Kathy Rain, Director's Cut
Finished the game. Overall, interesting story. There're a couple of questions not answered though. Good VAs and soundtrack.
Black Book
It's about an orphan who was brought up by the village witch, an old man. She was betrothed to a young man who inexplicably committed suicide. Refusing to accept his death, she determined to be become a witch herself, break the seven seals of the Black Book, enter Hell and retrieve the young man's soul.
I think the lore behind the witch etc is based on Russian folklore / mythology.
Voice acting is adequate. Could use a more impressive deeper voice for the Devil and a slightly more mature voice for the female lead.
Gameplay is point and click. Battles are conducted via spells from the Black Book. Graphics are ok.
There're a few possible conclusions possible (about four or five I think), depending on player actions / decisions.
I'm playing on story difficulty since I don't fancy getting stuck by battles; figuring out what spells to use.

Looks like the yupdated NG+ on Midnight Suns in tha tyou ge tt okeep ypour cards now as well as your cosmetics in the original NG+ yo ucould keep the cosmetic stuff but had to rebuild your deck. Now it looks like you'l only lose the cards if you're jus tplaying normal new game. I have noticed it does fee leasier though havin gall your cards from th eoff though. So I don't think I'll b edoin gNG+ all tha toften as hal fthe fun for me is building my deck up using the gamma coils from each of the missions

Immortals of Aveum
I admit, I installed it because I have an EA Play Pro subscription and only to see how FSR3 looks. Verdict - not as good as Frame Generation in motion and it has issues that FG doesn't have. But definitely nice that this tech exists and makes baby steps.
As for the game... Eh... Could have been worse. It starts decent enough, but doesn't seem to pick up the pace. If anything, it slows down and loses some shine. It's supposed to be a shooter with magic weapons and minor RPG elements, plus some environment puzzles. Doesn't really nail any of those, it's quite mediocre in all aspects.
You are an orphan that lives as a street thief in a war-torn magic world. You lose all your friends, suddenly discover that you are a magic savant, join the army and... yawn, come on.
The game is on Unreal Engine 5, but honestly it doesn't really look it. I play on max settings and the visuals don't wow me. The art direction probably has a lot to do with it.

Call of Duty Blackops 3THink I didn't get around to mentioning that i was starting this game last week and had played it and what I did So going to be a bit general at first. So looking for the 'new old ps plus game' to try out led me to a bit of a crossroads. As it somewhat always does. Part of the confusion on this to was looking into it, well what won it out, is the 'player character' just called 'player' is voiced by either the amazing Ben Browder or the known but slightly less liked Abby Brammel who played Tiffy Gierhart on the Unit. Not one of my favorite actresses but hey 'its her'. Meanwhile Ben is definitley one of my favorite actors and I could do nothing but speak his praises and to play him in a role, and funilly he definitley provided the face model is a treat. First person shooter but the voice and cutscenes are still there. So getting a big kick. Part of the issue kind of a mandated stupidity on my part but some confusion was whether it was for Black Ops 4, which I knew I picked up through the subscription, and Black Ops 3...which I did not. Alas I discovered that I had Black Ops 3 in the list so conflict resolved. The story is actually...interesting. Call of Duty tends to get a bad wrap I guess and for some of it is a good reason but for a lot of the games I played of the franchise...aside from WW II which just seemed to be garbage gameplay wise...it actually at least tries to tell a somewhat interesting story, at least for what it is and in the context of military/ military shooters. Even checking into it someone apparently agrees with me enough because the game's writer actually was nominated for an award so there is that as well. Still at the risk of being a little on the preachy it takes place far in the future where environmental catastraophes have started to wreck the world, so far especially, Singapore. This part of the story has little commentary other then being there to let the devs do interesting things with gameplay. No commentaries on the evils of evil specifically. However the antagonistic faction is actually getting a lot of play in this and there is something vaguely uncomfortable with fighting them given some of what they have happened to them. Meanwhile other elements of the antagonistic factions do leave them deeply sympathetic for reasons that came to a head more as I played last night. So as we began last night we are playing as a CIA Black Ops unit going around the world and doing...things typical of Black Ops. Nominally to solve issues and put out fires before they actually start behind the scenes, in actuality tend to just make a bit of a mess. In the course of these activities though we find out that John Taylor and his team full of very familiar actors (both Taylor is familiar and his female soldier is played by Katee Sackhoff) has gone rogue and basically brutalized an entire CIA safehouse, or something, and is responsible for leaking classified intelligence to the other antagonist faction in Singapore at the time. Our current handler, goes to tell us to go investigate his last assignment to see if there are any clues as to the reasons why. And well, this level is pretty excellent in a lot of ways. Very much a horror aestitic because you have to go in a sink hole a mile under the ground so its dark, strobe and inconsistent lighting...and robots have gone mad down there and are beserk charging you, sometimes out of the dark and poor lighting conditions. Anyways in the end we discover that said robots are being controlled by one of Taylor's team...and the CIA is responsible for human experimentation with this cybernetic technology we all have embedded in our skulls that gives us our advantage a bit on the early side. The visuals are properly horrific and I know I am skipping over details here but yes, we were recruited by Taylor to have cybernetics jacked into us to save our life after a mission goes wrong, then we discover the CIA wasn't entirely above board about this, Taylor goes rogue. The weird part is that they also blame this experimentation on a disaster that has effected Singapore, it gives the 54 imortals (bad guys in Singapore) their motivation and sympathy factor, but unless I missed something the writer(s) completly skipped over how the disaster resulted from the human experimentation and it seems to be a leap of logic...yet the game has now told us twice that it is the case. Anyways though armed with this information and the knowelge of where CIA safehouses are located around the globe 54i goes to the local one where our handler...Kate I think...is hold up. Hendricks who is very pissed at the situation and at CIA duplicity, and sympathetic to Taylor, wants to leave her there and get out of dodge because he does not trust her. Kate does not want to be saved and advises us to get out of dodge as well. Captain America Ben Browder is like 'no we be saving you because of personal loyalty and I don't think she knows about the human experimentation either'. Logic I also buy because if she was in on it why would she send us to follow in Taylor's footsteps and risk us turning as well? I mean there could still be there, but for the moment it would be a leap given how she is acting. Anyways though 54i is super pissed at things and is burning anyone they can get their hands on in a mass invasion of Singapore proper. So yeah, while they have a definite axe to grind they are also still the bad guys. We fight through an insane amoutn of robots and 54 I and mechs to reach Kate, burn the leader of the 54 i killing her once and for all, and we get Kate out. If there is one flaw in this game for a gameplay perspective they definitley love shoving massive amounts of enemies at you. Fallout New VegasFunny how much I had such a big conversation on the evils of all the various organizations and individuals in the Mojave because today really drove home that point. So first off I continued on with the mission of helping AMbassador Croeker and the NCR negotiate an end to the conflict with the Kings and Freeside. Noble intentions but A. Croeker lets me know that right now given the impasse the NCR has ordered me to go in and kill the King and implicate others if they can. He tells me to try another alternate solution. I'm supposed to go to COlonel Moore at Hoover Dam but he tells me that Colonel Hsu could have an peaceful alternative. Obviously I go for the peaceful solution and even keeping this in mind...when I finally do get back to the King I find NCR SOLDIERS IN THE ROOM. WHich he is definitley pissed by. And I am pissed by too because this is not the way you make friends though keeping in mind the orders of the NCR they were probably there to kill him. So the NCR looses a lot of points here and despite armed invaders in his home and the potential for hurt feelings the King shows a lot of credit when he still accepts the deal. Pacer however is less then enthused and he starts a coup. Given that I think since I used a shotgun I might've hit the King with the spread...and killed him...I decided to reload the save and try again. And it was funny because given the companion bug I was all like 'hey Rex buddy!' when I saw him and re recruited him but then had to reload so I was like 'hey buddy!' less enthusiastically. Still equipped the .44 magnum just in case and only fired on Pacer if he fired on me. He did, and the King survived. Meanwhile turning the Platinum Chip to Mr. House reveals a lot of problems. The main one being that I believe very much in a division in society between 'military' and 'police' functions and the situation here exactly sets up that problem. Sure there can be a gray area here but the securitrons go from a policemen set up, with less powerful weapons, to a soldier set up with nothing but explosives...primed for collateral damage. Its also highly amusing to me that he called himself an 'autocrat' I think a word I have used to describe him myself. But he does have a sympathetic point when he brings up the whole issue of 'look out the window if you want to see the fate of democracies'. He is right, democracies can be quite tyrannical to, just look at the NCR. The other issue I have is he does paint a pretty picture of launching colony ships into the stars in a hundred years and using Vegas to restore the promise of humanity, he also mentions that he cares nothing to trample on individual freedoms or to dictate what people do in their 'private time'. But the issue is that is a lot of room for interpretation. Sure if the man is a great industrialist like Henry Ford he might stick to an eight hour shift and people will have plenty of time...but no gurantee. The implication being is that he cares greatly about what happens on company time, and what happens if he mandates that you work like a 12 hour shift to help speed his vision along? And since he is part autocrat and robot what does he care about personal liberties sure, but what does he care about the work life balance? Meanwhile he orders me to go off and blow up the Brotherhood of Steel, I point out this could be a problem, he laughs and tells me that I'm an idiot for falling for their faux nobility...and he is kind of right the Brotherhood of Steel always has a interesting opinion in my heart. But the big problem with the logic is...well...I have this girl named Veronica in my party, whom I like a great deal, who might be a little put off if I blow up the BoS. Either way its off to go help the Brotherhood deal with their issues as I continue to muse who I side with. But both House and the NCR have lost significant points with me personally, but then have to try and keep in mind...what would Raylan do? Since this is an RPG? I also found it super amusing that in this part to now Veronica is having us look into a reason to convince McNamara to change his mind which presents its own problems. But she name drops Father Elijah...and I CAN'T MENTION THAT I MET AND KILLED THE MAN AND HE WAS SUCH A DICK. Ugh. Nevertheless we are off to hunt down leads to tech. One involving Vault 22, one Helios, and one Nellis. Since Vault 22 involved crazy mutated plants I am weary about going and using said research though there is a possibility that it could be used benignly, the Helios One thing already didn't pan out, so its off to Nellis. At least in the short term. Meanwhile while I'm not sure how good of a person McNamara is also not sure I like how his compeitition is trying to go and get power away from him, something slimey about the whole affair so the next couple of days might lead to a lot of interesting decisions. Also gotta start thinking about doing another DLC soon. Decisions. Decisions.

Oh first off a little note I have been following a recent curious story within the game industry which might have had some effect on me and its the first time, that I am aware, that such a thing has happened to me. Marvel's Avengers has actually been delisted from digital storefronts. Now for various reasons its...well Avengers was a bit of a weird game for me because I did enjoy a lot of elements of it and I loved beying Hawkeye, the combat, even the story had its moments just that A. the bit in the Wakanda Forever trailer torpedoed any forward progress I would make in the game...and the problem I have with these extremely going in hard on the live service/ MP elements is that they have very little replay value for various reasons. So I am unlikely to continue my PT or start it over from the beginning so if I do lose access to it, well I got my 31 hours into it, I got my money's worth out of it, so I wouldn't be dissapointed. But the prospect of losing access to it is more alarming because of a trend and its the whole reason I am leary about losing physical access to this media, especially games. Long story short though I checked and I can still download it. I haven't so I have no idea if the servers are still active so I have to assume they are but yes...this is the whole reason why I am leary about digital only game media. And the whole theory does stand up since the two biggest examples of this I can see happening to, Anthem and Avengers, I don't think I'd mind it happening to. But Ghost Recon Breakpoint? Wildlands? That would be a lot harder of a pill to swallow.
Call of Duty Black Ops 3
I did forget to mention in the acolades section that the music in this game also has its moments. This track in particular has rave reviews from me and my wife:
And the music is done by one Jack Wall of ME 3 fame. ANd at least imo...it sounds very Mass Effect 3 so I think we've discovered Jack Wall's fingerprints. Not my fav composer of all time...but he is certainly a good composer.
Anyways onto the gameplay from today.
It was confirmed that this game isn't just going to take place in Singapore as we move onto Cairo to head off Taylor as he continues to look for the people associated to the CIA Black Project. Honestly this element of the plot continues to annoy me because, its weird, I get it, human experimentation bad...forced human experimentation even worse, and if it led to the disaster I am sympathetic to the raction of the 54i...but it just feels like oddly enough that a lot of this is telling us and not showing us. Like we've seen it but they are just hammering the point home so often that it is just like...there is a slight disconnect there, for me.
The doctor we find in Cairo is played by Tony Amendola, of Stargate, Jedi Fallen Order, and Continiuum fame. Another great character actor I guess and love him in most of what he is in so always welcome seeing him. And the two bits of this part of the game really come to fruition. Number 1 the enemies of the CIA and John Taylor are homing in on said Doctor and well they actually get him. But the enemy faction in Cairo, I want to call them the NCR but that's not it, has a lot of forces. This really feels like a final stand type of mission because there were that many forces yikes. And Hendricks continues to act very squirley and just pissed at the world, the CIA, and the Black Project. For good reason but it is kind of remidning me of, oddly enough, a bit more of a better twist...again my opinion...on the Solo Wing Pixie plot from Ace Combat 0. Like this enemy to friends thing just Solo Wing's motivation felt a little laughable at the time I played it, not properly set up, and I think AC0s narrative was a bit heavy handed...then again I was a teenager so we'll see if I manage to play it again what I'd think today. The point is I am really getting concerned that Hendricks is going to turn. ANd much like the dichtonomy with the 54i it could be painful since his motivations are perfectly understandable however the actions of John Taylor and all the organizations he is allying with to make the CIA face justice for what they did are doing their own attrocities in vengence. Which does tend to make for potentially interesting and nuanced story telling because the bad guys are jerks...but they also have a point so its really uncomfortable to fight them. This is basically Ben Browder's point though he has a lot less qualms in game about fighting the bad guys then I do. (again getting a huge kick about playing a video game with Ben in it, please BioWare find a way to hire the man). He is like 'yeah they are dicks, they leaked intelligence to America's enemies, they must be stopped.' Nice and to the point and on some level he is right.
All this comes to a head when Ben reveals he had Salim (Tony Amendola) tagged with a tracker which pisses Hendricks off because he feels like Kane/ CIA lady and Ben is working together and keeping him out of the loop. Ben justifies it that he has been acting squirley, he is, and once again he grabs at his head/ neck which I am making the slight assumption that is where his DNI is which has some...interesting implications. And since we haven't seen the DNIs able to hijack individual people. The soldiers have their own will, Taylor's co and his betrayal proves that as does the time when Hendricks went to privacy mode.
Couple of quick notes it was apparently Kane, not Kate, and this level did have one of the worse turret sections I've experiened in a game.

Baldurs Gate 3
I'm well into my second playthrough with my Dark Urge character Suri Mena. SHe is resisting the urge and tries to be a good person. She is in act 2 now and doing well. So far, she saved Isobel and the tiefling and gnome prisoners and found Arabella and sadly her dead parents in teh House of Healing.
She did all the sidequests and will go to the Gauntlet of Shar to free the Nightsong, hoping for Shadowhearts support. She already did finish the Gith creche with Lae'zel and helped her see, how toxic Vlaakith really is.
Suri did get rid of her dark tattoo, since she doesn't think, it fits her anymore

Fallout New Vegas
Well this is frustrating, and tedious.
Tracking the lead down on the Pulse Gun...I had to steal from the Boomer swhich was...very annoying that the quest demands I do that. Found a key and information on where it was. And it was in Vault 34, the Vault the boomers left. Makes sense. Except the Vault is nothing like what I was expecting given its back story, which does raise some questions on things, but the reactor cracked for the thing and the Vault is constantly irradiating you and filled with Ghouls *thumbs up* So there is a very much ticking clock non ticking clock.
Which combined with my potential idiocy for such things turns out, according to the Wiki, that the solution to this quest is rather convoluted in how you get to the final quest objective in there. The armory. The trouble is there really is no indication of any of this, that I have yet found, in the game. It just brings you to a locked door so presumably some way to unlock it...but does not tell you no quest objectives. You have to find dead Vault Dwellers with pass word codes in the middle of flooded areas of the vault. It does not tell you this that I found and no updated objectives. Sure I'm an idiot about such things but with the constant near panic over the ticking clock it does encourage you to go in and out. They are sadists.
Worse still I think its confirmed, even though the quest is still available, since I deleted the data for the Vegetation that screwed me out of taking that option. I mean good thing all things considered but this is literally my only option in how to advance Veronica's personal quest. Oh joys.

Recentl ybought an extrenal SSD so ma ytry installing a couple of games on that rather than try removing anything. No tsure how well it will work thoug has an extra game drive but going to give a shot. It's a nice siz ethough given it's 2TB so it's definitel ybig enough. It's jus ta question of whether th egames will load from it and how fast really. But it migh thelp wit hal l th eumninstaslling erinstalling al lthe time. Thinkin gof maybe puttin gthe Witcher gamesor maybe AC Oddysey or Forspoken when I want to play the DLC on it. I'm no tgoing t od oanything just yet as I'm a little bored o fFifa for now so will be sticking with games I'v ego tinstalled fo rthe moment. But when I d ofee lread yt opla ysom emoe rFifa I might try installing a game or 2 and try it out.
Edit. Apologies fo rth eearlier double pos tthis site's been giving me a lot of trouble lately

At this rate all future Bioware games will be half done and modders need to rescue it for free.

Black Book
Gameplay / combat is a bit repetitive. The protag is currently in the process of opening the second seal of the book and this involves getting some items which occurs over three days. Each day is the same pattern; go to X place, explore all the other areas open during her travels. Exploration of these secondary places is very simple; a narrator explains what is happening. Sometimes she'll fight demons, sometimes there're decisions to make which could add or remove her sins and sometimes she'll come across peddlers. I figure how much sins she has is going to be a factor in the last stretch of the game.
As a witch she inherited her grandfather's minions. If she doesn't send these minions on tasks, they will trouble her instead. I intend to play a good witch so I didn't send them out each day. Thus far, nothing is happening to her.
I'm also playing
AC Black Flag
Surprisingly, for a much older game, the game can stutter slightly. Movement is a bit clunky.
Parkour can be annoying. As usual. When I'm in a big hurry to chase after a courier, sometimes the protag ended up not climbing but took cover instead.
Kind of dumb that he can't crouch at will. Oh well.

Never had any stutter issues, definitely lots of weird physics issues though. I thought the Parkour was quite good in this game, AC3 was a big improvement I thought Black Flag improved it again and Unity perfected it. It is hard though going back to those older games and their game mechanics. My equal favourite AC game with Odyssey.

I let Legion upload the code, and the Quarians were all killed by the enhanced Geth. Then just before this screenshot I got a Paragon prompt (which I took) Shepard reached down to try and grab Tali, but failed. I just wondered what the Paragon prompt was for. Is there a way to let the Quarians die, and prevent Tali's suicide? i.imgur.com/a51FxKH.jpg

AC Black Flag
Well the game CTD twice. I think I'm going to have to pull down some of the graphics.
The latest CTD is when I'm supposed to go to an island for repairs etc. The problem with this game is that it doesn't give the info so after a search through controls / key bindings, I looked at the screen and figure I've to press left mouse when the icon on the bottom right change to anchor. Then a fight broke out and it's at this point the game crashed.
Ran a search to find out what's the problem and apparently it's still an on-going problem. It's definitely not my PC hardware because I was playing Deliver Us Mars recently and that game drives hard because of the stupid Denuvo (go figure why the indie devs wanted Denuvo)

Very few CTD's that I remember.

Fallout New Vegas
*sigh* Sometimes its amazing that I love video games so much and they are my favorite past time when I am so bad at them, especially these older games I guess, games that don't hand hold you. *sigh*.
Granted my complaint about it not being clear on the directions does still stay true...but the door that I needed to find, well the first one at least, marked utility. All I had to do was just look around a little and turn left with the armory. It even makes some sense in hindsight. But yeah, my brain went 'oooh armory' every frigging time and I missed it. To add insult to injury after having to back track through to the Overseer's office I completley forgot where the armory itself was with the long arse hallway.
And then it glitched out when I brought the Elder the pulse gun so had to reload. Cool. And well since I read it no real surprise but the Elder decided to not change course despite saying that he knew it was going to lead to their death. Which does not lend himself too much credit to beign the leader though I have to wonder if the other guy would do anything different based on A. video game reasons or B. and well I do get the feeling, well just because he might want to return to the Brotherhood being more aggressive that does not imply he'd support recruiting more people and being more helpful. But this does beg a few questions if that is the case what that would make for the order. And well the temptation to metagame was rearing its head and I hoped I made an Rp appropriate choice since I read it...but I think so since despite seeing it she ended up in a less then ideal place. But I almost wanted to encourage to leave simply to get her out of dodge in case I have to destroy them for the ending. So there is that. Bit surprised the NCR doesen't have anything more for me. But despite that I told her it was her choice, which pretty sure she'd choose to stay, but like that is a fairly normal response here. Surprising though given how she was talking. But normal.
