^ associated blog post from bioware blog: BioWare Out Standing in its Field ( link) BioWare is celebrating the reveal of Anthem through a partnership with the Edmonton Corn Maze. The design celebrates our highly-anticipated action-RPG, which features dangerous and lush wilds*.
“It’s a world where you can become lost with your friends,” said game director Jon Warner, “sort of like getting lost in this maze. I mean, what better way to celebrate the growth of our new game than through corn, which also grows?”
The 17-acre field, which in no way represents Anthem’s gameplay, is open to all ages from July 24-October 24, 2017. This is the Edmonton Corn Maze’s 17th year of operation, and BioWare’s 22nd year, which is important background information that doesn’t lend itself to a joke.
“This has been an a-MAZE-ing opportunity for us” said Warner, who paused and waited for his pun to be acknowledged.
The Edmonton Corn Maze is open for visitors Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.
*We cannot confirm nor deny whether Anthem will feature corn in any shape or form.

Game journalist clearly paid off a reviewer to say, "Working with Bioware was fun!" I had to google Edmonton Corn Maze to convince myself that was a real thing, and this vid wasn't totally made up. It's facetious, but not untrue, apparently.

That whole "not RPG" thing got me thinking and now I'm at the point where I've decided all those genre labels are useless. Actually, worse than useless, since they actively confuse people for no good purpose. I think we're much better off saying, "_______ is a game like ______", then fill in the blanks. Anthem is a game like Destiny. Dragon Age Inquisition is a game like Skyrim. I'm not saying that will end all arguments, but at least I'd rather argue about how like or unlike DAI is to Skyrim, than whether it's an Action-RPG, an FRPG, or not an RPG at all. Game Maker's Toolkit touched on this subject, though from the direction of how imitations (soulslike, roguelike, metroidvania, etc.) can establish entire genres, and how that's a totally natural process. Point being, genres evolve, so saying something is or is not RPG is worse than meaningless. There's so much mix-and-match (i.e., stealing of good ideas) going on that all-encompassing genre tags can't capture.

Peter Moore said that, not Aaryn Flynn. Aaryn was asked about it on Twitter and seemed confused by the question. Thank you for your correction. (Who's Peter Moore?) He was the EA exec who did much of the public appearances at E3 and other things. He made the comment about Anthem not being an RPG on an investor call. In February he left to be CEO of a sports organization.

More interesting is the number of writers for this game and their assignments. I wonder if Bio is taking ideas from BF1 and Destiny to come up with a twist of their own. Still, how much Role Playing can there be in a co-op?
I was thinking the same thing and the only way I can see them working out RPG elements in a co-op game such as this would be to have each player have their own world. Sorta similar to Dark souls where you can be summoned to someone else's world, without any of the progress carrying over to your own. Now the only way I can see a system like this working in a much more co-op game was if they provided worthwhile loot and would still allow the player's who are "summoned" to gain experience. TBH I doubt this will be how the game will end up and there are probably other ways to go about incorporating RPG elements. IMO I feel that a system based off this would then allow players to experience different events/endings/story lines that they may have not been able to attain in their world due to certain choices they have made. Thus, with the attraction of loot for assisting friends and the attraction of new story elements being pulls for players to group up together.
