Fallout 4 does it a bit, though content is fairly sparse, but unlike BioWare's games, Fallout 4 basically removes any real restrictions and allows you to pretty much romance every available companion at the same time. I haven't discovered any jealousy dialogue like DA or ME does, at least none so far. Heck I can lump all the LI's in one home base and nothing. When you swap one companion for another to travel with, neither acknowledge the shared romance and just have their normal parting banter. It's still an improvement though, right? Skyrim's followers were so devoid of personality I didn't even bother taking them along and didn't go for marriage either. I continue to support player-sexual romances, keeps the number small, allowing more in depth interactions. In theory. My perfect RPG used to be some sort of blend between Bethesda and Bioware, marrying interactive worlds with engaging narrative. I briefly thought maybe FO4 could be that dream come true with a voiced protagonist and personal story, but nope, apparently not. Then CDPR came along and SORT OF did that and it was amazing. Still... if Bioware could co-develop a game with Bethesda I'd throw all my money at them.

I can't really speak for Skyrim's romances, but FO4's are fun, albeit horribly cheesy a lot of the time (especially Curie's). The companion content in general is pretty good though, especially Nick Valentine's, who was a pleasant surprise.

Sure, the CC is a factor, but there are also other things I like that BioWare offers: - Interesting followers - Team-based exploration and combat - Inclusive romance - Fantasy worlds that I actually want to spend time in (egalitarian, escapist) If CDPR's Cyberpunk provides at least some of those things, I might be interested. The LGBT romances are the one thing that nobody else is doing and CDPR won't either, I'm pretty sure. They don't care about inclusiveness at all so far. So for those gamers there really is no alternative to Bioware, true. The other things are not common (outside JRPGs) but not entirely unlikely to be offered by others in the future. The big romance focus in general is unique to Bioware. I mentioned CC specifically because it's something that matters to many RPG fans, way more than romances I would say. It's the major reason many state here for not wanting to play CDPR games. The set protagonist. To me personally it needs to be an appealing package that aside from being preferably "emotionally engaging" has no specific requirements. Bioware offered the most enjoyable experience for ten years. Things are slowly changing and moving on eventually won't be THAT dramatic for me as long as SOMEBODY is making the kind of games I like. I'm fine with a set protaganist (I've played HZD twice so far), but a set protaganist means it's a roll of the dice whether the player is going to connect with that character or not. It did with Aloy for me, and it did with Geralt to an extent (in 3 not so much in 2). I just don't find multi-playthroughs with him as appealing as just the one. Also, are you certian that CDPR doesn't care about inclusiveness? Their only major franchise so far is based on a prexistent source and character. That fundamentally limits what they can do with him. I don't think we will really know how they view issues like that till Cyberpunk comes out.

You can adopt kids and move into a house, but there is no romance, it is just marriage and then nothing. It's better than the Fables series (just drop presents into anyone's hands in the street and they want to marry you), but not by much.

I loved my twin gatling laser ADA, now that was a nice AI character instead they gave us bloody monotone SAM. Hell even dogmeat had more personality than some of MEA companions. I really liked Danse and his quest and his reaction to it all, it was surprisingly well written. Never bothered with Deacon, curie turned out to become boring very quickly. Same with Cait as well.

I don't think we will really know how they view issues like that till Cyberpunk comes out. CDPR had an ability to make a game about A Witcher set in the World of Definitely-Not-Poland, rather than a game about Geralt Rivka specifically. They could have let your Witcher be Geralt's friend or student or whatever. BioWare did not make a game about Drizzt when they did BG2, when they absolutely could have.
If CDPR elect the same restrictions for Cyberpunk, then we certainly will know they are not into inclusiveness.

Sure, but that is not really what "The Wicther" series is about. It's like saying you could make a Batman game where you play the whole thing as Robin or Commissioner Gordon. They have spoken about doing spin-offs of the series, and I do think Ciri is bisexual (but don't quote me on that). I'm not telling anyone they should think CDPR is interested in giving content to gays, I am just saying we won't fully know till they do their first major rpg with a CC and life path choices.

Then you are an Idiot, Their first game had to be about Geralt as he is pretty much tied to the word Witcher. Now witcher 4 or whatever is called will allow that. They left enough hooks to continue and build on the concept of create your own witcher in witcher 3. By end of B&W Geralt has schematics of all the schools, their techniques, knowledge of mutations with Yennefer helping, an advanced mutation lab which is safer to mutate people with etc etc. Just say Empress asked her adpoted parents to make new witchers but properly without the 3/10 survival rate and there you have it. Create your own witcher. Finally baldurs gate is a DnD game which is a setting while witcher games are inspired and based on the witcher books which are most definitely about Geralt. If you make a game on Drizzt do urden books your character has to be Drizzt du urden. Thats why you are a idiot. Thats why future witcher games can be about witchers as Geralts story is done and CDPR have created a setting and added on to it. There is a reason why a PnP witcher game is also being made. The witcher books were focused on Geralt and settings were a brushstroke in general. Now CDPR have added to that allowing them the option to create new witchers.

I agree, that's why I am keeping fingers crossed for Cyberpunk to see how it turns out. I always assumed it will have CC, but an article posted this march threw a shade of doubt on it, as it exclusively referred to protagonist as he and young man. But it could be that it was just to facilitate the writing.

I submit this as one of those shining examples of Witcher 3 fanbase engagement I was talking about earlier.
This is why, I believe a dialogue about W3 is really impossible.

I can't imagine them telling Mike Pondsmith that he has to play as a white guy.

I get the feeling that one of the biggest reasons they had to use Geralt is because fans of the books would complain with questions about why they can't play as him. As for the 3/10 survival rate, that doesn't really matter, does it? You'd just be the character that survived

Don't know how it is for other people but for me it mostly depends on the writing and execution how much I connect with characters. A bit of personal preference for sure. But ANYONE is relatable if presented in a way that is engaging. W2 was fairly unemotional. Even the Triss romance was not engaging even though Geralt was faithful and dropped everything to save her. But it wasn't particularly romantic in its execution. And Geralt felt like a emotionless rock at the time. So while it was a really good game with an excellent plot, it left me emotionally cold for the most part. Geralt was meh. This changed in W3, though some of it probably has to do with reading the novels. But he really is this scary-looking guy with a soft heart in W3 who tries do help everyone. Everything about Ciri was super emotional. Geralt is actually a very emotional person on the inside. I was FULLY invested in it all. Bioware grade invested. I couldn't care less for the inquisitor. Worst Bioware protagonist ever at the time. Picking, gender, race and romance didn't help jackshit getting invested in such a boring character. Actually, the more set a character is the more invested I get in their story. I get attached to my CC characters after a while, even in Skyrim. Especially their faces. But good charismatic presentation is important to me. So Shepard and Hawke all the way. Boo to the inquisitor and soon probably boo to Ryder who seems to suffer from the same blandness. EDIT: Forgot to address the second part... It's true that Geralt's story didn't really allow for the option to play him gay. But the overall writing of non-straight characters in the games was not particular delicate. And they don't seem particularly concerned about political correctness. Very male gamer oriented narrative. I don't see this changing radically. Though we can't know for sure until Cyberpunk.

I submit this as one of those shining examples of Witcher 3 fanbase engagement I was talking about earlier.
This is why, I believe a dialogue about W3 is really impossible.
Gratuitous accussasions of idiocy usually reveal the idiocy of the speaker they come from.

TW3 when you play as Ciri you can follow a male "romance" arc or shut it down by saying you prefer women. They leave it up to the player. Really looking forward to CP2077 and hoping they will open up the game with proper character customization instead of a set protagonist. Considering the source material it would be really disappointing to see them go that route again.

While I prefer Hawke and Shepard, Inquisitor had that quiet, slow, placid strength that went so well with the Qunari. The story itself was patchy and easily lost in the white noise, but the emotional impact hit me at the end when you were asked if you shall dismantle what you had built. In that awkward, slow, round-about way, Inquisition did work but it took resolve and resilience, and a game imo should not take resolve and resilience. It should be a wild ride
Gods, I love Ryders so much though

TW3 when you play as Ciri you can follow a male "romance" arc or shut it down by saying you prefer women. They leave it up to the player. That's pretty much canon though. Or rather, Ciri is bisexual in the novels.

I don't think we will really know how they view issues like that till Cyberpunk comes out. The problem with 2 was that Geralt had almost no personality, and was constantly at the whim of everyone around him. In 3 he has far more charm and agency. I didn't really come to like him till I played 3. I loved the Inquisitor, but then the romance with Solas had me teary eyed so... The difference with me is I need a voice acted and responsive character to really get invested (which is why I can never get invested with ant of my Wardens and really don't have a canonical one). I also love Ryder bunches, but we'll just chalk that up to divergent tastes.
