Too many new post and I'm lazy to multiquote. So the big trigger is the "duty as a man". Lol guys, it was a friendly tease... They have been best friends for a while, one of the points of a friendship is that remarks like this don't come off as offensive. If this is such a big issue then it can be applied as an offense to literally every other MW person who came to andromeda. Might as well thaw out a divorce lawyer and sic them on the krogan husband on eladeen who wants to keep trying. Jill was just making a suggestion. She's not demanding anything, nor forcing him to do it, simply suggests it. Ryder/player can make the choice whether this child exist or not. After all the Jill hate I skimmed through the Gil romance and correct me if I read it wrong but in that case the 'father' can be a Gil-Ryder cocktail (ha! unintentional pun!). The normal (/biology) human and PB romance are the only other ones where the chance is there for an offspring (potential future game PC). The gay romance got the biggest boost in the game. It's the first time in the series where you can have a kid with your LI.

If most of gay men are telling you that Jill as character and her storyline with Gil is a homophobic insult to real gay men you should actually hear those real people instead of making your own asumptions about what's good or not for gay men, because you're not gay men. Pretty simple. *Returning to my cave again *

Hey, babe. I just want you to know how hard it is out here and how hard we're all working to get things done and I want you to know that this old Krogan will always have your back. I got the picture you sent me from Podromos and I keep it close by. It really helps when you come back from a hard fight to know you're down there making things work for people. After the uprising I didn't think we had much of a chance out here. But you've changed that for me and not just me but for everyone out here and in cryo. They have a future because of you, I just wanted to say thanks. Truly yours., Zip.

Yeah, I gotta say, I'm surprised that's all there is to it. Hell I'm as straight as a razor and I could get that from my folks tonight if I wanted to (ye olde, "when are you giving us grandkids" sermon). Then of course there's the details of the situation, namely: a) unlike in the real world where it maybe happens too much, procreation actually is really important at this stage, what with the pisspoor numbers we brought over and with how much of those numbers are fighting and killing each other and the methods of artificial inseminations that are surely available. At not point is Jill actually suggesting Gil takes one for the team yes? So, really I fail to see the problem. And I'm not sure about this "gay, therefore gay authority" thing either. Surely an individual can still be irrationally offended by something personally, and who's a better authority on the self than the self; but does that mean no one can tell them "maybe it's a little different"? And what happens if a gay dude is ok with this? Is he wrong, or is this a four out of five experts thing?

I'm gay and didn't see Jill as a homophobic insult to gay men everywhere. Get a grip people - I know there is a love of deconstructing the 10 minutes of content Gil has in the game and viewing everything as a purposeful slight, but I think it goes a bit far on these boards.
As much as I dislike Gil as a character, and his arch more specifically, this is more due to bad writing and timing than the storyline itself. If there was more Gil content and baby talks BEGAN post-game, and not 5 minutes into the romance, this would probably be far better received.
Many gay men have close female friends and may have discussed issues of surrogacy on their own terms, and I know actual gay people for whom choosing a surrogate and wanting that person to be close to them is a big deal.
I think people are mis-reading the lack of neutral Gil content compared to Jill content as homophobia which is bullshit. It's to me simply rushed storylines and being first-to-market in a video game for what is presently a hot issue now that gay marriage has already been done. I guess gay adoption has as well in Skyrim, if you count children appearing in your house - though there are no conversations or real storyline behind it.

Pretty simple. *Returning to my cave again * I just think it's interesting how they're using arguments that assume Gil is a real autonomous person rather than a gay character written by a real life person (who we have no idea the sexuality of; just that he's not openly gay or anything). So people are essentially prioritizing fiction over real life gay people explaining why it comes off shitty to some of us. Of course, I'm not saying that anyone who disagrees is necessarily a homophobe, just that straight people aren't going to understand why the writing hits too close to home for some of us. I'm thankful for those who at least say they understand our POV on this matter and don't condescend down to us about it, though I think it's weird to talk about intent in the portrayal when intent doesn't always matter when writing. For example, there's a lot of writing about misogyny or misogynistic writing that aren't intended to have anything to do with sexism. However, it hits those buttons for a lot of women consuming that media, so it becomes associated with misogyny regardless of the writers' intent.

Straight people who opt not to have children aren't subjected to their legal rights being restricted, attempts to "change" them that amount to psychological and occasionally physical torture, or in some cases full-blown extermination attempts. All these things and more have been done to gay men with the justification that we're not contributing to population growth. A straight person who just doesn't want to have kids doesn't have this baggage.
The fact is, that if you don't have this kind of baggage yourself, it's rather shitty to look down your nose at us and claim that we're just being oversensitive even when you really don't have any baseline for comparison.

Also, out of curiosity, what's the current gay/youdontgetit consensus regarding the toxic levels DAO Morrigan where it was a choice of 'die or sleep with a woman'? Not really, there is Alistair. Also it is unfair to compare the two. Morrigan is a companion, you know her and her motivations and there is actually three choices to resolve the situation. It feels more like a friend offering a way out of a shitty ending than "YOU NEED TO HAVE BABIES TO ROMANCE THIS CHARACTER THE RIGHT WAY", the problem is Jill being connect to the romantic arc in a way that seems that Gil loses agency.

How I met your human mother.
Chapter 1: Vortex.
It was an unusually cold night in the Nexus docking bays, the heat had been fluctuating due to a lack of power and it meant the station had to prioritise during certain hours. Jill didn't mind, she was just glad to be back at safe harbour. After dodging the Kett and ensuring the viability of the human species she'd earnt the night off and she intended to use it.
Walking down the long hall towards the second door of the Vortex lounge, behind the first, Jill heard the familiar sounds of music and people. The air seemed to get thick as she entered you could feel the buzz and hear the air.
Atmosphere, finally she could breathe out.
People who'd done it and survived given up for death and overcome the impossible were ready to live again.
This was almost her doing. She smiled and wandered over toward her usual table where an old friend was once again, hustling Krogan with a card deck or so she thought.
As Jill approached she began to notice a familiar tell. Gills eyebrows were slightly twitchy so he'd moved them in toward the brow of his nose.
He was losing
She wandered over to the Krogan noting his half empty bottle of Ryncol. Tilting her head back and crossing her arms she remarked it must be almost as old he was.
"Older." the Krogan said "They were using it to poison Pyjak drinking water when i stole it 600 years ago. Been in Cryo ever since. But don't ask for any, you won't be nearly as good looking afterwards."
Jill smiled and in that moment she noticed the Krogan too, had a tell. He bobbed his head when she smiled and then looked away immediately towards Gill and called.
Jill smiled again, she'd just found a way to beat them both at their own game.

I don't think that the "duty as a man" comment is the only problem but it's certainly part of it. For me, the big problem is just that the whole baby part of Gil's arc is nonsensical and terribly written and as Jill is so closely linked to that (and does say that terrible line), she's pretty much become synonymous with it for me.
I mean, look, Gil doesn't even really want kids. Up until the very end he's not even sure if he's ready to be a dad and when he does decide to have a kid it feels very forced and I never got the sense that he was fit to be a parent yet which, you just really shouldn't have kids if you don't feel ready for them. And why does he decide to have a kid anyway? Because of Jill, the reproduction expert who really should know better than to pressure people who're clearly not ready (let alone her best friend) into parenthood. Then there's the issue of the whole thing just not making a whole lot of sense in the context of the story. They haven't even woken up everyone from the pods yet, they keep talking about resource shortages, there's a whole side mission that makes it very clear that people aren't supposed to be having babies yet but Jill, the reproduction expert who really should know better than to bring children into a world that can't sustain them, apparently didn't get the memo? TBH, I don't even get why she isn't still in a pod herself. It feels like the reproduction people would be among the last to be taken out of cryo seeing as they're more or less useless until the Initiative can feed and house everyone they brought with them.
The last issue I have with it isn't directly linked to Jill but it does have to do with the baby stuff so it is indirectly linked. I don't think we know the exact timeline over which the events of Andromeda take place but I can't imagine it's more than a few months which means, if you agree to raise the kid with him, Gil and Scott have only been together for a few months before they decide to have a kid with each other which is just an incredible display of idiocy on their part (and on the writers' part).
In conclusion, almost everything about this baby story feels off and weird. It seems like the kind of story they should've saved for the second game (and they definitely should've put more effort into writing it) and Jill is unfortunately-written at best and an utter idiot at worst.

I'll vote when you put the "throw her out the airlock" option in. You have terrible taste in femdromedan's. Seriously? Nobody else thinks Jill is amazing? And a missed opportunity? You do understand that it was a tongue-in-cheek response, yes? I don't especially care for her but I don't hate her. Actually defended her in the Gil thread at one point. Hell, a romance might be just what Jill needs in order to for her stop trying to force gay dudes to have babies with her.
