I really liked Inquisition its my most played DA game. I need to give DAI another chance sometime. I didn't get more than a few hours into it before it just got terribly boring for me. I didn't like any of the companions and the story was moving at a glacial pace. Maybe I just need to ignore all the side quest stuff and do the main quests, I dunno. The game just felt really bogged down to me. From what little reference I have to compare DAI to MEA I'd say I like MEA more, though they still have a long ways to go in making their open worlds really interesting and alive. I get right into crafting so that might be what keeps me covered it needed more fast travel stations. The setting also helps and the way that I play it. Never take out the Templar and mage camps out early wait till just before the battle if haven, ignore most of the tedious tasks line up missions beforehand and recruit everyone before attempting to settle areas. Taking Viv and Varric lets you recruit two spies in and near the first town using their dialogue specials. Take Cassandra and Varric to redcliffe to get another. Once you have the order right you can settle areas without having to return to them very often. Smooth run. As for companions, be confrontational and argue with them where you can. You might like hating them.

They did market this game with a heavy emphasis on exploration as well as the game being massive in size. Which is what the game turned out to be.
I don't recall anything mentioned about the game having a super amazing storyline.

Noted, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll fire DAI up again while we wait on MEA patches.

I really liked Inquisition its my most played DA game. Andromeda suffers from hand holding and huge travel times. I don't mind traversing dunes/mountains if its worth it. But: Meet Reyes at the bar. drive to the middle of nowhere. Go back to Reyes at the bar again. Drive back into the middle of nowhere. Go back to the Tempest and wait for an email. Drive back to the middle of nowhere and meet Reyes for a 15 second cutscene and fight three mooks. Go back to meet Reyes in the bar again. Head back to the Tempest and wait for a vid call from Reyes. Meet Reyes at Sloanes party or not. Go back to the Tempest and wait for another Email. Meet sloane at her place. Drive to the middle of nowhere again. NOW you can finally complete the damn mission. *Throws Ryncol at it and watches it burn* Forgot those long as load times for kadaras doors. But yes, having to go back and forth so much in Andromeda is a huge turn-off and just makes it a chore. I will never complain after ME1's elevators. Granted, that 10 or 15 seconds seems tedious on Kadara but then I think, "could be worse, could be on an elevator on the Citadel", and everything is okay. Those. Damn. Elevators. If it weren't for the occasional dialog between companions I would have just curled up in the floor.

Elevators were a different type of loading screen. When you start on the top floor, the bottom floor slowly loads in as you go down. Once you hit the ground level and the door opens, everything is loaded.

I mean, let's be real. DA:I's story would be weak no matter what. The "Power" mechanic only exists to try and hide that fact by forcing you to explore side content.

Well - as far as open world goes DA:I was a pretty darn good game from my perspective. have played it over 14 times and still find something new each time I play. MEA has been fun so far - there are actually people like me who enjoy side quests, tasks, collectables etc. It can be a tad overwhelming sometimes, and I wouldn't mind if MEA had fewer for sure. I found that both Witcher 3 and Skyrim had a ton of things to do which also took away from the main quest, but we do get to chose to do or not do the extra quests in many cases. You may like the side quests and go fetch quests in other games better than DA:I or ME:A- fair enough but that is what open world has become. yeah I agree. DAI as I've said is my favourite DA game. My only criticism with DAI is that you are kind of forced a little bit to do some of the side stuff in order to get things moving because you need to do them t oget the power points to unlock the next stage whereas inmost games whlie it is recommended if you want more resources and or XP it's pretty much optional and it is possible to finish the game without doing them the choice is pretty much in your hands as to whether you do it. I am glad that MEA didn't follow DAI's route in that sense at least. People should feel like they want to do the quest because it's an intriguing one not forced to do them because they need power points or something. Thankfully in MEA I found a lot of it quite intriguing so gameplay and story wise MEA isn't a problem for me. All the issues I have with MEA are all technical which can and I think will be patched up eventually if they haven't been already. DAI on the other hand whilst I do enjoy the quests they do feel a lot like simple collectathons really with no real thought behind them.

I wouldn't mind if they dropped the Open World gimmick. It detracts too much from the main story and not in a good way. By dropping Open World Bioware could also spend more attention to polishing and world building like:
- Writing a strong and compelling main plot - Polishing the game so that it isn't a bug ridden mess on release - Polishing side content the game still does have so that even here the story and choices are good. Less content isn't a bad thing should be the central theme here. It is all about quality, not quantity. - getting rid of the awful zoom-in conversations. Seriously, those buggy, lazy and immersion-breaking conversations are the bane of my existence. Even though it takes a lot more time, I believe everything should be cinematic and as much handcrafted as possible. Without open-world you have less conversations to animate and you have a bigger budget to spend on animations. win-win I say. - designing a better UI (especially for PC. The copy-paste console UI's are annoying me lately.) - Adding more choices which actually mean something. Open worlds quickly become too big for all these little things to be meaningful which makes the world feel bland and static. Compacter worlds do tend to make up for this. I hope I don't have to see 'this choice doesn't do anything except for defining what kind of a pathfinder you want to be' on websites nearly as often as I do now in the future.
If those things are possible combined with an open world I'd say go for it, but I think that's an unrealistic assumption. I also believe this list is more important for ME (note that it's my personal list, so I don't state this as facts) than having an Open World, so if I had to make a choice the latter probably has to go. Let's hope MEA2 is more like ME2.
