I don't really have a problem with the more fantasy elements in Origins and Odyssey, primarily because they took place in eras where magic, gods, and mythical realms were held with high respect as if they were real. The inclusion of Field of Reeds and fighting that giant snake was the result of a hallucinogenic mixture anyway. Honestly, in a world where pre-cursor artifacts can control minds and other crazy stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if these Pieces of Eden ended up playing a part in inspiring Greek myths in Odyssey. I’m guessing you haven’t played “Curse of the Pharaohs”. Bayek does a lot more than have that recurring bad dream with Apep and Khemu. CotP is honestly my favorite part of the entire game. That said, both the historical and mythological aspects could be expanded in more productive ways by not “fantasizing” Assassin’s Creed. A non-GoW/Kratos mythological IP could be fun. Ubi builds beautiful worlds, and the Egyptian realms of the dead were really impressive. (They featured the ubiquitous Ubi-style viewpoints and icons, of course, but still.) Sadly, the necessity of acknowledging the real world in which AC takes place somewhat undermined some otherwise impactful encounters in “the afterlife”. You’re right about the PoE. They were at the heart of CotP, and it’s already confirmed that the same is true in regard to “Medusa”. One of the devs (sorry, not in a position to cite a source) confirmed that any mythological elements in Odyssey will be tied to Isu sites and artifacts.

Targeted framerate 30 FPS? No, no, no, no, no, that is so last year (or console peasantry)
Although I did slug it out in ACO with about 40-45 average FPS most of the time, that was on 1080p Ultra, old CPU and a monitor that capped at 60hz. Then I got myself a new monitor and right now I feel spoiled by the joys of 100+ FPS and 1440p. After the recent upgrades I am above even the 4k requirements. Ubisoft better make sure I can hit stable 60+ FPS (here's hoping for 90+) on 1440p High-Ultra or it will be nerd rage I tell you Even with G-sync on 30 FPS now feel like moving in jelly. Maybe I shouldn't have upgraded and enjoyed my ignorant bliss.

If they can make a game in which Bayek wears crazy outfits, rides impossible steeds, and enters the realms of the dead, they can produce a game with speculative history from these more ancient times. Ditto for our new "Spartan Kicking" (ugh), super-hero protagonist in Odyssey. Completely original, entirely speculative stories set in truly ancient timeframes are still more immersive for me, assuming a certain style of presentation, than a Spartan mysthios kicking grown men 50m. I'd gladly take entirely fictional, yet plausibly told stories over ridiculously fantastical versions of actual people and events. The difference in tone is the key for me. Oh, well. I think they've chosen their path for now, and likely won't change unless reacting to poor sales of one future game or another. I haven't played Origins yet, but isn't Layla's Animus supposed to be a modded Abstergo console?
Why not establish that rather than cobble together one from scratch, it's easier to MacGyver Abstergo's "console" versions of the Animus to once again function as a DNA reader. The drawback is that despite their best efforts, the modern Assasins can't remove all of the console programming, meaning that sometimes unrealistic, anachronistic and fantastical elements crop up in an Animus session.
Could even make it a plot point about how these glitches make any intel from the Animus suspect, because they don't know whether any "gameplay" elements are interfering with the accuracy of the memories they're viewing. Maybe even have our modern-day protagonists question whether they should even use it anymore, after (nearly) losing people due to faulty intel?

Thanks for sharing the video, I hadn't had a chance to watch it yet.
I've spent 3 days trying to decide if I should buy deluxe or gold. I will probably go with gold simply because I think I'll save about 10ish bucks on dlc if it follows Origins prices for dlc.

Preorders are cancer, I will never ever preorder again!
(reads reviews) Protagonist choice, dialogue choice, choices matter, regions react to choices... No, my will is strong, I can resist! (reads further) Spartan kick, combat revised to use more counters... (resistance debuff 50 ℅)
I am still strong, I will not preorder! Let's just check the preorder bonuses and have a laugh how they bait weak willed fools. Deluxe gear, ha, such poor effort. Season pass, hmm, nice to have, but nothing special. Extra mission... grr, very nice try, almost got me there. Play early...play early...play early (resistance debuff 100 %)..gaaaaaaaah, I hate you, Ubi! Here, take my money for your stupid Gold. And know that the very first thing I will do in your stupid game is kick myself off a cliff with my Spartan kick!

Okay, so I've tried a few times to order AC Odyssey but when I get to the final step the box to check for the sales agreement or whatever is in german? Even though I have english selected and my address is very obviously in the US. Anyone else have this issue? It's never done this to me before. I have never checked to agree to something in a language I can't read. I even went on their website and it did the same thing there. Just curious if anyone else had come across this. Needless to say, I didn't order.

Actually, that's the interesting thing. How not-guided will Exploration Mode be? Will it be something like the map is blank and it only fills up if you explore mindlessly. Will there be no quest markers for quest objectives? Since I assume this is the mode Ubisoft is really pushing to play, I don't think they're going to make us totally blind. I'm heavily betting that this will be a case of fill the map as you explore.

Not like Baldur's Gate etc where the map was black and only revealed when you actually travel through it.

dazk Thanks for the answer, i tweeted at support but I've heard nothing back. So, maybe I'll just go ahead and order. *shrug* Andrew Waples I am on PC as well I am guessing that exploration means that in addition to the map being fogged over there are not question marks for available quests and points of interest, correct? I will probably give that a try my first time through and see how it goes

Exploration mode works by giving you a general region on the map for your objectives and then you can use the bird to pinpoint. Once you use the bird it becomes a bit of a moot point anyway, but it still might make the game feel more organic. stevivor.com/news/assassins-creed-odyssey-guided-exploration-modes-detailed/@kaidan Fan Kosta My purchase waver was in German as well when I preordered. I wouldn't worry about it. Unless we find out later it involves a blood sacrifice or a first child.

This will be the first assassin's Creed I'll play in years, since assassin's Creed 2. I just didn't like how identical it was to the first, then I just heard "copy and paste" for the rest till origins came out but I still had no interest, sith Odyssey they have a Greek theme (I love ancient Greece history 👍) and I'm hearing it's going into more of an RPG route over action (which does get away from what assassin's Creed is/was but screw it, I was never invested in the franchise but I might if this game plays great).

I like how a lot of people are saying Odyssey will feature the origins of the Templars considering that the main character has a Piece of Eden. I don't know if that's going to be the case especially considering how you can make your character rebellious or loyal to order or something like that. It would be interesting to see how the villains in Odyssey probably make way to the Order of the Ancients (the proto-Templars) in Origins, but I don't know if they're going to commit to having Alexios or Kassandra be a founding member of the Templars.
If anything, I would actually be perfectly okay if the main character was not connected to the Assassin's or Templars. I know some fans will say that "that doesn't make it Assassin's Creed if the main character isn't a Templar or Assassin," but I think having a character that's not affiliated with either would be refreshingly different and interesting to see, especially since it's an RPG where you can make your character be whatever.
If Origins presented the origins of the Assassin Brotherhood, I'd like to see a game that properly showcases the origins of the Templars. Maybe a prequel to the first Assassin's Creed game that takes place during one of the Crusades or somewhere after the Fall of the Roman Empire. Or how about a game that takes place in Mesopotamia about the first ever assassinations.
