Well it sounded too good to be true anyway. I guess we'll have to wait longer to find out what it's gonna be.
what I do not understand is the terms the polygon article quoted, "disruptive new social" design? What does it mean? Do they want to make a game were people need to compete and be horrible to one another? That would be a downer. But I guess it's more like something that prompts you to group up? Just sounded strange.
This worries me too, but for a different reason. They are setting the bar awfully high with all this hype about disruptive co-op. It makes no sense. They're doing a good job of downplaying the rest of the game, why hype the one thing that is high risk to be a disappointment? To actually meet the expectation they are setting up, it has to be a quantum leap better/different than Destiny/Division or else everyone is going to roll their eyes and say, "it's a me too."

Honestly, I am not sure what's going on and why, b/c the news their PR lets through and how it is worded is really getting over-regulated. I'll just wait till it is very close to release. Andromeda's info was spot in the couple of months right before the release.

I can't help thinking that one of MEA's issues was having its launch right up against the end of the Financial Year 2016/17. EA loves money.
By setting expectations now that 'Dylan' won't be March 2018 relieves some of the pressure, allowing a May, October or November 2018 release (even March 2019 but I'd be surprised) .
BioWare said in December 2016 that the game was at an advanced stage.
When it launches, it'll need to be polished.

As long as the MP/MMO set up does not kill the game for the SP crowds. I thanked my stars that I had friends that explained that very thing to me, that you don't have to, if you don't want to. Because otherwise I'd have missed out on pretty much the strongest BioWARE game in terms of story handling, replayability and Player Character development. But SWTOR is not normally played as an SP title, and by now is just a mess.

We'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if it's repeated in game PR. Besides, given the paucity of info about Dylan, it wouldn't take a genius to realize that the gaming rumor-mongers journalists would jump on that phrase and hype it to gamers as a scoop. So, whether intended or not, it is gaming hype to gamers.

Sure, you can play a lot of SWTOR solo but many story heavy flashpoints and ALL operations require a group and this is where you can get the best gear and cosmetic rewards in the game unless you are willing to spend a LOT of money gambling on Cartel Market Crates or playing the game like a second job to the save up the tens of millions of credits you need to buy it from someone else.
As an example, my favourite speeder in the game is called the Covert Gateway and it is a rare drop on a 1-boss operation and then you have to roll for it so you likely have a 1 in 8 chance of actually getting it because everyone wants it (even if they already have it) because that speeder currently sells for 300 MILLION credits on my server and even if you buy it (I bought two a few years ago when they were MUCH cheaper), you can only use it on one character and that's it. You can't even unlock it for your other characters (which costs real-life money for other things you can unlock.)
What single player game makes you go through all that for one cool mount? Or a set of armour?
In online games, the best stuff will always be super exclusive because every wants to show off how special they are and they like having something that you don't. It's not fun.

Yeah I tried SWTOR for about a year, and while I really enjoyed the story and characters, at the end of the day it is still an MMO. I'd much rather have had Kotor 3 through 9 or whatever it was they promised the game would be. I still think it was a huge missed opportunity not to make another SP Kotor when there was so much demand for it. Same with Battlefront 3.

I stopped playing because it was too much of a slog to get through the MMO stuff for the SP stuff too.
But the problem was with MMO side, not the story side. As long as that side is maintained, I'm willing to give the rest of it a chance.
SWTOR would have been better if the excellent story elements were contained within a true single-player successor to the previous KOTOR games. The MMO thing was an unnecessary cash grab and resulted in a weaker game.
Imagine if SWTOR was actually a single player game. Done in Unreal Engine, with all 8 stories and an upgraded combat system based on Mass Effect. That would've been a wet dream, and that game would've sold like hotcakes, and still be played/talked about a lot to this day. A well written Single Player RPG that lets you live out your class fantasy in Star Wars? EA, HIRE ME!

Sure, graphics and combat might have been better if they would make SWTOR a single player game, but since Bioware uses MMO-style quest design and storytelling in their latest SP games I'm not certain if getting rid of multiplayer content would make things any better.
Both Andromeda and Inquisition feel a lot like empty SWTOR, why not play 'full' SWTOR instead...

True, DA:I and ME:A made me appreciate SWTOR more. If you ignore the microtransaction begging and grinding it's pretty good. And for about a year or something, you don't even have to grind anymore. The singleplayer is a very enjoyable cake walk.

I'd say the problem is that justifying the budget needed to do all those class stories is hard to do even with the cash cow of the MMO subscription model. That's why they switched to a single story in the subsequent expansions.

Because i feel that the SP and MP content are more tightly intertwined than we probably know, the world does depend on other players to fill it up with more than spawns, the graphic is dated by now, and it is still prophitable to push out the chapters. Also, where do you cut off SWTOR the SP? At Risha, where the class story ends? Ilum, Makeb and everything after Rishi is really more of a strange DLC package than the game itself. All and all, SWTOR would make one hell of an sp game, but they already offered much of it for free, and the gameplay is unnecessary complicated for an sp title too, and those ops... well they probably can be rebuild into an MP component, but as an SP battles.... no, just not going to work, but boy were they truly awesome...
anyway, I know even older games get remastered, and I would likely buy SWTOR-SP, particularly if it does bundle in the new chapters.
but does BioWare need another shitstorm about killing KOTOR the way they killed ME? Because the same people who hated Andromeda will hate SWTOR sp even more because it suffers from the same problems and worse if you take the MP component out.
sometimes I think about picking the sub and playing it, but the whole mess of the new content, companions and that insane level 65 skills bs, and gear... I just... can't.
