I hereby want to put forward my reasons for Bioware to retain Pathfinder Ryder as protagonist for Mass Effect's next installement.
The popular reception and commercial succes of the Mass Effect trilogy has demonstrated what the benefits of a continuous protgonist for a series can be. Mass Effect mangement to accomplish a sense of attachment to the characters and the world in a way no other video game series has achieved before. The fact that relationships and decisions would carry over from installement to the next added to the commitment of players to their protagonist. The culmination of said relationships in Mass Effect 3 would not have been possible without the setup in the earlier games.
With Pathfinder Ryder we have only just begun to scratch the surface of his/her journey, moreover, we have been introduced to a great cast of new side characters that yet to reach their full potential, there's an entire galaxy full of oppertunities left to explore. Regardless of people's opinions of Mass Effect: Andromeda, we must recognize that starting over once again is a less than ideal option. A sequel outside the Andromeda galaxy would face all the challenges that his game went and render the game inconsequential as a result. Any potential sequel that takes place in Andromeda should have Pathfinder Ryder as it's lead character, they have been our conduit into the universe for one game allready. everything we've experienced so far has been through their eyes and through their actions.
Taking away Ryder would not just result in losing the character itself, it would also nullify all the build up relationships so far and any sense of achievement the player might have. While they may still get to see decisions carry over, it is the personal connection of het player to narrative that has gotten Mass Effect it's critical acclaim and popularity, without a continuous protagonist in place that sense of connection and commitment to the world will largely be lost.
Above all, Ryder and his companions deserve the same chance that Shepard his team got to develop, the career of the ME1 characters wasn't cut short after one game, they went on and succesfully managed to put their stamp on the world of video games. Therefore, it is in Mass Effect's best interests' that Pathfinder Ryder will remain the protagonist for the next game of the franchise.

+1 DAI would have been better with sarcastic Hawke. I really like the Inquisitor, but I love Hawke. Having her return would have been pretty stellar. But I'd be pretty disappointed if Izzy didn't come along as well, or worse, was at the Conclave… Anyhoo, +1 to the OP. I've grown quite fond of Ryder and would love for her (or him) to return.

It depends not only where but when the next game takes place. I personally would like to see a generation pass or so which gives the inititative time to grow and establish a real infrastructure in Helius before the next game. Doing so though would mean the next game should have a different protagonist as Ryder would be in their 50s or so.

Yeah, I think they kinda wasted his potential in this game but he deserves a second chance, especially if they ramp up the stakes and his personal stake in it, like if they continue the Family Mystery plot in that obvious way in which it would induce a motivation for him to do whatever he needs to do.
Also, the way I want Andromeda 2 to open is a close-up shot on the Tempest where Ryder wakes up in his bed, it cuts to his LI lying before him but then there's a fittingly dark undertone to the sign of the scourge outside the window, just to signify that act 2 of the plot will be emotional, touching and personal but there's also some bad shit that's going to happen somehow.
If you think about it Star Wars A New Hope is also kinda generic next to Episode 5 and 6. It has an epic ending, sure (just like Andromeda), but there's a lot of filler-esque stuff in it and The Empire Strikes Back is also kinda optimistic until things start going wrong. This also reminds me of an analogy I recently used in a comment for what I'm looking for in a BioWare romance. I want to be Han Solo and Leia. In love and it's all romantic and cute but they're both stuck in an epic drama where the danger eventually takes them apart in the middle act which really hurts until you reunite for good in the ending. I really like the buildup of romances in BioWare games but they need to do something plot-related with them dammit! The closest I've gotten to this was Alpha Protocol or KOTOR 2. KOTOR 2 was especially impressive when you romance a certain woman who you've promised to train and it flashbacks to your ominous companion Kreia as she whispers "betrayal...".
Cute romance -> Dramatic romance -> Conclusion for Romance = best romance

My problem is that I don't see the fan's reaction to the whole "all your choices matter" debacle again. I hated and still hate the endless whinnying entitled hardcore gamers/trolls bitching about how a stupid unimportant decision made in game 1 that they thought would be important was in reality not important at all in games 2 and/or 3, or how "the outcomes weren't exactly how I wanted and now I shall use my fanfiction mod to make that way" and bitch about on it endlessly on Youtube. Now that is the kind of entitled hardcore gamer/troll bullshit that I can very easily live without.

to give my own ideas one more plug, there's also another reason why having Ryder back would be good: The dialogue system evolves as Ryder matures. Emotional becomes Empathetic Logical becomes Rational Snarky becomes Levity (less wiseass and more like cracking a joke to lighten the mood in a series moment) Professional becomes Efficient He goes from Sonic The Hedgehog to James Bond

I agree that it makes the most sense for Ryder to remain as the protagonist, and really, some or most members of the crew (Cora, Liam, Peebee) show real growth and maturation by tale's end. This isn't to suggest the others don't - but by the end I really wanted Drack to just be given a nice retirement/ride off into the sunset, I felt like Vetra mostly did what she needed, and Jaal seemed to come into his own but had really achieved all he needed to achieve. All that being said, I loved how this group really became a crew by the end.
To me it makes the most sense for a sequel to continue with Ryder and at least a few of the original squad/crew if not all, as this journey really only gets to the point where the crew is a genuine crew near the very end. I loved ME2, but one gripe I had with it was the disruption and dissolution of the original crew. More so than ME1, the Tempest crew really feels like a family or Star Trek style crew. I'd hate to see that abandoned and started again next time - we just got to know them. Certainly more characters could (and should, presumably Hanar or Elcor) be added to the crew.
In the end, with all its warts, I think Andromeda serves as a lovely foundation for a new series of games, but only if this crew, this family remains the focus. If Dragon Age showed me anything, it's that I can enjoy a one-off just fine, but I don't feel the same investment or attachment - I loved the Warden, was meh on Hawke, and saw a great deal of potential in the Inquisitor, but I never grew as connected to them or Ferelden as I did to Mass Effect's characters and worlds.
Example: from time to time I still slip in to thinking about ME1-3 characters "Why was Jack such a fun character despite being so odd? Will Garrus's face heal? Why did the Reapers care so little about the casualties they sustained attacking the Turians? No seriously, if those ships are literal amalgamations of entire races, the Turians could have wiped out entire "nations" worth of beings, but the Reapers just kept going." Whereas with Dragon Age I honestly know more about the voice actors than characters beyond the big ones. It's choppy because the DA series is choppy; I still like the games, but they don't stick with me like ME. I'd really love if Andromeda became a series about Ryder and his/her crew, and I'll be genuinely disappointed (and honestly, reluctant to purchase another standalone Bioware game) if it does not.

*Except for if Bioware makes a largest-DLC-ever to expand and conclude Ryder story/focus.
*Bioware has my permission to explore other options as well, like duo-protag and whatever.

I think I might prefer someone new. Ryder is just so... bland. I was disappointed we couldn't choose their Pre-Service History and Physiological Profile like we could with Shepard. Ryder family didn't interest me much at all and didn't seem to go anywhere. Being a Pathfinder was far cry from being a Spectre. Setting up outposts, playing a diplomat and giving inspirational speeches... nah. Enough of that already. I would prefer a fresh start. Far away from the Initiative. Maybe our next protagonist could be one of the exiles.

While I liked the new youthful and hopeful tone they gave to Andromeda and how it was expressed via the Ryders, having them grow up and mature while giving us control (up to a point, like always) on how they do so would not only be a great gaming experience, but would make this first game all the more meaningful in retrospect. So yes, agreed OP.

Not done with the game yet, but the only reason why I think the next game should forego Ryder is if they decide to make the next game take place in the milky way so they can alternate between each galaxy, Call of Duty style.
