Well that's a humdinger.
Are they trying to make they're own Uncharted?
Where's that damn survey leak for this game already???

If it's MP only I will not be interested. I play games these days to get away from people. I was a heavy MMO player for many years, and while I still sub to SWTOR that game is plenty easy to play alone.
I am excited to hear more about it though, since it's a whole new world.

I can give or take the action-adventure stuff: I like Uncharted, Zelda, that sorta stuff. It's when you bring in online component that I'm out. [ PAUSES] Unless I play it on PC, I suppose. I'm just not gonna pay for online. That'll be a switch for me. ... Switch...

I don't mind them trying something new. There are great action adventure games out there and I think it'd be cool to see biowares take a stab at it.
Multiplayer though I'm always iffy on. If it's required and you miss out on stuff if you don't then I'll likely pass. Simply because my buddies never have same play times as me

I do like action-adventure games, so that part seems really cool to see BioWare try their hand at. I'm interested to see how their writing goes when working on a more linear story. Branching paths are tough. Definitely curious about what type of story they want to tell. I do hope there's still character creation, though. At least to some extent. The thing I like the most about BioWare games is playing MY character. That said, I'd probably still be interested in anything other than a gritty, angsty, stubbly white male.
The MP aspect is worrisome, I admit. I don't wanna write it off before knowing anything, though. But really, despite the years I used to play FFXI, I stay away from playing any kind of multiplayer games, now. Unless Dark Souls counts. Does Dark Souls count? I always thought that they used MP in a very interesting way.
Put me down for curious. I shall remain neutral in my opinion until more information is released.

Anything else in the AAA space (whether the stature of the studio or the quality of the game)?

shinobi602 @shinobi602BioWare's new IP scheduled to launch by the end of FY18 (before March 31, 2018) - EA Conference Call So does this mean Secret IP is official enough to launch a new sub forum? Or wait until there is at least a name for the game, lol?

I'll admit, I'm a bit skeptical. Though 99.9% of that is because we've seen next to nothing of the game. The other 0.1% is because i'm almost exclusively an RPG guy haha. It'll make me expand my horizons at the very least. I'm sure for the action genre it'll be down right amazing with you all working on it, my own tastes and love of story-focus just has me a bit worried for my own personal enjoyment. HOWEVER, "Studio fans can still expect to see “the great RPG character development and story progression that BioWare is known for,” Wilson continued" helps quite a lot.

“It’s an action-adventure, not RPG,” Wilson added during the Q&A portion of the call. That’s a change of pace for BioWare, which is best known for its role-playing game franchises. Studio fans can still expect to see “the great RPG character development and story progression that BioWare is known for,” Wilson continued. WTF does that mean? It ain't an RPG, but it's got all the good stuff we put in an RPG? So, basically, just like DAI?

If it was a SP action-adventure, I'd be all over it. MP... not so much. Still, I'm curious to see what this is all about, even if winds up not being for me. I may be foolish to get my hopes up, but I'm hoping its single player but allows your friends to 'visit' your world if you wish. Similar to what the most recent Fable installment was (although the 'visiting' technology was hopelessly flawed in that example, but Bioware could improve it).

Action-adventure is very broad. It could mean a lot of things. And when I played them the most, it was like, PS2 era, so a lot of those were platformers. I could see the argument that even Mass Effect could count. My favorite games that I would consider action-adventure include games like Zelda or Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, Shadow of the Colossus, Thief, and more recently, things like Assassin's Creed. If first-person games count, then Mirror's Edge and Dishonored, too. I haven't played Uncharted (never had a PS3). I don't know if others would agree with my list. Clearly, my definition is probably out of date. But, those are the games that come to mind for me.

Regarding these similar comments:Not an RPG? And MP? Going after the Destiny crowd maybe...? The fact that it's not a role playing game is worrisome. Even moreso with the emphasis seemingly on multiplayer. If it was a SP action-adventure, I'd be all over it. MP... not so much. Still, I'm curious to see what this is all about, even if winds up not being for me. I suspected they'd try to mix some rpg features with a new genre. Regardless, I'm quite interested to see the new world, lore, and characters they built up. Yep, the MP aspect is off-putting, but the fact that it's still apparently story-heavy and with focus on characters keeps me interested. I was going to offer some examples of action games that have an online component that is totally optional, like the entire Dark Souls/Bloodbourne series, but then there was this:
"At the end of the fiscal year, our BioWare studio will be delivering an all-new IP, a clean-sheet design with new concepts, new gameplay mechanics, and new stories set in a unique new universe," Wilson said. " This game has the potential to fundamentally disrupt the way people think about an action title, bringing friends together to play in an exhilarating new way. We're very excited about the future of this new franchise and its ability to attract a large, global audience. Ruh-roh. I mean, the "new way" argues against FPS, MOBA, and MMO, since those are all as old as dirt, but given how hard they are hyping it, I suspect the MP aspect might be more central than I had hoped. Maybe something like Borderlands? Which is online co-op, but optional. You can solo the game, but it's a somewhat less interesting experience without co-op pals. But again, that's not new. Certainly not asymmetric MP, like Evolve or Last Year, those both tanked.

While I'm a bit alarmed by the MP hype and the "RPG that ain't an RPG" description, I'm intrigued by the possibility that they've figured out a way to impose a strong narrative, or at least, interesting characters, onto an MP sandbox framework. No one has ever done that before, although I think CDPR was heading that way with Cyberpunk 2077, right? And it would make sense that they'd try to stake a claim in the future territory of one of their biggest competitors. And cyberpunk was on the short list for genres in our speculation. In possibly related news, Square Enix is downsizing their plans for the Deus Ex franchise. They were on a trajectory to turn it into a Destiny evergreen-style release model, but since MD didn't do as well as HR, they've scaled back. And speculation is that they also have their hands full with the Marvel IP. www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/01/30/deus-ex-may-be-taking-a-very-long-vacation-as-square-enix-turns-to-marvel/#28b3af45e0b3

By Destiny, I meant maybe in the vein of having a small team working together in an MMO or semi-sorta MMO world with a storyline. But say there's a stronger storyline/NPCs (as you said) and more act/adv game mechanics. Ofc, the first thing I think of is Tomb Raider so now I'm just imagining team environment puzzles involving cracker-jack timing and coordination... But was that what CDPR was going for with CP2077 for their MP? I've only heard there was a MP along with the SP, but I hadn't heard any details. Interesting...

Gamespot: BioWare Launching Its New Action Franchise By April 2018www.gamespot.com/articles/bioware-launching-its-new-action-franchise-by-apri/1100-6447440/?ftag=GSS-05-10aaa0b"At the end of the fiscal year, our BioWare studio will be delivering an all-new IP, a clean-sheet design with new concepts, new gameplay mechanics, and new stories set in a unique new universe," Wilson said. "This game has the potential to fundamentally disrupt the way people think about an action title, bringing friends together to play in an exhilarating new way. We're very excited about the future of this new franchise and its ability to attract a large, global audience." When pressed for further details during the Q&A portion of the call, Wilson described it as an action-adventure game, rather than an RPG, and suggest it will blend genres. "What we're seeing more and more is genre-melding, which is great components of a number of different genres really kind of coming together into single games," he said. "And so when you think about this game, you should be thinking about the great RPG character development and storyline progression that BioWare is known for, but in a world of greater action and greater adventure, which is growing to be one of the larger categories in games." ...Well I have no idea what to make of this I am curious though.
