Even just having other nice male characters other than the Witcher himself in the world would have been a good start. But, no, they are all rapists and murderers - not my assumption, I am quoting verbatim a post from Kappa Neko who likes the Witcher a couple-three posts earlier. Blade and Soul was extremely heavily male-biased (to satirical proportions, tbh), but you could create your own protagonist, and it had a couple of a very appealing male characters along with the host of every kind of a female ones. And, no, Blade and Soul is not an example of an awesome game, but well, it's the only non-Bio/Obsi game I have played at any length. I can play a game made for men and boys by men and boys if I like something about it. It's just I can't really see anything that gets me in the Witcher. Is it really SJW thing to want a world wher eGood Things do exist and happen independently of the protagonist, that has bright and strong men and women in it (that are not protagonist), want to be able to create your own hero and have a game structured as a thrilling adventure with your pick of digital friends that belong to this Realm and are with your hero through thick and thin, beginning to end? Is it really that wrong to want that? To be honest, I stoped playing any games that force me to play males a long time ago. It might sound "biased" but I decided to pay just for games that gives me an opportunity to play as female. Certainly I missed a lot of good games but well, that's ok. I play a game to be entertained and I want to be entertained as a female customer, not a customer who is ok with the fact that this entertainment is cleary tailored towards a certain clientel. Like I said before, call it biased, I'm absolutly fine with it. That aside, I don't care at all if someone loves this or that game. To each their own. It's all about fun and entertainment. And I want to talk about this specific game with all its goods, bads, flaws, positives and negatives in a forum that clearly is a game specific forum. That's all. And because of that it just drives me nuts that I can't talk about a game I enjoy without the inevitable discussion why or why not this game is bad compaired to witcher. I never seen someone so aggressive like the witcher fanboys - almost reminds me of hardcore soccer fans. I've heard (and also "seen" in my family. Sadly I don't own a PS4 so I can't play it) that Horizon Zero Dawn is a very good game - do you see anybody talking about HZD? Makes me really wonder why... Why I have to be "ashamed" of the fact that I love another game but not witcher. Why do I have to justify myself that I don't like and don't want to play witcher in a BW forum? This clearly isn't a CDPR forum - well, at least I thought it is... I absolutely understand what you are saying, and feel exactly the same way. Funny enough, I also feel sad that I don't have the PS4, because HZD does sound pretty cool. But would have been cooler if the main was customizable at least to the point JE was. That's all I want, just a bit of choices for what I wish to play as my hero to get me going!

I can understand the appeal of identifying personally with your player character in a storydriven game and I certainly feel that too... but I just think it's a waste of good fun and enjoyment to pass up games simply because they don't feature a character who reminds me of myself. Certainly didn't stop me from playing Walking Dead Season 2 or Nier Automata or Drakan or Beyond Two Soul (ah jesus that game sucked!!!) or Metroid. If I ever hear about someone passing up The Last of Us Part II because Ellie is the player and she's female I'm gonna SMDH. I will admit though that with HZD which I'm already slightly uninterested in (because it's another open world box-ticking game with "amazing" combat) part of my disinterest is probably strengthened by the fact that Aloy is a woman and not representative of my male gamer interests (which is romance and sex, cars and offensive humor)

So, why do you people do not start with THAT? Now, I am more interested. How long do you play as Ciri and what are her male LIs? is there a screenshot with her portrait and male LIs? What are male LIs like? Can I play the whole game as her? Ciri is a secondary character in terms of gameplay and screen time. I actually would have enjoyed having a choice between her and Geralt as the PC, her powers are potentially VERY interesting. Something similar to Dishonored 2's approach could have been very enjoyable. (but I do understand why they decided to go more in depth with Geralt rather than split resources on two protagonists)
She doesn't have proper romance per se. She does have the option to kiss a guy at some point or say that she likes the ladies better...
To me the whole Ciri thing felt a little like a missed opportunity. If THAT'S what you are going to play the game for - you will be disappointed.
Now that Geralt's story is finished they should make a Ciri trilogy. I'll play that.

So, will it be correct to conclude from your amalgamated posts that playing as Ciri is inconsequential and how she is not really powerful, and does not really have a romance, rather than the: Dom you do know that Witcher isn't just playing as Geralt right?. Ciri who is insanely powerful is like a daughter to him. The whole game is about him tracking her down. But you play as Ciri as well to learn what happened even after they meet up she is the one you kill the crones with. She also saves the world and trust me she is a beautiful looker who loves both men and women in her story side.
Witcher 3 you play as a male (Geralt) (Father figure) and female (Ciri). So, in summary, you really only get to play as Geralt, right? Without spoiling the story for ya. Father is searching for daughter who is been hunted by someone wanting to abuse her gift for evil. You play as father to track her down and you play as daughter to learn what happened. The story then comes together for an epic battle to save the world. Both have a story to tell and you guide them. If you dislike set protagonists you will find it not your style. Otherwise i still highly recommend it Dom.

The main, most fundamental difference between a video-game as a form of art-work from other art is that it does not just speak to you, like a musical piece, a painting, a novel or a movie.
It invites you to co-create and take control of the narration.
The uniqueness and greatness of Andromeda (and other games like it), is that they focus on that single most important aspect via the protagonist creation and party entourage diversity rather than do away with it altogether to allocate the resources to other components.
I am curious to try HZD to see how a game without a co-creation component feels, but I am likely going to miss it too much to truly feel like I am playing a game. So, I don't really lament the absence of PS4 much.

I think it would lose that appeal if they went with MEA style. Sometimes a story needs a set hero that you guide. 😊

So much heated argument about W3 - if you like it, you just want other people to discover it and enjoy it too. I don't think anyones seriously pushing it on someone not interested.
All things considered, open world (for me) works a lot better if it changes. As big as the open worlds are in MEA, they hardly change, except a few graphics in the sky and the hazards (except Voeld) disappear. Otherwise they are totally static.
Even if you feel W3 is crap, the actual explorable world spaces are detailed, weather patterns, hidden caves, etc. Just night and day cycles keep it from growing stale. Added to this, most of MEA world spaces are deserts. If there had been more variety like even in DAI, it wouldn't be as noticeable. As it is, the never-ending desert makes me long for DLC with forest or ocean - something but desert please!
And the hazard zones not changing in Voeld is just dumb.

But as long as I get my share of good games and also the choice to play as my prefered gender I can live with the fact that I miss a lot of good games. I know that. And thanks for mentioning that HZD has a female as main, although well, it certainly has no romance? Damn. No sex? Damn! No offensive humour? Meh... my kids never told me that! But at least it has no cars and that's a plus. I'm not into cars that much...

1. Character Creator is definitely a valid criticism and something I've been critical of as well. It's far too limited and the presets are far from attractive. 2. Cutscenes aren't skippable or dialogue? I've never had an issue skipping anything to my knowledge, besides the opening cinematic for the game. 3. Manual saving is only disabled on priority missions. That being said, I do see it as a nuisance, although it hardly kills my experience. Quick save is a nonissue, in my eyes, as long as the auto save function works well. 4. Yep. I believe we've all established the animations are far from perfect. 5. I'd bundle this with wonky facial animations. In general, BioWare seemed to have a breakdown in their conversation system and how characters emote. 6. All BioWare games have fetch quests. I honestly can't remember any of the fetch quests in Jade Empire, and it's one of my favorite BioWare games. As long as you aren't a completionist, that content is entirely optional. I certainly prefer all of the fetch quests in MEA over the "requisitions" in DAI. 7. What platform are you playing on? I barely had any issues on PC. It seems problems are more likely to occur on consoles. Other than that one Nomad quest bug and some enemies clipping in the environment, my experience was smooth. 8. Auto-dialogue has been an issue since ME3. That's more of an issue with BioWare design and not something specific to MEA. 9. Quality of dialogue is subjective. For an inexperienced group of young explorers, I didn't find most of the dialogue to be that jarring. Only a few minor exceptions where BioWare probably could have toned it down a bit. 10. I'll just assume you obtained all of the memory fragments. I also believe a lot of her character's background is explained in the Uprising novel. It's still possible we could learn more about her in DLC, but I also would have liked to have seen a bit more of her. 11. The system more or less seems to be a holdover from ME1 with how it handled "hazards." I don't particularly have an issue with it as it largely gets the point across of "don't go there." 12. As you indicated, you can skip most of the travel time now. This galaxy map was originally supposed to be in ME1 but was cut due to a lack of ram on the Xbox 360. I don't mind BioWare showcasing the beautiful galaxy they created, but it should have been skippable from the start. Many of your criticisms are more so complaints about BioWare, in general, and not necessarily specific to MEA. I also wouldn't say any of your criticisms are downright devastating towards the game. Aside from wonky facial animations and a limited CC, I think most of your complaints are either subjective or relatively minor. I didn't have your bug issues, so that's really something that differs between every gamer. I found DAI's environments to be an absolute chore not worth exploring. I did them because of the completionist in me, but I definitely did not enjoy myself. I found MEA to be a vast improvement over DAI's design, personally. Not sure I'll even ask what your problem with ME3 is, but I suppose it's a positive you like MEA more? While I definitely understand your hesitation, DLC is more or less a requirement to experience in BioWare games these days. With DLC like Arrival, Legacy, Leviathan, and Trespasser, you miss crucial story beats if you don't buy the DLC. You are ultimately free to do what you'd like, but I can almost guarantee you BioWare will tie MEA2 to one of these DLCs and move the story forward. It's inevitable given the last four games and the DLC they produced. That being said, I think a lot of your issues with the game will be resolved by BioWare as they improve the game with the upcoming patches that are planned. 2. If you've reloaded as many times as I have, you'd have run into the unskippable cutscenes more often. Basically, the first part of any plot or mission related cutscene is unskippable. Once you get to a dialogue wheel, the rest can usually be skipped (not always). 3. Again, you haven't had to reload as often as I had. Or just been dumb and stepped into a pool of acid or something. Losing 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 minutes because the last save point was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back there is seriously annoying. 6. It's the quality and number of them. ME1 and 2 had some, but very few. And the ones they did have were pretty well done and interactive. ME3 started having a ton, and MEA continues that upward trend. And they're literally just "go here, scan/pick up/drop off this thing, and come back." 7. I'm on PC, all the latest updates, drivers, solid hardware (self-built). If you go over to the ea answers forum, you can see how many people have encountered game breaking bugs. I've been so lucky to encounter a good 2/3s of the ones I looked at. 8. Yes, auto-dialogue has been an issue since ME3. And instead of fixing it, they double downed it. 9. There are a lot of situations where Ryder gets to say basically, "Sorry" or "Screw you" with nothing in between, like, say, a rational explanation. Just got to the cutscene on the Tempest after Jaal is recruited. "So we're working on getting to the vault on Aya by flying away from it?" "Hey, yeah, that doesn't make sense. Jaal, got an answer?" Ugh. The answer is obviously, "We're earning their trust and trying to find the person who actually knows where the vault is." *facepalm* One mild example. 10. Yes. I said incomplete storylines. Example being Jian Garson. Who killed her? If this is to be part of DLC, wouldn't it make more sense that you don't get the quest to investigate until you get that DLC? So that you don't stop in the middle? 11. 50C is 122 degrees fahrenheit. It seriously is a hot hike in one of the southern states in summer. You're fine as long as you drink enough water. -40 C if you look at my "Environmental Warnings" thread, plenty of people have chimed up saying that they live and work in that temp all the time. There's no way 50C or -40C would damage our current vehicles, let alone a futuristic exploration vehicle. Ditto with Ryder and her armor suit. Lazy writing. IF they'd bothered to actually do some googling or math, they would have made the temperature extremes actual EXTREMES. And why doesn't Voeld ever moderate, despite SAM saying the ambient temp has gone up 10 degrees after you finish the vault? 12. You can skip some of the travel time. You still have to wait ages for travel between clusters and landing/take off. At least you admit these are valid criticisms. I an neither a troll nor a die hard fan. These are objects about Andromeda, not about Bioware or Mass Effect in general, or about open worlds. It's an actual flawed game that needed a lot more polish and intelligence put into it.

You can also have beautiful relation with her, and save her. Role Playing Game you know!? People please stop writing nonsense, especially you who didn't play TW3. Don't embarrass yourself! Do you see the contradiction? I clearly can just speak for my personal female point of view now but where is the Role Playing aspect in it when all I can do is playing an old guy who saves or not saves damsels in disdress? Have a beautiful romance with all these damsels? Wheres the fun in that? I want to save nice guys in disdress and romance them or kill them if I like to. "Role playing" means for me to decide what kind of character I want to play. What gender. What preferences. That's the reason I prefer a "bad" BW game over hunders of good Witcher games that is clearly catered towards male customers - if you don't mind my "nonsense". You are 5 years old or what? There is no contradiction in TW3. And core element of true RPG game is multiple choices and consequences. Also my post is aimed to the people who talk about specific things in TW3 that are not true. You don't like male characters? Well that's your problem. Why do you even talk about game that doesn't interest you and you didn't play it?

But it turned out she just managed everything anyway and every character in the story supported her and every time something bad happened you had to feel sorry for her *sob sob*, just like Shepard in ME3 which I hated so much. Hope I'm wrong though. I'm picking up HZD when it drops in price.

As I said, it's not just cuz Geralt is an old white guy. I've read the reviews and the storyline for TW3 and it just doesn't sound like a game I'd like. My husband's played it and he agrees. Also, being forced into a single non-customizable character is like a constant jab under my skin. I just don't really like it, and tend to stay away from games that have a main character that isn't customizable. I play games that don't really have a main character, or where the main character "pov" isn't really crucial, like the Civ games and the Warcraft games. I've also played games where your main character is kinda limited but you can generally choose the gender, like Guildwars, Diablo, etc. But when it's a mostly main-character PoV and the mainc haracter is locked into one look and gender, it does bother me during the entire game.

Nice car, nice hat, fashionably dressed wife - what more could a man want??? I have never not played a game because the protagonist was female or said to myself "The main character is female? I can't play this!" It's an absurd notion for either gender.

Did you read the entire post? Did I say I never would or did? I said it bothers me the entire game. Plus the rest of the first paragraph.

It's not because it is simply a girl or a boy, it is because you can not create your own. Maybe it is easier for people who play on consoles, but when I got married, my husband had Diablo and Quake (or whatever the name), and I did not give it a time of day. When he brought Baldur's gate 1 home, I was instantly hooked and played BioWARE games ever since, and only on PC. So, I always created my own character. To me it's what gaming is about. I would have tried HZD, as a gateway drug into that different world, but the cost of a console for just one title is steep. I like my PC gaming. :)

I've played Planescape Torment, Overlord, Overlord II, and several other games that were male-only protagonists. Didn't really like Torment, really had fun picking the concubine in Overlords. Wish that I had been able to pick male concubines. Oh well.

Wish that I had been able to pick male concubines. Oh well. Someone sent me PS:T copy saying: "Oh, you gonna love it! There is Ana there, she flicks her tail, it's so sexy!" I got as far as the white floating lady calling to me: "Oh, my love!", then spent a few quality days integrating Fall from Grace Avatar as my protagonist and rewriting all files for a female PC. We made it out of the Sanctuary with her, but animations were never that good, and people kept telling me that chopped-off breasts will have less of a dramatic impact than the pennis. Tbh, it was mostly the floating skull that made me quit. It was really annoying, and the writing was too contrived and long-winded for my tastes. Good times, lol. Still miss it how easily you could hack the games for your own amusement back in the day.

Yeah I just felt I was making no progress after like, 3 days, plus lots of crashes and an uncomfortable chair. I didn't like the game enough to mod it, but I sure had lots of fun modding ME2. I remember playing as Garrus and Thane a LOT.

I remember playing as Garrus and Thane a LOT. It's a very good setting, and a lot of ideas that went into the game was really cool. I think I might have gotten into it even with a TNO after my experiments, if I was more in synch with the writing. They got me in KOTOR2. But not in PS:T.

I've had a feeling she's a Sue ever since i saw the initial gameplay, but I want to play it because it sounds interesting. I played Ace Attorney 5 which also featured a female protagonist who had to go thorugh tremendous hardship! But it turned out she just managed everything anyway and every character in the story supported her and every time something bad happened you had to feel sorry for her *sob sob*, just like Shepard in ME3 which I hated so much. Hope I'm wrong though. I'm picking up HZD when it drops in price. It does have a little of that but overall you watch her go from child to badass. Without spoiling the story i will just say it's in the same league as TW3 story wise for me. That can go either way. I'm just hoping it's not like watching Rey learn the force in TFA x(

"I don't like the Witcher and I'm not going to play it to verify the things I say about it, arguments about my ability to properly discuss elements of the game be damned" the vibe I'm getting from a lot of posters here. And on the other side there's a lot of people who continuously thrash ME: A and other recent Bioware games while praising TW3 excessively which no doubt fuels the resentment some may have on the TW3.
