Despite the flaws of the Prequels, it launched a lot of content during it's time.
Fans were talking about Star Wars again, got all sorts of novels, TV shows, comics, video games (Kotor anyone?), and merchandise.
I can watch the films since I'm a huge fan, but realize that they aren't anywhere near as good as the OT.
People question Mass Effect's future a lot, but I feel that the discussion itself will be healthy for the series.
Mass Effect has the benefit of not having George Lucas in charge, so I'm not exactly worried.

Probably, though I always thought of Mass Effect as the Star Trek of video games. I'd say a more apt analogy would be the comparison between pre JJ Abrams Star Trek and post. There was a video I watched awhile ago about the endings of ME3, and the guy brought that up. ME is basically science talk like Star Trek due to its nature of explaining everything. That's true, but I was thinking they were similar because they both deal with moral and social issues through the lens of sci-fi story telling. One of MEA's problems is that let this aspect of Mass Effect go to a large degree the same way JJ Trek did. |

I think a lot of the letdown with ME:A is that you can see how it had the systems and framework to be a great game, but the characters and story were so uninspired.
