I can't harden Alistair, I just never have the heart. Especially since the scene happens after Goldanna, all I want to do is smother him in love and tell him my Warden cares for him. Just telling him everyone is in it for themselves just doesn't cut it for me. Ugh I think this is why I have the hardest time role playing my characters Lol! The feels, the feels

I like the options with his romance. My first character threw herself at him, then my second was all shy and virginal and waited for him to make the first move. I think I preferred leaving him as a Warden though, if I ever do a canon run I may leave him like that. He's a King in my current run and I don't think the poor pet is very happy about it. Which do you guys prefer? (I have had him as a wandering drunk once, but I flat out refuse to kill him) I`ve played all the 3 choices (not counting killing him, never done it and i think i never will). My favorite, which is my canon, it`s making him king besides my Cousland but i agree that he seems happier as a warden.

The feels, the feels There's a mod where you can harden him a bit more diplomatically, something to the likes of 'You're not idiot, but you've got to learn to stand up for yourself'. But why do that when he's just right the way he is?

Hardened Alistair or unhardened? I`ve only hardened Alistair in the playthroughs where i chose make him solo king or king beside Anora. A romanced Alistair (warden or king) or a warden Alistair is always unhardened.

When I first played Origins, I had no idea he throws himself in front of the archdemon when you romance him. I was planning on sacrificing my own character because the whole OGB business sounded shifty. A friend warned me to save the game right before the OGB ritual so that I could change the outcome in case I didn't like the ending. Why didn't I listen?

The name of the mod is Improved Romance Scenes - Alistair. It does soften the line a lot. Plus it adds other... benefits. I didn't harden Alistair my first time either because that line is just so harsh. Fortunately, my persuasion skill was high enough that I didn't get dumped. Truthfully, my first playthrough I didn't know about changing Alistair.

My first play through of a game is always unspoiled, so I knew nothing. I played a Dalish Elf, didn't harden Alistair. When we got the Landsmeet and you could say the line that you'd rule by his side, I got so excited! I was like "Yeah! I can have this thing!" Because believe me, I hated Anora and the whole trying to get them together was urrrggg. Anyway, then I got my butt dumped. And my Warden didn't even care about the Archdemon anymore at all, she was so raw and hurt. So she would have made a terrible Hero, lol. Then I went on the forums (RIP BSN) and saw what I had to do. After that, it's Cousland Queen all the way. I haven't ever left him a Warden because I think he deserves to sleep in a nice bed and eat nice food after all that PTSD inducing horror we went through. And that beeyotch Anora never becomes Queen ever under any circumstance. Spiteful little spider!

I have never played a Cousland that romances Alistair and becomes Queen, it just felt to Disney Princess for me. Ok Disney Princess covered in the guts of darkspawn, but still disney.

And if I may be so blunt, a Cousland who does that is just using Alistair to ascend to power even though she is aware that he never wanted to be king.

My Cousland wasn't anymore interested in being Royalty than Alistair, but didn't trust Anora. I wanted to make him King but didn't want him to feel like he was alone or would rule alone -- and this is also the only way to marry him when he becomes King. I didn't actually know that Alistair could dump the Warden after she makes him King, so I guess I'm lucky.

Was anyone ever able to get Alistair and Anora to marry? I tried without success I don't know if I did something wrong or the game won't let it happen.

I spared Loghain and then had Alistair and Anora marry. If you want Loghain dead and you still want them to marry, you can't let Alistair be your champion and kill Loghain during the duel at the Landsmeet. You or someone else from your party has to be the one to do it. Anora won't marry her father's killer for obvious reasons.

When I saw her slap away his hand in the ceremony, I reloaded and made him solo king. You need to have a pretty high persuade skill in order to get them to agree to marry.

I did it in 2 playthoughs with my only 2 male wardens . In one Alistair was married to Anora with Loghain dead, in the other one he was married to Anora and Loghain was alive.

Played Origins twice. Was romanced by him the first time with my city elf and they stayed Wardens together. He was lover number .... 6 with my Isabella-esque Cousland. Power focused, vengeance hungry, Alistair hardening Queen of Fereldan. With Zevran as a lover on the side; she never did get around to breaking it off with that Elf after she told Alistair she was all for him. But harm him in any way? Absolutely not. It is my number one rule. I've also told my husband, who is playing Origins the first time, that that is also his number one rule.Ha! That should be everyone's rule. Why didn't I listen? ... Exactly my first playthrough, too! I went into everything blind though, didn't have anyone to warn me. (Although I hang onto to saves anyway.) I even went on to Awakening with Alistair dead... I think I was in shock or denial or something. I felt so miserable. I changed it, of course, but until then... I was an empty husk. Never again. Was anyone ever able to get Alistair and Anora to marry? I tried without success I don't know if I did something wrong or the game won't let it happen. I did once. When I saw her slap away his hand in the ceremony, I reloaded and made him solo king. You need to have a pretty high persuade skill in order to get them to agree to marry. I thought that was mean-spirited but hilarious. I felt so bad for him because it was my decision that put him in that position.

Aww, that's kind of harsh. I don't think so. The way that my Cousland was seeing it was that Ferelden is gonna need a whole lot of work, it's basically jacked up and she knows that she and Alistair can put in the hard work, I mean look at how they just saved friggin' Thedas. And Alistair does become reconciled to becoming king if you harden him, so later in the game I didn't get a feeling from him that he was hating the whole thing at all. And I can see that if you look at it a certain way it could be Disney Princess, but honestly, I think they're both very jacked up after all that. I think it's a tough road for them personally. I just didn't see a need for it to continue to be tough physically (i.e. endless camping foreeeevvvaahhhhh). BW obviously doesn't think it's a picnic either, because my Queen is off doing "cure for the calling" stuff and dealing with the Architect/Mother situation.

There is a marriage ceremony scene between the two? I don't remember this at all... Sounds amusing though. When I first played Origins, I had no idea he throws himself in front of the archdemon when you romance him. I was planning on sacrificing my own character because the whole OGB business sounded shifty. "Maybe he isn't really dead! He probably survived that! They wouldn't leave a central character permanently dead, would they?" Even cheating behind Warden's back with Morrigan to get the OGB would've been forgiven.
