Yay microtransactions! Probably. I didn't watch the video because I find that kid annoying. But, honestly, AC games have had microtransactions of some form or another at least as far back as AC IV and it's never impacted the game for me in any way. I never buy them. Ever. Especially given that it's an offline experience this time around. Which why would you spend money just to make the game quicker?

If they wanted to incorporate a form of gambling, which is what loot boxes are, it'd be better integrated in a minigame. That video isn't conclusive but it's pretty convincing for me. These systems are there to compel players to use real money. Ubi's games are riddled with this and it just results in bad design.

Like I said, they've done it for years. It's there for people who want to find stuff faster/level quicker or have powerful whatever starting out. It's never had an effect on the game itself and I've never used them. The in game experience is fine for me w/o the stuff and I never miss it. *shrug*

Isn't every corpse a 'random loot box' anyway?
I can see nothing here to suggest these are sold for Helix, real money or whatever, outside of in-game Drachma.
We'll know in 2.5 weeks, but this doesn't look like an 'evacuation alarm' to me.

This business model is not good. It's not an alarm, but it's a drag on otherwise good design. Just like For Honor.

I'd say 'I won't use them so I don't care' but that's probably the kind of thinking that makes developers think this is okay in the first place, so no. They shouldn't be there and if they are I'd be disappointed. All they've ever boiled down to in AC is 'buy this to play less of our game' which...should never be a thing.

On those 'Heka Chests'... This is a Reddit post that appears to have some insight into it: "This has been blown totally out of proportion all over the internet (no surprise there) so I wanted to try and clear this up. In the Nomad's Bazaar, which can be accessible by visiting Reda the traveling mechant boy, you can purchase an item known as a "Heka Chest".
As you can see, you can buy it for 3000 drachma and it gives you a random weapon or shield on purchasing it. However, this is clearly not the same thing as the "loot-boxes" people are associating with micro-transactions, for example like in Shadow of War. You know how when you find a chest in the world and you open it for random loot? This is the exact same thing. So why is the merchant charging you 3000 coins for it? Because he is the equivalent of a grave robber, and has found the chest on his travels, so he is charging you for the ease of access of getting a good weapon/shield on the spot without having to go out, explore and try to find one of them yourself. That's literally it. Sorry, I had to rant about this because from what I've seen people think this will have something to do with buying real-world money, and that Ubisoft are literally the Devil incarnate"https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/74u8r6/the_heka_chest_has_nothing_to_do_with/

So given the apparent freedom in our loadout this time around, what weapons are you all thinking of kitting Bayek out with?
I'm thinking spears, because polearms are so underappreciated in video games.

Oh, don't tell me... the later AC games start messing with inventory, gear and crafting too? That plague hit them as well? Awww... it was so liberating in AC the First not to worry about it. So, which game the micromanagement starts at? Is Ezio free from having to mend his own cloak?

So, which game the micromanagement starts at? Is Ezio free from having to mend his own cloak? I played AC2 ages ago, but I seem to recall that there is a simple inventory system. There’s no looting, though, and I don’t remember any crafting. You just buy armor for extra hit points or weapons for more damage and/or attack speed and the like. Pretty straightforward.

(Sigh) I wish they did not mess with things that work. Well, at least this means I won't be suffering "oh, but I want it sooooo badly" with the Origins and can wait for it to come on sale. I should not have bought the French Revolution title (kicks herself in the head).

It's usually less of an inventory system and more of just an upgrade system. The customization is a good thing tbh.

I was perfectly happy with how AC1 did it & do not need anything extra to spend my time f***g around with, and having to look up stuff on the internet, instead of playing. If they decided to borrow from RPGs, I wish they borrowed thing I like, creating your own lead, not the theory crafting and inventory management. It's like crossing the tomato with potato to get tomato roots and potato tops...

Up until Origins (perhaps), the drive to craft isn't that great.

Up until Origins (perhaps), the drive to craft isn't that great. I'll see when I get there. I can do it when pressed, but I am not overjoyed by the prospect. And I am going to be pressed, for certain, because the game does not have a difficulty setting, so you cannot mitigate for not crafting by dropping it to "easy". You have to stay "updated" to get on with the mission difficulty. That loses the franchise a huge boon it had for me in the first game that was free of the looting, shopping, collection, storage and crafting addendums and focused entirely on the action side.

So, which game the micromanagement starts at? Is Ezio free from having to mend his own cloak? I'm quite sure that it starts with either AC2: Brotherhood or AC2: Revelations. In AC2 you can (need) only buy new weapons. By AC3-4 you can upgrade your ship and village with the resources collected. In AC2:B-4 some sort of online resource-gathering thing appears, if I'm not mistaken. Edit. Counter-attack is OP (you need just to stand still and wait for opponents to kill themselves against you) in almost all parts of the series, so the difficulty is rather low.

Inventory starts in ACII. It's very basic/simple. Armor/Weapons/Supplies/Items/Outfits/Trade Objects. Outfits are unlocked from playing previous games and such, trade objects can be traded at the armor/weapon shops to get better equipment. It has a very easy "star" rating so you can compare to what you're wearing. There is no crafting until Revelations and that's just for making bombs. Which I hated You can craft items for your armor that increase your health and the like. Unity you just buy your armor. And even though I played the shit out of Syndicate I can't remember if there is crafting or not. I don't think so? As far as dragging this IP, I hope it sticks around for a bit longer. I love it oodles.

Pretty stoked about the boss and horde modes. Those have to be a first in the series. Giant bosses and free DLC sound good to me. And there's even a lore-based explanation for this - Animus glitches. Though, I guess, if AC ended after AC3 and a new series began, it would be better.
