Civilization VI
Playing as America (**hand over heart**) My usual strategy of Holy Site/Campus/Industrial Zone core cities, with two coastal cities equipped with Harbors and Commercial Hubs for funding.
I am interested in forming a trade agreement with England, so I do so.
New York and York have merchants between them, it's a match made in money heaven.
Japan wants to make a Religious Alliance, and being the diplomatic sort, I accept. I see it as the methods of mercy meets the way of the warrior. Cool stuff indeed.
The Los Angeles and Boston Dams are finished, so my Nuclear Plants can run on minimal, saving on valuable resources.
Everything is awesome (everything is cool when you're part of a team); I'm researching the Space projects, my Apostles are welcomed with open arms, and my lands are barbarian-free.
Then Sweden shows up.
Given that I have the only copy of "Pride and Prejudice" in the world, Sweden is a bit miffed that I won't trade a valuable cultural item for 2 gold.
So, being the sensible sort, she declares a Surprise War. Naturally, this causes a cascading effect of the nearby city-states of Hong Kong and Auckland to come under attack from Sweden.
After breaking her armies against my defenses, she asks for peace. However, it seems that other machinations were unfolding while I was preoccupied with protecting my southern borders.
While England and Japan both liked me, they were ambivalent towards each other.
Now, however, it seemed that the veneer of civility between the two island nations was just that.
So in just a few short decades, Kyoto has been blockaded, London (bridge) is falling down, Bradford is occupied, and the "free city" of Osaka has decided to send Tanks to attack everyone.
And by everyone, I mean mostly me. Thankfully my Fighter Jets make short work of the inferior tech. Which of course pisses off England, who tells me that I tread on dangerous waters...
So I'm thinking: Lady, your capital is ON FIRE, you are still in the Industrial Age, I have the ONLY air force on the planet, and am currently building a Spaceport on the free hex by Washington's Holy Site.
Now everyone is denouncing me because I still exist, and while it's a riveting reminder of real-life, I'm having none of it.
I shore up my defenses, basically doubling my standing military. I "purchase" a few Great People using Faith to get the bonuses. Then I prioritize the various spaceship techs.
I may not be able to save the world, but I CAN protect my side of it. At this point, my country is the last bastion of liberty and civility, because everyone is at war with everyone.
I hold the line, finish the Exoplanet Project, and wait.
Victory.

Mordheim: City of the Damned
I decided that there wasn't enough stress in my life, so I went back to Mordheim for some iron man, perma injury, perma death turned based tactical fun. My undead war band consisted of a vampire lord leader, a female vampire thrall and a human dreg as heroes, and one zombie and one ghoul as henchmen. I decided to diversify my gang a bit and hired a necromancer as my third hero and a crypt horror as my impressive warrior. Started a new mission to give the new guys a chance to shine.
The mission was against Witch Hunters. Their impressive warrior, the Executioner, must have spawned suspiciously close to my crypt horror AND it was on top of the initiative order. The first thing I saw was this armoured guy with a massive axe running up to my poor crypt horror and proceeding to slice and dice it like there was no tomorrow. The rest of my team was too far away to help and my big bone munching monster got pounded out of action rather quickly. After that, I didn't see the Executioner again for quite a while, maybe he was having a BBQ somewhere. The rest of my team stuck together, killed a few witch hunter heroes and henchmen and generally collected as much wyrdstone as possible.
After a good round of picking up green unhealthy stuff I headed back for my wagon to dump the loot and maybe start a second round of wyrdstone disposal. Unfortunately the Executioner had grown bored with whatever he had been doing in the meanwhile and came rushing out of a house, beating down my necromancer with just two swings. He also hammered my zombie before my vampire lord finally cut him down for good. Steam achievement popup: "Sole Survivor".... yay?
Then those wonderful moments of waiting until the game told me how badly my downed warriors were hurt. The crypt horror had a dreadful headache and lost a permanent point of alertness, which I thought was acceptable. The zombie was pulp, just after I had spent all that gold to make it learn the shield specialist skill. The necromancer had suffered some skull fracture and brain damage, which wasn't what I was looking for in a caster so we sadly had to part ways too.
Now, a few missions later the vampire lord has reached the maximum level and is a true terror on the battlefield. The crypt horror is getting there, after investing some time and gold into dodging and the death stench skill he's quite tanky and packs quite a punch too. Several zombies were hired and expired, too big boots to fill I guess. And I hired another necromancer. I gave this one a bow as his main weapon. We'll see how long he'll last.

Mordheim is still held by some Skaven in my TW WH2 playthrough. I did try out Kemmler for some Wind of Death fun - quite impressive, but I decided Helstorm Rocket batteries do a much more satisfying job. They're up top rank coming right under the ratling guns. Latest update made some changes to the greenskins, I feel it turned the game into the greentide. Trying to save the dwarves this time and ccut down Grimgor Ironhide.

Ew, Skaven. I'm not surprised, they need the green stuff the most after all. Skaven are probably my last favourite opponent in Mordheim. These fuckers have high initiative and a great movement rate, which means you usually find them by walking down a road, then some furry little bastard comes scuttling out of the shadows and double-stabs one of your heroes. Twice. I have very fond memories of Helstorm Rocket batteries, they greatly helped me win my first Empire campaign.

Skaven make excellent runner teams in Blood Bowl. I'd say even better than Skink teams. Definitely more dirty.

dazk Only did like 6 trials, the ones in the Nora lands and the one with the Carja who just wants you to leave. Did try the ropecaster ones, but was pretty rubbish at them so kinda rage quit there. Also tried the Thunderjaw vs Ravager and it was frustrating enough that I decided to just skip the rest of them. Didn't even try the stealth ones. But on the other hand they made me try out the ropecaster and the sling, and the former ended up being super handy for the rest of the run so. Not all bad. Did give Frozen Wilds another try, but still to darn salty so it didn't last long. Should give it a few days to cool off I guess. Hope your neck gets better soon

On the road again, so my gaming time had gone back to the 3DS (not gonna risk the Switch on the train!) and played some more Story of Seasons:trio of towns. It's sad how the characters all have their cute moments and personalities, but actually no story to tell. Even when the story is there, just waiting to be told. Is truly a big flaw on the genre. Owever. The grumpy doctor is one step to declare himself to my little farmer, and that's cute. I still can't get the best wool from my sheep, I guess I'll have to try a guide. Maybe I'll start a new game on the side.

Hope your neck gets better soon Well you did three more than me so well done!!!! I liked the Ropecaster but I usually couldn't be bothered with it as the bows did a good enough job or I used a DLC weapon that shoots lightning bolts. As Tittus said the DLC also has some great story elements to it that relate to main story and it's worth doing just for that but the NPC's and some of their characters/stories and quests are worth doing because they are so good IMO. Also some of the collectible datapoints are good too, when you do the quest at the dam try and find all the ones relating to to women creating a band they were my favourite in the game. There are a couple of fights near the end though that are pretty tough and would be worth dialing the difficulty down if you don't want any stress. Mainly as you are trapped in an area and there is little cover and the "new" machine you fight is a tough one. Thanks re the neck, it is a nightmare, doctors seemed to have found the right pain meds so it is at least bearable now.

Royal AlchemistI paid $20 for it. I'm like somewhere between 3-4 hours in, and I have not regretted it. I just made the comment to my hubs that I am so invested in training my quote "pokemon boyfriends." IF anything I wish it would slow down a bit. I think it spans 52 weeks, and a lot of things you do take the ENTIRE week. I wish I could do two events per week.

And now looking into where Vinbarr went and the Cavern of Knowledge. Which does seem a little hinky since Doneigarde can only go into, which what's her face isnn't...and we aren't either...yet she is letting us go in there. My, my, how nice of her. The natives are such lovely people with no agenda... Hard to tell what that agenda is some time though. In Greedfall:Ba So De Sardet mentioned to Cera that he was after Vinbarr, not to kill him or anything but she took this...quite unwell. Basically looked me in there, laid a bunch of traps for me, then faught me. And I didn't even get any dialogue to try and convince her that I only meant peace and I didn't mean any harm. The annoying part? For this railroading I lost 3 rep with the natives...which does make me wonder if I missed a way of doing it but I really do not think so. ASo over in the Schmooples thread we have been musing about the freakist scariest monster in gaming and well there was an ironic moment on this. Because...well I think..no it was in the mountain part so the continuity still works. But yeah I bumped into one of Professor' whats his face's and actually bothered to read it this time and it actually mentioned a Nadaig who could fly Which would be a first and it sounded like something I really did not want to face in battle. Well I was musing on it while up there and how this related to the conversation but coincedentally I just happened to look up and there was a giant statue of the thing, towering above me with wings outstretched...and looking very much like Chithulu...well it was a chilling visage that sent electricity through me. Which then brought me to Vinbarr who was holding Constantin. Once again didn't have the option of reasoing with him and he attacked me. Once more again though he referred to Constantin as a death bringer or the like and then said I was blind...but did not elaborate. Which is, descent writing. It does create a mystery about exactly why he feels Constantin is such a threat and leads me to want to find out that information, but on the other hand him doing absolute no elboration basically means he plays the pronoun game. So we fought and he went down quite easily...and then he transformed...and he was quite a bitch to defeat. For the first time actually had to use major health potions. My strategy was pretty much to go and stay at range, which was a bit of a nasty shock when he fired back. In a fun little bit too someone mentioned in here i should not craft too many bullets because it weighs a lot...well yesterday I got up to 108 rounds. I am now down to 67. But seems I should have listened because the game is most certainly not over...though I am going to be having a very interesting conversation with Glendan, since I just killed their High King...Self Defense or no I am not sure they'll be happy with me. Which then brings me to the meat of what I wanted to talk about. I think I am finally starting to come to at least a basic understanding of native religion/ magic. The relationship betwen the Doneigada and the On ol menewi's is...kind of interesting. If I am understanding it right the two are basically bonded and need one another, where the On Ol Menweis basically bonds the doneigada to them/ the island which enables them to transform. And the On Ol Menewi's are bonded to the island. Which brings me back to Catasach and Constantin, because that was apparently his plan. I kind of had a feeling this is what he was up to but it was still shocking that I was right, and to witness the results...Constantin looks a lot more...native...a lot more...well eathy Even a bigger surprise though was the fact that this bonding seemed to cure Constaintin of the Malichor...so despite the game telling me I still need to do a job it looks like I can go home. And yet this does beg a lot more questions then answers and mainly...well what are the consequences of this? And now that we can be bonded and it is proven that you can do that with someone FROM the continent does that mean anyone can undergo the process? Again given there is still a game to play obviously not...but then what are the limitations in making someone an On Ol Menewi? Curioisity abounds.

.well what are the consequences of this? *snort* In Greedfall: So this game took a rather interesting turn. Its answer to the whole High King process was...interesting. Well firstly Glendan was also quite annoyed at me...called it. . But yeah the game had me essentially game the system of their election by...gaming the system. I had to go retrieve the lost crown of the first High King to give it to the person of my choice, killing one of the other candidates when they tried to stop me, and ensure that my guy became high king. Of course I gave it to Duncaas...is there really another option? *chuckles nervously at how good Duncaas appears*. oh speaking of chucking nervously with a good ole 'I'm in Danger' the second that Duncaas had the crown in his possession he said he had to go meet with en on mil frictaman first, which the last time a High King did this the god in question convinced him to kidnap my cousin and threaten to kill him. So I was understadably nervous that despite him claiming that 'unlike some candidates I won't break my promise when I get elected' (ha ha). But no despite this meeting apparently the god of a thousand faces actually wanted to meet little old me after all. And what a meeting it was. You know again despite this game being made at budget there are moments where it is just so well directed, that is the only way I can describe it. The cutscene again where de Sardet cut himself and put his bloody hand on the root which summoned the tree to awaken and he looked up...and then an intruder apparently entered the building which caused the guardians to wake up so we had to get the hell out of dodge. Just very well done. The revelation of what the Malichor is is...interesting. I mean there is acually a much more deeper commentary that I kind of wanted to do here but I think I wills save that closer for the end of the game. Though Mr. En also elaborated on Constantin being a threat but still refused to go into the specifics of exactly what kind of a threat he is or why. Just mentioning that he was blinded by 'foreign intrigues'. Which of course made it incredibly awkward when I had to go report my progress into him when I got back to New Serene. Which led to only the second real Role Playing opprotunity of the entire game...deciding whether or not I should tell Constantin the truth. I actually asked my wife what I should do before doing it but then her and I agreed. After all i didn't think 'Jon' would keep the truth from someone no matter how much I might be tempted.
