I must say, and I know I sort of mentioned this before, but the way everyone insists on how you can play this game "with friends," how you can make stories "with your friends," how this is something you can share "with friends," is... bizarre. Yes, we get it; in fact, we got it the first five times it was said. I'm starting to suspect is some sort of marketing thing, like they were sat down and told "Okay, everyone, no matter what you're talking about, as long as it is even tangentially related to this game you make sure the phrase 'with friends' makes its way in somewhere." It's specially strange because it comes across as so antithetical to Bioware, a company known for making single player games and filling them with fake virtual friends so you don't have to find any real people to play with, a proud tradition stretching all the way back to Baldur's Gate. It's probably because bioware is known for single player games that they keep emphasizing the playing with friends bit. So that people who like co op won't see the word bioware and immediately dismiss it as not for them. EXACTLY THIS. In fact, one might argue that Bioware is a slight negative in the branding of this IP, considering the wider game-buying market and the action/co-op game type. I'd bet money that at some point in the 5 year dev period of this game, someone suggested spinning off a new studio from Bioware, but using all Bioware people, just to avoid the brand confusion. The emphasis on friends this and friends that is DEFINITELY marketing hype. Get your friends to buy the game! And their friends, and their friends, and their friends. It works. I felt a lot of pressure to buy Battlefield:Hardline because all my FPS friends moved to it, despite having less than zero interest in a cops vs. robbers shooter. |

I'd describe myself somewhere between Woo! and wanting to learn more. Right now, after hearing I can play by myself, I'm definitely interested in the game a lot, and I'll most likely play it. Whether it's a day-one buy, or something I wait to dabble with eventually, is yet to be determined. I'm very optimistic so far, though. |

I am curious what sort of experience they provide for a solo casual player. I mentioned earlier that if it follows the Destiny pattern, singleplayer would just be degenerate co-op. There might be some raids and world events you can't do without a squad, and you'll have to grind more to keep up with players who play in a squad, but other than that, you should be able to play the solo and never talk to another living soul. There's an outside chance they might have singleplayer-only content, but I doubt it. Look at the scope of that thing. It's going to take a lot of effort to keep that going just for the co-op crowd. |

True, but Destiny's single player story was still fun. That and the PUG co-ops kept me playing for a few months. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, the Destiny missions remind me a lot of the Mass Effect Andromeda tasks. Lots of go-here-click/kill-this type of missions. Destiny was WAY more imaginative though. |
