it? The Mass Effect sound established in the OT is an area I don't think needs to be messed with or be deviated from too much. It is iconic for a reason. Agreed. No need to try and reinvent the wheel here. Nothing wrong with pulling from the greatest aspects of the original trilogy and bringing it forward to Andromeda. I think the team was fooling itself if it really believed lightning could strike twice. Mass Effect already had a recognizable sound that didn't need to be replaced. No reason to depart from that when the original soundtracks are more or less universally loved. Hopefully, BioWare learned its lesson for future games. I'm not sure BioWare understands just how much an amazing soundtrack can bolster the overall experience. Back to Revan again

Back to Revan again I figured since I wanted to change my profile pic (and perhaps signature), I may as well revert back to my previous name. I like to mix things up. BioWare, on the other hand, should not have mixed up the music!

I wonder if it's possible for Jack or Sam to come back. Have they moved on for good? I know they are other good composers out there that could emulate or write music in the spirit of them.

I'm sure they'd love to come back if BioWare gave them the opportunity. Rarely do I ever hear of a composer refusing to come back to do a new score for a very successful AAA game. It's easy money and it bolsters their reputation in the public eye. BioWare just likes to inject variety and not rely on the same composer for too many games. Just as an example: Jeremy Soule composed the score for KOTOR 1. Jack Wall composed the score for JE. Jack Wall and Sam Hulick composed the score for ME1 and ME2. Sam Hulick, Clint Mansell, and various others composed the score for ME3. Inon Zur composed the score for DAO and DAII. Trevor Morris composed the score for DAI. John Paesano composed the score for MEA. Jack Wall is a bit unusual since he did the soundtrack for Jade Empire and the first two Mass Effect games. But otherwise, BioWare likes to constantly bring in new talent. So far, MEA is BioWare's least inspiring soundtrack to date. I didn't like DAI much better either. I'm hoping that the new IP blows me away, because BioWare games have been seriously lacking in the music department since ME3.

There is some fantastic ambient sounds out in the wild that make up for the lack of a looping music track that'll get old by the 50th hour. I do wish the Nexus had a theme but I'm quite fine with the small portions of music that are there during exploration. Lots of dirty synth and acoustic instruments.
ME3's paino stuff was corny as hell and repeated way too much. Guess they had to get their moneys worth after spending Hollywood bucks for a few tracks.

Ok I think they were really trying to be super different with Andromeda mainly due to the kerfuffle over ME3's ending. Wasn't my favorite, but I got over it and it doesn't bother me as much. . I just think they went a bit overboard in trying to be different. I think they felt forced to. With the music especially - as I said a lot of the love from the OT came from the terrific music. So Andromeda can of course have new characters, locations, story and stuff but really wanted the same kinda music from the OT.

Wall has done two Call of Dutys (Black Ops II and III), Lost Planet 3, and recently Into the Stars, while Hulick has been working on film shorts. They've been fairly busy.

The Andromeda OST was perfectly fine.
The problem: THEY BARELY USED THE FUCKING SOUNDTRACK THEY PAID TO BE PRODUCED
I can count on my hands the amount of times some background music truly came up during a cinematic or mission. It's absurd how completely wasted the soundtrack was, because the game was so silent music wise.

I would have liked to see more allusions to the themes of the original trilogy. Overall, the soundtrack was pretty bland. A Better Beginning is pretty solid as menu music, and I love the ME Theme that pops up at the end, but there should have been more of that throughout. Allusions to the past aren't bad, and shouldn't be hidden Bioware. Halo 4 and 5 did the same thing, and ultimately the music was just bland and lacked the identity of what came before.

I will say this though: Beyond the major songs in ME1, like Vigil, the Main theme, and what not, the overall soundtrack and implementation of the music was pretty weak. In fact, MEA is very similar in that regard, but lacks the standout tracks of ME1.

I don't really remember the music from the original except From the Wreckage and Vigil. So yeah, maybe its just me, but i don't think the trilogy started off that great either. Mass Effect 2 however, that is tough to beat.

I'm reading this and all I can think is, how I can't remember a SINGLE freaking song or melody for this game. I literally cannot. I'm hearing Mass Effect trilogy when ever I try.
I love the game, but this game needed another year of work. EA offered BioWare 5 more months and they turned it down. Looking at risk game it needed anther year to even be on the stage with the Trilogy. Sorry if I ranted, but this sucks, I spent my first play through seeing everything and doing everything I could, we'll it's gonna be pretty boring doing that with no good game music. I'll probably just list5to the Trilogy soundtrack.

The only memorable Andromeda music was that OST in the trailer when the NPC backgrounds were revealed. Forgot what it was called but it was quite lovely.
Other than that, where's the music? If it was subdued, why?

Now that you've listed the stuff... I'm fine with the music in ME:A, I didn't recall that the ME Trilogy has such extremely repetitive stuff. ME:A is mostly ambient, I enjoyed the music in the beginning of the game, and first seeing the Tempest.

I must have been lucky to have music playing in game. I did enjoy the soundtrack very much. However, I found most of it to be generic and not have any memorable hooks or melodies aside from the title menu to differentiate it from most movie soundtracks. I still like to listen to it outside the game though.

I agree, same issue with Dragon Age inquisition. The music is just not there for me. DAI was quiet & ambient during the free-roaming around the world - true, but it also had plenty of strong and memorable themes. Main theme('Dawn will come') being the most obvious one, but I can also think of the Orlesian theme ('Empress of Fire'), ' Journey to Skyhold' and the bard songs (most of which belong to Inon Zurr - Rise, I am the One ). And - the very special OST awesomeness - the music from' Trespasser'. Daamn, that one had blown my heart into pieces, more than the plot-twist itself. MEA has no 'themes' to speak of, unfortunately.

I nearly always turn off the music in games in favour of the sounds and fx, so I haven't heard music past the intro screen.

We have "Vigil", "Spectre Introduction" in ME1; "Suicide Mission", "Normandy Reborn" in ME2; "I Was Lost Without You", "An End Once And For All", "Future for the Krogan" in ME3. These still give me goosebumps and teary eyes after more than 5 years. Yet most of the new songs in ME:A seem so easy to forget. They should have hired the old composers. IMO, some of the songs they used on the gameplay trailer are better than the OST. For example:

To be honest while ME1's soundtrack was still good, it didn't do anything amazing for me.
That said, Suicide Mission is one of the best video game tracks to date. I would say it's my second favourite behind Red Alert's Hell March.
I have to agree that Andromeda's feels a bit meh. Nothing was terrible, but I can't remember anything that stood out either.
