I'm really surprised how high EDI and Zaeed are on the list. EDI was great in the SP game for her conversations but she was not really a great Squadmate. Her abilities were very specific and her usefulness limited.

That list is so wrong. Liam, Kasumi, Jack and Drack are way too far down the list. Ashley should not be higher than Zaeed. EDI shouldn't even be on the list and Tali is too close to the top. Drack is better than Grunt and Wrex. *ducks and hides*

If I had made this list Drack would be a whole hell of a lot higher on that list, like #2 right after Garrus (because I can't lie Garrus is my favorite character in Mass Effect, I blame Brandon Keener). To be honest though I don't really hate any of the characters in Mass Effect, some annoy me sure PeeBee, Liam, Jacob, and yes Liara, but that's not really Liara's fault (it's the writers for making it seem like Shepard is romancing her even when you're not.)

I can do that too.
31.) Liara - Is there any character in Mass Effect more annoying than this little git? BioWARE tried way too hard to get us to like her. In the first game, she was okay, gameplay wise. But she seemed purely optional in a way that neither Garrus nor Wrex, the truly optional characters, ever did. I needed Feros for the Cypher and Noveria for the Mu Relay. Why did Liara need to piece it together? Wouldn't I have gathered Ilos's name from the Cypher? From there it's a swift trip to the extranet to find out what it is. The 2nd game made it worse by forcing us to be her friend. I never spoke to her in the first game (I had no idea where to find her), and then, all of a sudden, she's the person I'm hugging? And then there was her shift in personality, which was more forced than the bathroom after Burrito Night. All in all, there was nothing convincing me of whatever talents she had, and she was constantly forced. Putting up with her whining on Thessia was the final straw for me. The entire galaxy has been falling apart for, how long? Weeks? Months? And I'm listening to you whine just because it's your people? Grow up. LotSB was an excellently fun combat mission marred by two things: The super-race yahg, and this stupid whiner.
30.) Wrex - In the first game, Wrex was okay. Forgettable, but most of the personalities were. Then he was turned into Dinosaur Jesus, saving the poor widdle krogan for the big bad salarians. Okay, yeah, I get that you're pissed. But you know, you forced their hands by dropping asteroids on people, and Wrex doesn't possess the awareness enough to recognize it. He has no plans outside of krogan population boom, has little interest in keeping his people in check, and wants ten colony worlds right off the bat. I can accept this: Shortsighted idiots can be fun. But there was no consequences. Wrex magically made the tribal krogan work together by snapping his fingers. The otherwise fun Citadel DLC was marred by everyone trying to suck Wrex's quads, talking about how "awesome the krogan is" and other nonsense. In all, the narrative is richer when you off him in Virmire. Then it becomes a real grey on grey scale. And if the story is richer only because you die, well...
29.) Drack - Drack is basically Wrex with less pretense. Oh, he's still got that "I'm awesome krogan" crap that the devs seemed to shovel down our throats, but at least Drack doesn't pretend to be much more than a krogan-supremacist and battlerager. I can deal with that. I don't like it, and Drack has nothing else going for him other than the fact that he seems to be a stable influence. But that all gets thrown to crap when I choose to save Raeka. I never get the chance to call him on his crap. Why is it I can never call a krogan a racist?
28.) Aria - In the second game, I thought Aria was overblown, but I didn't hate her. When I got that message from Nef's mom, I liked Aria more. Then, the Omega DLC came out. I guarantee you if I never played it, I'd like Aria a lot more. I was sick and tired of her chatter before I reached the first safe room, she yells at me for saving people. WTF, I don't care. The only reason I kept her alive was because I had to. I would've much preferred to make a deal with Oleg.
27.) Jacob - He does one of the worst things I can think of with cheating, but, similar to that one girl in Until Dawn, I can completely avoid it. And in fact, I do. Outside of that, Jacob just...doesn't have anything. Gameplay wise, he's useless the second Grunt comes along, and personality wise, he just came off as cold. It's hard for men to do cold, but he did it. Plus, he was so useless, his cameo in ME3 was even moreso than the actual DLC cameo characters. It was almost like the devs had no idea what to do with him.
26.) Jaal - Emotional dudes can be really fun. Love those full-of-life hard bruisers. But Jaal just came off as a wimp, just whining all the time. I was expecting a fair amount when I met that governor, it was a big moment for the series, meeting an alien species. And then, this guy with all his crying and temper.
25.) Nyreen - She was a Xeno-FemSlash fanfic character and nothing else. And that's a shame, because there was some actual potential here. I'd have loved to have a line of her with Kaidan (about distrust of biotics), Ashley (being blacklisted from something you love) or EDI (a distrust about things that might be true). But we had to kowtow to the badly written fanfic that was Omega. And her death made little sense, given how easy the fights with the Adjutants were.
24.) Morinth - Morinth was a deluded maniac who would tell herself anything to support her cause. And you know what? I'm okay with that. I believed that she believed her own bull. Characters can be deluded: Look at Liara, she clearly was unhinged. The devs though, clearly intended for her to come off as deluded. As such, she was a success. Not a likable one, and I don't hold the devs accountable because the voice actress had a scheduling conflict.
23.) Kenson - I loved her "I can't hear the whispers anymore." It sounded desperate and pleading, and it was nice to see indoctrination, although the glowing eyes would give the whole thing away. I can't say I didn't see it coming, but I did enjoy it regardless.
22.) Wilson - For a second, after he died, I wondered why? I think we learn a lot later what it was. But I was intrigued. For a guest character, it's all you can really hope for.
21.) Liam - His fun attitude isn't bad, but with everyone else in Andromeda acting like the whole adventure is one big road trip rather than "Seriously, the Initiative dies if you screw this", it just doesn't make him stand out. If the others were slightly more serious and Liam was forcing things just so that despair didn't seep in, I'd be his fan. For now, I get a chuckle from time to time. If he had a Suvi like role, he'd be great. Otherwise, he just kinda blended into the background.
20.) James - James was made for the newbie to the series, and I understand why it was done this way. He was unimpressive, but inoffensive, and made me laugh a few times. Like Jacob or Liam, he blended into the background, but he wasn't invasive like Jacob, and responded better to the situation, unlike Liam. He's a benchwarmer, but I still talk to him.
19.) EDI - To be honest, she's only this low because of the sex bot body. I appreciate that Brooks lampshaded it. Her dialogue was well written, and felt like things that a synthetic would say. I enjoy her philosophy on why the geth rebelled, her attempts at humor, and her skill at tech. I even liked her dialogue at the end of Synthesis. But the sex bot ruined it. It gave her a T&A look that ruined her character.
18.) Jack - In the second game, Jack did not endear herself to me. She was useless in battle, thuggish, and her dialogue was cliche. But I loved her evolution. Her banter with the students was great, and the way she laughed (coupled with Courtenay Taylor's excellent VA) was infectious. The love scene, although cliche, was very tender. So yeah, I wish I had a better reason to like her than "Rarg, I'm a badass biotic." In 3, I felt like she was a real person. 2 just made her a caricature.
17.) Cora - I appreciated the fact that Cora accepted me as Pathfinder even though she had every right to be pissed. I also loved her dialogue about greenery, and the "here be dragons" dialogue. I didn't like her asari-splaining asari culture to actual asari, and her whining came off as shallow when Kaidan and Jack had it worse.
16.) Javik - I loved the fact that he was unrepentant about his ruthlessness, and was open to the concept that lots of races working together might be a better choice. But I never felt like he understood the fact that the Protheans LOST the war. His way did not work, and it shouldn't be taken as seriously as that. Citadel made Javik awesome. Out of character, but awesome nontheless.
15.) Grunt - Grunt was the most straightforward of the characters. He loved the fight and was bred to do it. That straightforwardness was refreshing, and I loved fighting alongside him. I understood the lack of depth, but in the end, he felt more like an id, just some simple relief with all these other complicated daddy issue people. He was effective at it, but still kinda shallow.
14.) Peebee - Peebee is many of the things I wish I could say at the asari. But existing only to subvert a stereotype is just as shallow a character as existing as a stereotype. But I did enjoy her straightforwardness, her bluntness. Maybe it's a little biased, but it reminded me of Aetheyta, who I loved.
13.) Ashley - Ashley gets a lot of crap. Some of the reasons (like bugged Marksman) are justified. Others, like her "racism" are not. I think humans are upset with Ashley because she's human and "racist." Lots of the same people justify Wrex's bitterness, yet he's just as racist. In the end, her makeover was unnecessary and her love of poetry was ruined. But so many of her problems came from her writer leaving.
12.) Jenkins - I loved him for a hot minute. He did everything a red shirt should do and made me enjoy it while he did it. What more could I ask from him?
11.) Miranda - Miranda was much more complicated than I gave her credit for. I think she was too self-pitying, but I really liked it when I said "Maybe you'll change your mind when we save the galaxy." In 3, I loved the way she acted, not burdening the savior of the galaxy with her problems. Plus, she was super-effective in battle.
10.) Zaeed - Like Grunt, Zaeed was very straightforward, but he had more depth in his character, and a tragic flaw that needed to be dealt with. Similarly to Velanna in Origins (another character I think was underrated), you could call him on his crap and it could work.
9.) Vetra - She was my turian buddy, and I liked that. Her first scene showcased just what she was about, and I loved that blend of quick wit and compassion for others. Her relationship with her sister felt good and believable. I hated her romance, but she made a great buddy.
8.) Kasumi - Kasumi can be defined mostly by what she isn't. She provided that necessary psychic balance. In essence, she was exactly what Liam didn't do. Everyone in ME2 were soldier types, whereas Kasumi was a civilian. She provided the human perspective, talked about things, and even blended that action and drama together. I could even buy the fact that she didn't want to get involved in ME3 simply because "What would she do?"
7.) Thane - Thane was an alien. And when I play sci-fi, I want alien. I can forgive the "designed for female fanservice" because Thane could be enjoyed without romance. His religion, his detached nature, and the simple way his mission dealt with a loved one on a dark path resonated.
6.) Samara - Samara was Thane with more of the good parts. I could understand her world view and see her as someone who grew up in a way so different from everyone else. I liked that, it's what I want to see with aliens. They need to be different. Her dialogue was well written, her "romance" was deep, I hit that Paragon interrupt the second I got it because I felt.
5.) Kaidan - Kaidan gets lots of flak, and honestly, most of it is undeserved. I liked his mellow view of the world, his genuine regrets, his deep philosophical thinking. I think most people who yell at him for Horizon are blaming him for not knowing stuff he didn't know. Unlike Ash, he talked with the crew, and he felt like he belonged. And his awesome gameplay helped too.
4.) Tali - Tali was cute, fun, spunky, even in the first game when personality was basically cardboard. Her dialogue in the 2nd game really made her the standout, with her "single kiss can put me in the hospital." It really did make me think about growing up detached from the world. Unlike Garrus, her romance seemed to fit her character.
3.) Legion - Legion was a surprise from Day 1 for me, and I loved it. He felt like equal parts alien, child desperate to learn, and desperately conflicted man. His dialogue was spot on, occasionally funny, and always insightful. I didn't see his sacrifice coming, and it tugged on me emotionally.
2.) Garrus - My bro from Day 1, Garrus had a decent personality in 1, was great in 2, and really shined in 3. The good part about him is, unlike Liara, his development felt like it followed a consistent, logical course. Garrus always had a bit of a vigilante streak, so unsurprising he did it in 2. He knew a lot about the Reapers and wanted to help, and it felt like he'd do that when 3 came along. Unlike Liara, who was just stuck whereever, Garrus followed a believable path from the beginning. Only thing I couldn't stand was his romance, it felt tacked on and cheesy.
1.) Mordin - Mordin hit every spot. He was funny, serious, philosophical, poetic, and never wasted a line. Interesting because he said so many of them. Everything he did had a purpose, either his overeagerness to "atone" overriding sense, or regrets over the dead krogan. Any sense with Mordin became a delight. I think that's why he was picked to be a sacrifice. Because it would hurt. Fortunately, I save him.

Kaidan is #1 on my list, but I'll just be happy that he is the only human that made it into the top 10 when most people consider aliens inherently more interesting than humans (which I disagree with).
My top 10:
10.) Thane Krios 9.) EDI 8.) Samara 7.) Garrus Vakarian 6.) Vetra Nyx 5.) Legion *.) Samantha Traynor 4.) Tali'Zorah nar Rayya 3.) Urdnot Wrex 2.) Mordin Solus *.) Karin Chakwas 1.) Kaidan Alenko
* Crew members that would have made it into the top ten if the list wasn't exclusive to squaddies.
