ME:A was delayed as well and it was still buggy af. I am concerned. Actually, the buggy release of MEA and the negative press around it could be part of the reason they're willing to push out the release date.

I'm going with "They saw Destiny 2 officially coming to PC and EA decided 'Dylan' wasn't enough to compete and asked BioWare to add more stuff".

I'm not too surprised this was delayed since we have next to no information about it and it was supposed to release in less than a year. If you have a new IP (and you actually want people to play it), you need to hype it up. Continuing to be secretive is a recipe for disaster.
Still holding out some hope for this game despite it not being an RPG. I'm definitely ready for a new IP after years of only ME and DA (which I love but ready for something new).

Ashe ladyinsanity Bioware new IP launch date confirmed to be moved to fiscal year 2019. - That would mean a delay past March 30th, 2018. Well it sounded too good to be true anyway. I guess we'll have to wait longer to find out what it's gonna be. what I do not understand is the terms the polygon article quoted, "disruptive new social" design? What does it mean? Do they want to make a game were people need to compete and be horrible to one another? That would be a downer. But I guess it's more like something that prompts you to group up? Just sounded strange.

Wonder now what we will see at this years e3 .i cant see a year delay in a game as a good sign
Either its so bad/not what ea now wants/2 risky so they are starting over or there has been a shift in priorities and maybe da4 has been greenlit first

Okay, the best google can tell me when searched for "disruptive social design" in videogames that ther eare some new trends or something bringing up tons of really long articles, where I cannot find that specific term. I can only guess that it is connected to being linked into mobile phones from context. Can't say I am interested in that being a big part of the game, because I don't really play games on my tablet. (Sigh)

This whole social media thing is not for the sweet old ladies. Chances to get any sort of a satisfactory answer is practically null.

But really I think they use the word "disruptive" to portray themselves as being on the bleeding edge of... something.

This whole social media thing is not for the sweet old ladies. Chances to get any sort of a satisfactory answer is practically null. "Disruptive" is a tech buzzword. It comes from tech journalists' tendency to say things like "Uber is disrupting the transportation space!" or "Venmo is disrupting the old banking model!" A "disruptive" technology is anything that (supposedly) shakes up the old order and creates new winners and losers. It "disrupts" an industry. At this point, the word has been watered down to the point where it basically just means... "new". So they probably mean "we plan to disrupt the multiplayer landscape" (that is, come out with a new game format) rather than "we expect players to behave disruptively".

Even if there are some coop multiplayer activities, like the Strikes in Destiny, I don't think that will bother me as much as long as there's matchmaking.
Nothing vexes me more about Destiny than the lack of matchmaking for Raids and Nightfall Strikes.
And as long as those are secondary to the single player story experience.

Disruptive used as a synonym to "innovative", so what they are saying is they are researching innovative ways to introduce social interactions. I guess something better than Origins chat window, lol.

Lol...I know what they meant. That's the problem. I'm not a big fan of multiplayer stuff. In my fantasy land, "disruptive" means, "We're going to say there's MP in this game, but really there isn't. See? Disruptive!" Maybe this will be the game that changes my mind. I hope so, because I really want to like it. Either that, or I can completely ignore the MP and not miss out on anything. We shall see.

For me it's more of a concern of gaming becoming a daily routine or it becomes pointless to play it due to gearing. But, yes, I do prefer SP style as well, though good pugs like in ME3MP on a low difficulty level are okay.

Brianne Battye @bbattyeAs of this weekend, I’ve spent 5 years working on video games. That’s… well, that’s crazy! It’s been exciting & scary & frustrating & fun. I’ve had the opportunity to meet, work with, and learn from incredible, talented people and I thank them. 💜💜💜💜 I'm trying to word gratitude for the art, thoughts, and stories people have shared with me along the way... know that it means a lot!

I know times have changed a bit, but wasn't DAO developed for at least 7 years? DA:O took a little over 6 years to develop. I think the creation of New IP (in general) is important though, even if this specific game doesn't sound like it's for me. But yeah, no question it's a risk, especially given the costs of game development these days. It's curious though why we're hearing about a delay now, a full 10 months ahead of their original release date. If they know it's going to take longer at this point, there must be some significant hurtle/scope creep/etc. in this project. I'm thinking this isn't going to be a small delay. Sorry for the slight necro, but I'd fallen behind on my Secret IP news. I just wanted to say, as a counter-argument, it can't go too late, because then either, a) there's a huge gap between ME:A and whatever comes next, with no new revenue coming in, or, it starts to upstage DA:4, which could be bad if it's a hit, overshadowing DA:4, or bad if it tanks, pulling DA:4 down with it.

Didn't they state before that we should expect the game around March 2018, which is the very end of their fiscal year? I mean, it'd seem like they were really pushing it with release date, but the snag they've encountered is just too big for Bioware to make it in time. Yeah, they were saying ~March 2018. Typically, you won't hear about a game being delayed until a few weeks to a couple of months before release. If they're delaying it now, it means that they know they can't make the usual adjustments to their development (cut content, etc.) to be able to make that deadline, even looking 10 months ahead. So it has to be something significant, something they know they can't triage their way around... Not necessarily. It could be a "get all the bad news over with in one shot" sort of PR move. If there was a high risk of a slip in Secret IP, they might have decided to bundle the bad news with the "Mass Effect being put on the back shelf" bad news?
