Just to restate, that panel was for speakers from different companies, it wasn't a 'BioWare panel' as such. The Romance panel was full.
I have no problem with 'progressive' if I can have choices. Progressive not preachy? Even better.

<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> From Bio. " Games are finally starting to reflect their diverse players with more types of characters, scenarios, and approaches to gameplay. Whether it’s writing a one-eyed pansexual bull and his trans lieutenant; featuring non-white main characters; showcasing the female option in marketing; creating an entire cast caught in a web of gender, sexuality, and ability; acquiring unusual indie titles; or keeping the conversation going; it’s crucial. Hear from those who did it and how they’ll do it again."
I'm more interested in a solid engaging and fun game than looking forwards to meeting a pansexual or trans characacter in that game. Geeesh! The studio has their priorities mixed up. The above quote seems "preachy" to me in light of this last statement: "...or keeping the conversation going; it’s crucial. Hear from those who did it and how they’ll do it again." Rather than making an excellent game, it seems that Bioware's primary goal now is more a of a political message to provide inclusiveness and make Bioware games more than just "Bro" games. I believe it is possible for Bioware to make an excellent game that is also inclusive, but I wonder if Bioware is putting the cart before the horse. To me, Bioware seems more proud of the inclusiveness of DAI, rather than the quality of the game itself. I wonder whether Bioware wants to make MEA a great game with inclusiveness, given that at least one of the MEA writers seems like he might be more concerned with preaching progressive politics than making a good game. Hopefully, Bioware will strive to make MEA, DA4 and the New IP as great games with inclusiveness, rather than have inclusiveness be the primary goal.

Guys not everything has to be about us straight dudes, it's not the end of the world if they give one panel about diversity.

r Guys not everything has to be about us straight dudes, it's not the end of the world if they give one panel about diversity. It isn't just one panel. They literally won't shut up about it. And listening to it is like when someone quits smoking and suddenly gets preachy about not smoking, as if their shit never stunk. That's Bioware to me. A bunch of mostly 40 something white guys who have some newfound view of diversity. I am a racial minority myself and I'm sick of it. And I live it. Weekes in particular annoys me though because he used to post at Somethingawful and acted like a typical dude there at times. He wasn't some standard bearer for feminism. He objectified some even. I could dig up posts, but one that sticks out is when the Sin City movie came out.. and Jessica Alba had an interview at the time where she said she didn't want to be a sex object. Weekes had joined in with everyone else and ridiculed her as nothing more than a sex object. Funnily enough, she's now one of the richest female entrepreneurs in the world (albeit with some current controversy apparently). This is coming from a guy who says now he doesn't want to get in the way of a woman's "dreams". But my main point is they need to talk about games. It's even worse when they talk about this other stuff and it's coming from hypocrites and people who don't live any of the experiences they're talking about.

Meh, that shit eats itself dude. You become too preachy, everybody just avoids you at parties, nobody upon nobody wants to talk with you, etc. It'll happen with BioWare too, I promise.

I guess you had spend your last 5 years in some kind of cryo-pod? Let me bring you up to speed then. They had raised their rainbow banner since DA2 (which is 6 years ago), and they carried it on with ME3 (which is 4 years ago) to add more of it with DAI (which is 2 years ago).
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for inclusiveness, but at some point their preaching gets old. And yes - that's what they do. Or at least that's how plenty of people percieve it, which basically makes it the same thing.
It's fun to see how they chalk their own old games off, by the way. Like KOTOR with Juhani and JE with Sky and Silk Fox. Those games are 11-12 years old, and yet they put Bull, Dorian or Crem as 'top-notch revolutionary' characters? One would think that 10 years of game-writing is long enough to speak for itself.

It isn't just one panel. They literally won't shut up about it. ... I would suggest that it is some of us, that won't shut up about it BioWare participated in a packed panel with speakers from a number of games companies. I've seen no more promotion from BioWare about that panel attendance compared to other panels, and their main promotion on Twitter has been of the BioWare Base N7 recruitment, the signing sessions and the writing reviews. In terms of preachiness, Cortez and Dorian were a huge deal to the gaming press. When a little appropriate inclusivity is the norm, these matters will be less of a deal and less of a topic (they will probably also be better written).

There was also a big Mass Effect panel at Salt Lake Comic Con last week. I say "big," but about 600 Mass Effect fans were there. It was just to celebrate 10 years of Mass Effect and share theories of Andromeda. No official Bioware people, just authors. But it was a hell of a lot of fun. I wonder if I can find the panel on youtube somewhere.

I sort of have to agree with a few previous posts. I have no problem with inclusiveness and welcome the fact that Bioware have included examples in their previous games. My concern now is that it is starting to get 'preachy' on their part.
As part of a larger game with rich dialogue, deep characters and interesting lore, then it's great. When it starts to become a major selling point I become concerned.

Self-aggrandising filler of the highest order just what good people paid good money to go see. Gold star BioWare, now given how totally progressive you are... why don't you let your employees unionize and publish your employment statistics for the whole world to see just how progressive you really are? Maybe then i'll believe you not that I care.

I'm unpinning this thread because the title 'All the information from Pax West' was a little over-optimistic It would be more accurate to say there was 'no information from Pax West' (probably as expected). We'll do this again for the next conventions: - Edmonton Expo, September 23 – 25 (Edmonton, duh)
- GaymerX , September 30 – October 2 (Santa Clara, CA)

Over-optimistic indeed. I tried googling for bioware pax west 2016 and came up with absolutely nothing. If they were there, they were stealthy as ninjas. Zero exposure. Probably for the best, I don't think I would have appreciated Bioware opinions if those sessions were recorded and put on youtube.
