it's always struck me as fascinating. People call DA I 'wide as an ocean deep as a puddle' when i find it a perfect example of how the witcher handles its darker subject matter. It just shoves crap after crap after more crap with crap on top and crap on the side...but it's rare that Geralt could actually do anything about it. The world of the witcher was so evil and so depraved that i was half tempted to leave it to the white frost and not look back. That isn't deep it's not even mature and it isn't even realistic. No matter how many whores and mad kings there are. Whereas Andromeda actually brings up many of these issues and even a few never touched by the witcher. Is it always perfect? No. But when Ryder messes up i feel it because in Andromeda there are sometimes ideal solutions. When Geralt messed up i shrugged my shoulders. Real world is a scary place, just like the Witcher. I'd thank BioWare for BG2 - still my favorite game, up there with Civ IV. yes but we can do something about it in real life.

Really? Like alcohol and domestic abuse, which was considered one of the best? Racism? Just because The Witcher has no PoC it has other races. Euthenasia? ( or however that's spelled). The no fairy tale representation of Mislav? Or he does not count because.... no bigots allowed? Speaking of bigotry in a weird way, let us talk about the real and visible treatment of mages.Hello Miss Metz, did your teleport go wrong and literally skewered your arse on that pole? Gender issues? Hello Yonna!! Jealousy/unrequieted love? Hello that biatch in Skellige who cursed the man's kid to get back at him. That's just to name a few. But I guess I could find these things better in Andromeda with much much more depth than what the witcher has managed? I have to look around more then because I have not seen anything noteworthy so far after 43 hrs. But I will thank Bioware for Jaal, the combat and the gorgeous world they made for me to explore. Those, I really love. it's always struck me as fascinating. People call DA I 'wide as an ocean deep as a puddle' when i find it a perfect example of how the witcher handles its darker subject matter. It just shoves crap after crap after more crap with crap on top and crap on the side...but it's rare that Geralt could actually do anything about it. Sometimes I feel that the Witcher just often put up darkness for the sake of darkness.

I'm not arguing that TW3 wasn't a great game....but it WAS a game that I just never liked.

Agreed. And also from me a big THANK YOU Bioware not to do a Sci Fi Witcher. So refreshing. BTW and forgive my curiousity - since I read that so oftern, why is Witcher considered a mature game? It's considered a mature game because it doesn't sugar coat it's content for the safe space snowflakes out there. Because just like in real life, things aren't black and white, and you can't always get a happy ending. Whatever you do, bad things will happen, people will be mean and racist to you, you will observe sexist and cruel behavior. Sometimes you can stop it, sometimes you can't. I think there are 2 major types of players who go through that game. The do gooders who want to do "everything right" which mostly translates to kill everyone who did a bad thing in front of them. Which in turn makes the game one dimensional to them. The more mature players understand that killing the "bad guy" isn't always the right solution. That sometimes you need to not stick your damn nose into someone else business and you have bigger concerns. I think most Bioware players are of the first type, simply because lately Bioware offers less and less depth in terms of choices. Andromeda has almost none of them, it asks you no hard questions and all choices are the right choices, you always win. It's a game made to make you feel good, but they simply went too far. When you do that right off the bat, instantly the stakes are lost. ME1 had this looming threat that became more and more scarier the more you uncovered it and supposedly that should have been the Kett in Andromeda, but because the game has already taught the player that he is just gonna jump in guns blazing, jokes flowing and win, it's hard to get us to care. W3 and Andromeda are incomparable games even on a base roleplaying level. 95% of all dialogue in Andromeda is a different shade of "Yes". Us or for you to care. Because I cared for the characters and the game did have some shades of grey to them.

But Geralt doesn't even really try. You can't make geralt even care. And that's all i like. Characters who try. Plus i don't find darkness for the sake of darkness compelling. Coupled with a weak main antagonist(s) are my two main complaints about the Witcher 3. Honestly if the whole game was like Blood and Wine i would have liked it a lot more it may have even challenged inquisition. That's the kind of balance I'm looking for in my stories.

The DLC's in the Witcher 3 were way better in story and balance than the base game. hearts of stone was alright. But it gave us Gaunter frickin O'Dimm probably the best antagonist that has ever grappled with a player character in history of games. And blood and Wine was just stellar. Honestly i blame the White Frost for most of witcher 3s weaknesses. They were forced into writing it and thus it made the bad guys in the game that much weaker.

And if you read the books, The Wild Hunt was a warped shell of what it had been. People shit on Andromeda and Inquisition for weak antagonists, but they were leagues better than the vanilla TW3 antagonists. And I think both Inquisition and Andromeda were laying the foundation for antagonists that look to be complex, piwerful, and truly threatening. All while making sure it isn't black and white villain is evil to be destroyed. Especially for the future of DA.

It's less a one time revelation and more of the accumulation of knowledge. There is an air of mystery similar to the Reapers, but I don't feel the motivation will end up as stupid.

I'd thank BioWare for BG2 - still my favorite game, up there with Civ IV. I can appreciate when some games are like that and can manage to make the world feel rich, but I wouldn't want them all to be like that. That's why I prefer to just have both this and something that borders on the idyllic.

My favourite thing about this game besides the biotic combat, is the end credit song, and Jaal. That's about it. It's definately no Witcher 3, not even Fallout 4. What sucks is that I actually anticipated this title and thought i'd be playing it for months, and I pretty much beat it the same week of purchase and haven't picked it up since. So disapointed. A "happy" game, that's bad doesn't make it better than a dark game that's good lol. It's more disapointing because as several reviewers have stated you DO at some points start to see a flicker, just a flicker of a good game, but it's never realized. I think this game left a more sour taste in my mouth than the ME3 ending.

Apparently not. Supposedly they spent a year trying and failed.

To be fair, failing and deciding something doesn't work are not necessarily the same thing.

Popping in after a nuaseating disappointment just to thank Bioware again.... the one long running franchise out of 4 that was fun, emotional, and everything I wanted. Thank you for getting it right where Nintendo, Atlus, and Namco failed... or I'd far more pissed and depressed at only failure from previously loved franchises.

Basically the greatest game of the past decade from a critical standpoint? Atlus's Persona 5? Highest rated PS4 game this year? One of the highest rated JRPG's (by critic and user scores) of all time? Namco's Dark Souls 3? The game whose combat is a revelation for the entire videogaming genre? Curious what you think failed from those devs...

I know you aren't the one that brought up DSIII, but just need to point out it wasn't released this year. I was talking about the Tales of Franchise. As for Zelda... it wasn't a Zelda game in design and the open world mechanics were either outdated or from Minecraft. Poor writing and a bland world killed any chance the game had with me. And just got through more of my second run and Andromeda is just continuing to delight. Made a few new choices and the changes off those were nice too see. Also trying a Suvi romance and she is aforable...

Don't really like reviews as I keep saying but some games can be inflated huge fans of franchises He's a clickbatey kinda reviewer though - kind of like the videogame version of Armond White (just not as bad). It's the best reviewed game in the past - like, 20 years though - I don't think you can really say its a bad game with a straight face, even if it's not your thing. As for JRPG's - I guess they can be an acquired taste, but Persona is probably the closest thing to Mass Effect with its focus on building relationships with your squad. Wasn't a fan of Dark Souls either, but almost every RPG is trying to copy its combat/realism.
