Finally a lady as a mentor. Motherly figures are very rare in games. And it's Shohreh Aghdashloo I'll be honest, that makes it more likely that I'll eventually get the game. She's awesome. I'm conflicted because I like Shohreh Aghdashloo, she's a lovely actress and VA, but I'm not going to like Basim experiencing the last stretch of Eivor's life; sneering, sly, etc. Listening to him, the rotten villain. I hope at least the devs will follow the way of the other ACs, they never show the protag's death. At least, in their own titles. I'm not getting this one right off the bat though. I'll put the last Valhalla chapter on the back burner for much much later. If there's a sale months down the road, I'll get it then.

Now that I've read the rest of that, at the risk of looking like an idiot, none of what they said about Infinity makes any sense. For the most part, Infinity will an Animus-skinned launcher/hub for AC games going forward, starting with RED & HEXE. The modern-day events will no longer play out in the games themselves, but in the Infinity hub itself. Which makes it a bit more than just a launcher. We're not sure how they're going to present those events to the player, but it sounds like it may be just simple texts/emails/cinematics to start. Perhaps evolving into something more down the line. But as a player, you can ignore these modern-day bits, and go straight to the games if you wanted. And the games will now be presented to you as Animus memories you can access in the Infinity hub. As more games are added, Infinity essentially becomes AC central.

I am still of the mindset I won't be getting Mirage, but if I do it won't be for at least six months for then the game normally hits a minimum of 50% off.

"So we're moving to longer dev cycles to make them more sustainable from a human and technological point of view, so that we can truly build on the shoulders of one another and then support our games for a longer period of time."
Thank fucking god. This is the right move. Overall I'm happy about their direction. It's good to mix things up and put out smaller titles, ones that are more like the original games, while still having the occasional epic RPG. I'm also content with all the new settings. They have a lot of potential. And MP too, with the right care, could be a lot of fun. The only thing I don't like is playing as Basim in Mirage, but I might just suck it up anyway. Having that game returning to their roots will be interesting.

After watching the entire segment I get the feeling they have decided not to learn from what created the situation around Assassin's Creed: Unity. They have announced three mainline AC titles, a mobile game, a final DLC for Valhalla, and a new launcher specifically for AC. The push for a major release every year just had a degrade in quality to the point Unity released in a state they abandoned it faster then BioWare did Andromeda. Yes I had the same thought, they bit way too much of with Unity and it sounds like they are doing the same now but it does appear that they are staggering this rather than trying to rush it all out the door in one hit.

New Assassin's Creed Mirage Story and Gameplay Details Revealedgamerant.com/assassins-creed-mirage-story-gameplay-stealth-parkour/gamerant.com/assassins-creed-mirage-no-modern-present-day-gameplay/- It is set in 861 AD Baghdad. It is a narrative action adventure, with a structure similar to the first game. This means that the core gameplay focus on stealth, parkour, and assassinations. - He is brought into the Hidden Ones and trained by his mentor and a former Persian slave, Roshan (played by Shohreh Aghdashloo). Basim is plagued with nightmares and visions, and it seems he hopes to find answers to them within the organization. Boudon describes their relationship as a "classic mentor-student relationship," but it does seem Basim likes to play it a little fast and loose sometimes, while Roshan is more stringent. - The core gameplay loop here involves identifying guards and/or targets, eliminating those necessary, and vanishing. Ubisoft Bordeaux reworked the detection system to enhance this loop, with there being various archetypes for guards, with there being clear communication as to what guards are alerted, and so on. Players will go through various, recognizable phases like a warning phase, a search state, and then open conflict. There is also a Wanted system that could see crowds turn against the player, meaning players will need to be cognizant about their activities. - Players, like in the past few entries, also have an Eagle companion. Basim's is named Enkidu, but one major difference is that it's not as "infallible" as past games; Archers, for example, can shoot down an eagle if players do not eliminate them first. - All the animations are new to emphasize Basim's skills, while new elements of parkour like pole-vaulting are introduced. Players are able to set off traps and knock over scaffolding to create even more distance, and there are also tools like smoke bombs and other gadgets to take advantage of. - Combat-wise, Boudon said the fighting mechanics were more akin to Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, but there are new distinctive elements too. Assassin's Focus is one of those, and it's perhaps most comparable to Red Dead's Dead Eye. When used, Basim is so proficient that he eliminates many targets quickly, which manifests in-game by slowing down time and allowing players to pick their targets. - The Animus still plays a role, particularly in the beginning and the end, but there is no present-day gameplay whatsoever.

I'm also looking forward to wrapping up Valhalla. Not-so-keen on Basim's voiceover during it, but it is interesting to see that leaving is Eivor's choice and not being forced out as some wondered might happen. Eivor's supposed to visit some of his allies from the main storyline, but I'm worried I won't remember half of them. Mirage... maybe when it goes on sale. And only if it gets good reviews. I have a feeling it's going to come across as a "filler" game, just to have something between Valhalla and RED. I'm glad to see Infinity didn't turn out to be an MMO or some other big MP game as some of the rumors were suggesting. It's basically just a launcher for the upcoming games. Definitely looking forward to RED and seeing how HEXE will be different from the other games. And that they're both SP games... No real interest in the standalone MP game. I'd only have a look if turns out spectacularly.

I saw that RED would be an RPG but is it going to be a proper game like the latest games, I was confused as I thought they referenced it being a "future" game and took that to mean it would be one of the modern day Infinity games but may have misunderstood. No interest in MP, my only dabble other than compulsory Unity stuff was doing some MEA MP but it really isn't something I am drawn to. Yes glad to hear that Eivor is not being forced to leave and that it is her choice, will we finally get NG+ that'd be great before the Last Chapter so yes I could refresh my memory on old allies etc.

They cleared that up at one point, saying that all their games will be set in the past, and only the "Infinity" hub/launcher will have the modern-day meta-story. RED will be another giant "historic" RPG like the last three.

I’m very excited for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. I don’t like the fact that Basim is the main character, but beggars can’t be choosers. I’m part of the fandom that’s been begging Ubisoft to at least give us one more old school Assassin’s Creed game, and it looks like we are getting that with Mirage. If it’s really successful they might give us another one. I’m also excited for Assassin’s Creed Red as well Feudal Japan been the setting I wanted the most for the past ten years, and we’re finally getting it. Looks like Ubisoft is trying to make the older and newer fans both happy.

I think it's coincidental that they're launch dates appear to be back to back. They're just projections, and my guess would be that the games (Red and Hexe) will be separated by two years. From the looks of it, these games are getting 4 years worth of development time.

It's so interesting seeing everyone's opinion here (about Mirage) stand in such a stark contrast to sentiments I've seen elsewhere. Other online communities are excited for Mirage simply because they feel it's a return to form and might not be as bloated as Valhalla (or even Odyssey).

The forum dedicated to an RPG developer likes the more RPG-ish Assassin's Creed titles. News at 11:00 I haven't played any AC game since the third one, but I like that Ubisoft has recently returned to premodern times—there was a period when the franchise was stuck in the 18th-19th centuries. With the newer games I'm always a little tempted to go back to the series, and Mirage, Red, and Hexe all seem to have really cool settings.

It's so interesting seeing everyone's opinion here (about Mirage) stand in such a stark contrast to sentiments I've seen elsewhere. Other online communities are excited for Mirage simply because they feel it's a return to form and might not be as bloated as Valhalla (or even Odyssey). Speaking for myself mechanics can be found anywhere, its the story that is important. So the announcement of Basim being the protagonist makes the story seem a lot less interesting. If it was an unknown protagonist then I could see myself being a lot more interested because I wouldn't already have expectations of the story since this is pretty much a prequel which normally in any medium is also hard sell for me.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Has Been Rated Adults Only By The ESRB For "Real Gambling"www.thegamer.com/assassins-creed-mirage-ao-adults-only-rating-esrb-gambling/Assassin's Creed Mirage has been rated AO for Adults Only by the ESRB due to it containing "real gambling". This implies that it'll feature lootboxes of some kind and also makes it the first game developed by Ubisoft to receive such a high age rating.
By "real gambling", the ESRB means in-game virtual gambling that you can spend real-world money on. The official descriptor for the content warning on the ESRB states that it is when a "player can gamble, including betting or wagering real cash or currency". Comparatively, simulated gambling is where a "player can gamble without betting or wagering real cash or currency".
Again, it's not confirmed that the reason for the Adults Only rating is specifically for gambling, but considering every other Assassin's Creed has been M for Mature and had all the same content warnings except for gambling, it seems likely that's the case.NOTE: It seems that the report by the original source might be misleading or incomplete. The supposed rating appeared on the Xbox website (https://xbox.com/en-us/games/store/assassins-creed-mirage/9n4096hx1wwq) but the ESRB website does not have a rating for Mirage yet. - So, hopefully this is just an error. We'll just have to keep an eye out for now... [/s] - Now that I've had a chance to think about, I have a feeling that this "mistake" was done deliberately to gauge public reation and score some data off of it.

Several of us have expressed interest in a return to the old style of game. We just don't like Basim.

It won't be AO, for AO is death for most stores won't sell an AO game. Its probably someone upset at the Ubisoft store and just want to generate some negative press to Ubisoft. Also reading the ESRB description for "Real Gambling" its definitely fake in my eyes, for its about gambling for money and not lootboxes so the online poker sites would be AO for Gambling. Late Edit: I took a look at the ESRB's website and found that lootboxes would be under "In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items)" and would be at the bottom of the label instead of being to the right of the rating. They classify it as an Interactive Element and it doesn't impact the rating the game gets.
