Just looking at a couple twitch streams and reviews it was painfully apparent they had no idea what the hell they were doing or talking about.
Silly things like people comparing Flamethrower and Incinerate saying they are identical abilities.
tl;dr reviewers have been terrible and biased since forever, nothing new.

To me it was quite shocking how useless Totalbiscuit's review of the multiplayer was (yes, he doesn't call it review, just sounds like a cop-out to me):
-nothing about the connectivity issues
-nothing about crashes
-no word on the horrendous weapon balance
-no mention of the lackluster powers and overly long cooldowns
-no mention of BS sync-kills
-...
And TB is supposed to be one of the better, more respectable reviewers?

TB has never hid the fact all he cares about is mechanical "fun" and a satisfying gameplay loop. He's also never hid the fact he plays games for very short periods of time and then does other stuff. You'll recall he's on EA's blacklist for not playing ball on marketing, so he didn't get super pre-access.
If you care about nuance or plot or "deep controls" TB is not even the kind of guy to be watching.

They're just opinions. They don't claim to be experts. You have to look at multiple reviews and form your opinion based on that. I did not care that MEA got bad reviews, bought it anyway. Also, most reviewers are terrible at games.

Giant Bomb rated the game 2 out of 5 stars, and I agree with every word of the review. Didn't stop me from buying the game for the full $60 and playing it for 100+ hours though, because I enjoy third person shooters.
