So I am on record of hating on the game, but I also I want to encourage things I think shows promise or trend I like, so here goes:
1. Family member for PC. I liked it in DAII and I liked it here. 2. Aya, it's a really well designed place, architecturally speaking. 3. Scanner. I like the concept of the scanner, not necessarily it's implentation. I wish it would function like a tricorder, and more things become scannable. Locking it to research was stupid, it should be its own thing. 4. The flying creature in havarl. More wildlife like that please. 5. Jump jet 6. FTL travel screen. Looks like warp speed, I like it.

I liked the game overall despite all the flaws.
Loved the combat. Enjoyed the visual design of certain planets (Kadara, Havari and Meridian). Drack surprised me pleasantly. Raeka is a good Salarian. Bradley comments on your N7 armor. Certain side quests. Fighting an Architect for the first time was great. encountering a vault for the first time was cool. having both protagonists in the story, instead of one disappearing by choosing the other, which is not new for the industry of course but still cool.

I agree with all of the above, and I generally liked the game, despite my griping over dialogue and plot holes. In addition:
1. The final mission. BioWare clearly took the feedback from ME3's ending and implemented it, to great effect. Now give me an entire game with that. 2. Pacing re unlocking dialogue/banter and general amount of dialogue (and number of people who give non-quest dialogue, too!) that changes or is unlocked as you complete missions. 3. Jaal's romance. 4. The cohesion between the open world and the story, and the way that the game gives gentle guidance as to which order to do things. I never felt overwhelmed by the open world and sheer number of quests, but I also never felt like the story restricted the way that I interacted with it. I have yet to see another game achieve this.

... Bradley comments on your N7 armor. ... He does? That's awesome! Definitely want to see more of this kind of NPC reaction to the player; you can never have too much of that if you're trying to make an immersive experience.

I like the game but not enough to defend it with any more effort than I am in this post.
Theres a great foundation to work from and I hope the guys behind Andromeda get a chance to have another shot at it.
This would be a tough pill to swallow with the brands reputation being what it is but now they get a good look at it with new perspective. They have an understanding of just how big a shadow Shepard casts and what it will take to live up to that.
The glass is half full of the stuff that goes into the thing that the stuff goes in. We just gotta get our Shepard shuffle on.

3. Scanner. I like the concept of the scanner,
I much preferred the scanner in this game, than the scanning mechanics of Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
In those two games scanning was not only annoying, but you had to spam it 24/7.
In this game, they warn you if you are near the item. And if you like scanning, you can also see the targets at an incredible distance. So scanning is very fast.
The sound effects for scanning are also very well done.

I agree that scanning is a mixed bag, with the good points you mention above, but with a slightly clunky interface. It gets the job done just fine, and isn't a nuisance like I'd feared in the early going. I would like to see it redesigned, though. I had just completed Horizon: Zero Dawn in the weeks before MEA. The spherical, all-encompassing scan feature of Aloy's focus was so easy to use and effective. I really hope that BioWare steals this type of design for the next game. It was infinitely more enjoyable to use, and wasn't at all clunky. SAM is telling me whether or not adjoining rooms are occupied, at times; so clearly one does not need to point the scanner directly at an area in order for SAM to gather data. Update the omnitool, BioWare. I think you can be a bit more imaginative with its uses. The point-and-scan feature feels like wired headsets and breather hoses in SW. It's cringy, in that it lacks foresight or imagination. At the very least, a scanning radius, rather than a scanning beam, makes gameplay more smooth.

I disagree with the idea that the "tension" in the last section of the main, "critical" patch should be extended to the whole of the main plot. I think that, given the lighter, more relaxed pace of most of the game, the amount of escalating urgency in the final bits hit the right note for a proper crescendo. My main issue with the original trilogy was that we have 3 games of OH MY GOD WE NEED TO STOP THE REAPERS OR WE'RE GONNA DIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it all fell flat at the end 'cause there was nowhere to go with ramping things up. This is why, aside from many other issues, Priority: Earth was such a let down, in my opinion.
That being said, I have a few issues with how the main parts of the critical path felt a little too story/gameplay segregated from the rest of the game. Setting up the outposts and all of the issues involved are a part of the main story of the game, but the Archon/Meridian part felt just a little too separate. Tighten that up for MEA2 and it'll be damn near perfect, in my opinion.
To get back on the "official" topic of this thread:
I really enjoyed that most of the quests (I haven't done everything yet) either tied into the main narrative (not necessarily the plot, but the theme of the game) through world building or tying into other quests at various points. Things had a fairly organic way of moving from one bit of side content to the next, and the top three categories of quests "Priority, Allies, and Assignments" were all very good in my opinion, all tying into or supporting the main story.

I really can't say enough good things about the combat and the skill trees. It's deeper and more fun that it's ever been in the series, they really took the best bits from ME1 and ME3 and mashed them together to something that's for a lack of a better word, fucking amazeballs. There are so many builds and combinations to come up with and so many attractive skills and passives to tinker with. Nothing really sticks out as completely useless or OP either which is a Bioware first, it's rather well balanced.
I also like Ryder and how you start at the bottom. I really didn't think the new protag could live up to Shepard but i think they have, in their own way. Even the corny casual responses are growing on me. Also the sibling is a huge bonus, i just wish they were around more often.
Then there's little things i always wanted in the trilogy like chucking people/things around with biotics, pistols/SMG's not all occupying the same russian doll holster and that you can choose to have a first name that the NPC's use.

Yeah I can't get enough of this game's combat. The high mobility and plethora of skills you can sample is really satisfying. While the 3 slot thing is not exactly ideal, it does cater to my trigger happy multiplayer mode that I've been neck deep in for the past couple of years.
After trying it on for size, I actually really like the first name being used. It makes conversations sound so much more natural.

Unfortunately nothing of that makes a good game, however well implemented those features might be. If there is no interesting relatable protagonist and characters, that player can care about, good dialogues and interesting storiy, then no amount of bells and whistles will help, which is exactly why Andromeda ended up being such a huge failure it is, and a shame on a history of Bioware RPGs. Interestingly enough, the opposite is not true - it is totally possible to overlook lackluster bells and whistles and even lack of polish, if things mentioned before - characters, dialogues, story etc. are of high quality and can captivate a player. Aside from previous BW games, Game of Thrones rpg (2012) illustrates that point well - a terribly flawed low budget game, with a very long wind up time, but if you endured until the second half part, then all the flaws suddenly become secondary and irrelevant thanks to how captivating story and characters get.

Actually I'd have loved it if your character truly did start from the bottom. Ryder wasn't really starting from the bottom, he was a member of the Pathfinder team, combat trained, and the Hyperion Pathfinders' son to boot - isn't he second in command or some such?
Would be very interesting to have literally played some kind of total nobody, freshly awakened from cryo - a janitor, lowly technician or cook, and then watched as they rose through the ranks, learning combat skills, and gaining insights as you played.
Sadly, I suspect that few people would enjoy this except me - I've always loved the idea of your character being utterly 'crap' and unskilled when starting a new game, and working your way up; but I think most people prefer to start with reasonably strong characters.

Bioware has shown that sometime they over corrects for things. Most of the individual pieces are either fine or passable, but put together in this game in the way they did made for an overall disappointment. I just don't want them to blame it one this feature or another. It's an easy way to assign blame on an unpopular aspect of the game and move on, but the issue I think occurred at a higher level of design, starting with the writing.
A lot of the things people gripe on (open world, scanning, tasks etc) would have been ignored or appreciate if they are integrated better.

Perhaps it should take a 1/4 or 1/3 of the game for Ryder to take over

There is one very amazing thing about Andromeda: It might have had a Edge of Tomorrow reference with "You have a whole in your Ark" during Cora's mission.

This thread isn't about claiming that MEA is a good game, it is pointing out some positives with optimism towards future installments in the Andromeda galaxy. I understand you're very disappointed in the characters and writing, but what about the environments or the combat? Those of us who truly enjoy playing MEA and defend it still acknowledge it's not a perfect game and has shortcomings like way too many uninteresting fetch quests and numerous bugs and glitches. Would it kill you to acknowledge MEA has some positives too or is your glass really that empty?

It is my impression that Cora is second in command of the pathfinder team. Young Ryder is a recon specialist with minimal alliance military training and spent time "on a peacekeeping force" and "guarding a mass effect relay" and his/her combat experience was mostly against a few raiding parties. Compared to most of the pathfinder team young Ryder is pretty much a still wet behind the ears rookie. All members of the pathfinder team have a SAM implant, except Daddy Ryder does some mojo to remove blocks in young Ryder's implant that gives young Ryder some enhancements, which is kind of explained in SAM node early in the game.

* the combat is good. It's enjoyable.
* while they implement new biotic powers which are interesting, they should keep the power effects and sounds of biotic combos the same. I find the sound rather lame, without that satisfying boom of ME3. Too, I find myself flatfooted to see Ketts simply doing a little hop to dodge a throw. Seriously? Half the joy is directing biotic powers, especially pull / throw from certain angles. Done right, one can have a lot of laughs watching a mob zoom up into the air like a rocket while yelling helplessly.
* jet pack is fun
* nomad handles good
* interesting alien lifeform; space whale. They should have more, really strange / outlandish creatures.
* varied planetary environments, beautifully rendered
