CDPR will only do romance if its plot and story driven. Their is a reason that Geralt only has two romance options. Yeah, I know. Geralt is a character from a book series, bla, bla, bla. Since he doesn't interest me, the games aren't on my to-do list. Sure, the CC is a factor, but there are also other things I like that BioWare offers: - Interesting followers - Team-based exploration and combat - Inclusive romance - Fantasy worlds that I actually want to spend time in (egalitarian, escapist) If CDPR's Cyberpunk provides at least some of those things, I might be interested. Your list is my list, thought I am good with engaging relationships with characters I would fall digitally in love with rather than romantic scene per se. Unrequited love works for me as long as the character does inspire love and is not engaged with someone else! It's the infatuation with the characters in the world and in the support cast that I really like experiencing. In other words, KOTOR2 is a pass. And, yep, one of the troubles I had with W3, is that after browsing the male cast... no dice. They don't look good (at least on screenies), and they sounds like either awful people or very, very weak men (I mean, one has to get Geralt to fight his duels for him or something, and then turns into an alcoholic if Geralt does not matchmake him). Having Reyes, Akksul, Avitus and Liam around really helps Andromeda, lol. It doesn't have to be a total sausage fest, but a couple of cool strong honorable men that can lace their breeches w/o geralt's help would sure be nice. A gorgeous antagonist or something... anything. I'm perfectly okay with games that don't offer romance at all. It's just that if they do, I want it to be inclusive. Bethesda also offers inclusive romance options in their more recent titles. Yes, I know. I meant cinematic ones with characters that have a personality. Can't really call the marriages in Skyrim romances. Well, voiced PCs and cinematic content aren't really drawing cards for me. I can take 'em or leave 'em. If my PC can get hitched and have a spouse at home, I can headcanon the rest. For my part, BioWare's romance is primarily taking a relationship arc to the next step. One of the items on my want list involves having followers / crew members with whom the PC can form a relationship. I find that much more immersive than playing a loner type of character.

EDIT: Forgot to address the second part... It's true that Geralt's story didn't really allow for the option to play him gay. But the overall writing of non-straight characters in the games was not particular delicate. And they don't seem particularly concerned about political correctness. Very male gamer oriented narrative. I don't see this changing radically. Though we can't know for sure until Cyberpunk. They made a clear effort in TW3 to tackle topics that they ordinarily wouldn't, and even in a positive way. Fortunately they did it without the writing coming off as pandering. But I've read interviews with their writers, and it's clear no one tells them how to do their jobs and representation takes a backseat to themes and story. So outside of the CC, I wouldn't expect an emphasis on such issues.

The problem with 2 was that Geralt had almost no personality, and was constantly at the whim of everyone around him. In 3 he has far more charm and agency. I didn't really come to like him till I played 3. I loved the Inquisitor, but then the romance with Solas had me teary eyed so... The difference with me is I need a voice acted and responsive character to really get invested (which is why I can never get invested with ant of my Wardens and really don't have a canonical one). I also love Ryder bunches, but we'll just chalk that up to divergent tastes. Geralt's monotonous voice doesn't help either. Horizon Zero Dawn reminded me again how terrible a voice it is, haha. But it sort of fits him. In the novels his voice is described as unpleasant too. But it sure did not help getting emotionally invested in Geralt playing W2... he also looked repulsive to me. Found him quite sexy in W3 with a different haircut. So major improvement all around. I too dislike silent protagonists. The warden was meh, yes. I played DAO twice and while they were distinctly different and I have fond memories, silent protagonists are just WEIRD in a game where everyone else has a voice. But the inquisitor actively pissed me off because we got GOOD voice actors who must have been told to talk in this dead neutral school teacher voice 90% of the time. I found the delivery totally unnatural. I did the Solas romance too and HATED it, save for the breakup. Only good scene. And in retrospect I liked it for the personal impact on the Dalish inquisitor. I TRIED to headcanon the shit out of Lavellan but what happened on screen was just a sad sad replacement for charming Hawke. It's really jarring when everyone tells my quizzie how amazing she is and I sit there thinking "Lol, why?!?!" Nothing she does the entire game is impressive. She just asked everyone what to do and then went with one because she had no clue what the hell was going on. Nothing remarkable about her. She's just the body attached to the glowing hand serving as the poster girl of the inquisition to me. If only we could have played as Cassandra...

And if the imagery that's been released thus far is any indication, that's not going to change much in Cyberpunk. So - unless I'm wrong about that, I don't see myself becoming a CDPR customer in the forseeable future.

I've played games that casually turned pants and sandals on males into just cover your ho-ho babydolls with stalking and spiky heels on females on every outfit there was for example. The protagonist was a martial artist... heh. I have an inkling that choice along with the boob slider was not made due to company's projecting 50% of the playerbase being females. i know that CDPR toned down from the first game, but dealing with multiple protagonists, their mindsets and sexuality will be a new territory for them, despite Ciri. It will be in char design, dialogue options and the cast of the game, because it will no longer be rotating around a lone wolf male who is openly the one and only worthy manly man in the whole of the Realm, combining the best of the badass and decent in one. It cannot just flatter and address a somewhat dissatisfied man as their audience if they wish to broaden their scope.

Yes, with Geralt ity is remarkable how the same character model (he really doesn't look THAT different in 2&3) can look both ugly and attractive based on little tweaks. In inquisition, I enjoyed playing a devout dalish elf who is forced against her will into a human institution, but as the story progresses, and her relationship with Solas does, comes to doubt what she has always thought she knew about the elves, and by the end, no longer has her Vallaslin, and is permanently alienated from the people she grew up with. Sure, a lot of the that is head canoning, but they give enough varied dialogue in the game that I was able to tie it into what was actually happening. Lastly, while I loved my Inquisitor and will defend her, and her doomed love affair with the Dread Wolf till my dying day, it really isn't fair to compare her to Hawke. No one compares to Hawke.

Yeah it does him a world of good (even he recognizes it in game when he has to shave it off for his audience with Emhyr), but I think they did...de-ugglify his face a tad. Even shaved he is not as ugly as he is in 2.

For someone who pretty much branded Witcher fans as crude , you certainly have a lot of crude things to say about the game you have not played. Patriarcal? Just because the protagonist is a straight white male, it certainly is not. In fact it is quite the opposite here. Ho-ho babydolls? The mages in this world has reasons for all the get up and dress up. For them its about power and the fact that they are really old, ugly or in Yen's case, an old ugly hunchback before the glamour. Think of them as the Asari in MET who uses their itlligence and beauty to manipulate or like Vivienne in DAI with her attire and as I recall...heels. I could scroll more but I think you are just as agressive as the worse Witcher fan on this forum. At least they have played these games. Just saying. As for CP2077, I don't know much about it but since they want to closely follow the original materials, I'd bet my goldfish there would be CC. This is set in USA thats multi cultural and not in a Polish lore.

The thing is she was around 15 years old then, so she probably should have dressed differently in TW3 as she is in her 20's, but still, that's just a nuance borrowed from the saga.

I used another game as an example of having a CC option to make a female, but leaning towards male audience. It was Blade and Soul, if you need the game's name and I most definitely played it, though I did cringe through babydolls, bathing suits and heels in Definitely-Not-Korea. I was expressing hope that Cyberpunk will be different than Blade and Soul when they introduce the CC option and move away from just Geralt as a PC.

So, it's silly in the books to XD thanks for the info. Not really, it was an episode when she was with a group of "robin hoodish" vigilantes. Most of them were teenagers and they wanted to look cool, be recognised by everyone etc. They paid the price for it ofc. So they shouldn't have carried it over into the game if the books made it clear that it was stupid. Hey, I love the game, and Ciri especially, but it is not imminue to criticism.

The price was paid for being a group of easily recognisable "robin hoodish" vigilantes, not for wearing this kind of boots specifically. I also said "she probably should have dressed differently in TW3 as she is in her 20's, but still, that's just a nuance borrowed from the saga." Sure, criticize away. They just recreated the last (or so I think) costume that was described in the books, so it's more of a reference than anything else.

Sword fighting in high heels is stupid. It is stupid in book or game form. Look, I don't even really care (I'm playing Gravity Rush right now, and the protag of that is running around in heels as well), all I'm just saying that it is obviously there to look sexy.

What's wrong with that? I love the fantasy settings, the art, the beautiful women with their ridiculous outfits and the hunky men with their bare sweaty chests. Give me Conan and Red Sonja anyday over this: Wearing heels while sword fighting doesn't really make any less sense than flinging fireballs or killing ghosts with a silver sword.

Is good looking and strong female character an example of patriarchy or pandering to straight male audience? I can't see why female homosexual (or straight) audience wouldn't like that. It's usually men who bring up that you probably shouldn't wear high heels to battle, even in fantasy world

I want my fantasy to have a dash of realism. I don't mind the occasional boob plate, Elder Scrolls has plenty of it, but atleast cover them up so it actually looks like they are going to war.

Meh, not like that armor would really do you any good once a dragon bit down on you or a werewolf starts gnawing on your limbs. Only real purpose it serves is to make a nice saucepan once the mage starts roasting you with fire.

It's usually men who bring up that you probably shouldn't wear high heels to battle, even in fantasy world Then she should be tripping over her feet all the time during fights, and face planting in the mud. The reason I brought it up was that it is a clear case of crafting a character's look to please a predominantly heterosexual male audience. Same goes for the alternate Yen/Triss outfits which max out the sex and cleavage (which I why I never used them in game, they just look silly). I don't really care myself, but carefull clearly does, and I am not so much of a fanataic as to dimiss every other person's concerns, and right to have them, because they are not my own. I'll will say to anyone who does not thinks that Ciri has high heeled boots to appear sexy to the player that I have a bridge outside Novigrad to sell you that, under which, is definitely not infested with trolls.
