The enemy sounds at 4:41 in the gameplay video sound more like talking in another language than growls. Other intelligent life on the planet? Yeah, it looks like the Scars are a technologically advanced race themselves. Jon did mention something about humans being at the bottom of food chain - kinda curious what that means. Ruins (on planet that is not Earth) we are meant to explore likely means some advanced civilization or remains of it. |

I WANT TO BELIEVE! And what about Kal-Sharok? Stir some of those gorgeous Descent environments together with a nice dense city hub, that would be some fine dwarven craft. And Rivain and Antiva and the necropolis in Nevarra and... okay maybe I'm getting a little too ambitious here. Love me some cities, though.  Omg, stahp. I'm going to pass out. This demo has somehow managed to make me both interested in Anthem and even more excited for the prospect of DA4. Well played, Biovar. Well played. Of all the possible outcomes of watching the gameplay, I did not expect to get 1000000% amped for Dragon Age in the process. But holy shit am I hyped. Imagine something like that bigass storm happening in the Fade! Or getting knocked into the ocean by a dreadnought's cannon blast, and having to swim back to surface! Being mobbed, dynamically, by merchants in the city, begging for help with their quests! |

But yeah, for a while now I've been putting out theory that all that environment or city building won't be going to waste, now that the studio is fully on Frostbite, and they'll just keep building up their new games on what they built so far. I am fairly certain that my theory holds water. |

I must say, and I know I sort of mentioned this before, but the way everyone insists on how you can play this game "with friends," how you can make stories "with your friends," how this is something you can share "with friends," is... bizarre. Yes, we get it; in fact, we got it the first five times it was said. I'm starting to suspect is some sort of marketing thing, like they were sat down and told "Okay, everyone, no matter what you're talking about, as long as it is even tangentially related to this game you make sure the phrase 'with friends' makes its way in somewhere." It's specially strange because it comes across as so antithetical to Bioware, a company known for making single player games and filling them with fake virtual friends so you don't have to find any real people to play with, a proud tradition stretching all the way back to Baldur's Gate.

This game looks far ahead of MEA as far as graphics and animations go. Now we know where that budget went  The statement about there still being a BioWare story and ability for solo play keeps me hopefull for this game. I would guess, however, that they've tossed the conversation wheel for this one and that this is part of the reason why the animations can be so much better than MEA. If they can bring the sort of city life we see in the opening to the other BW IPs then  Also, it looks like Bioware have misplaced the ugly stick:  ...just kidding. Didn't see the conference, was stuck in a birthday party that went way too long.
Ok, so what i do think? Well it looks amazing, like probably the most beautiful game i've ever seen. Then again this is pre-rendered and there will probably be a small graphical downgrade, even with Frostbite which is capable of fantastic things. What little they showed of gameplay was sweet, diving underwater, flying around and so on. The few powers they showed off had punch to them, like bam. Weather effects are great, and i really enjoyed the storm that came rolling down at the end.
Looks like you'll be able to join people mid mission, so i have a feeling it will be playable with from 1 - 4 players, which again is fantastic. Bioware had co-op in their old games, and for some reason removed it, i wanted it back for a long time. So yeah, hyped! But i'll keep my expectations in check.

It's just that the game, assuming it's gonna be a Destiny like game, has nothing new on it. I don't see a story, I just see shooty-shooty and pretty graphics. I mean, that's what they decided to show on stage after all... You could say the same about Dragon Age or Mass Effect - I don't see a story, just magic/laser pew pews and dragons/alien mutants. Where Bioware games shine is in the details, the depth of world-building, the nuances of the story, not "oh, everything is so DISTINCT!" Heck, Dragon Age Origins was in fact INTENTIONALLY generic-looking and gratuitously using various well-known fantasy tropes for specific purpose of feeling familiar and they're open about this! Yet it's still a distinctly Bioware game and series thanks to totality of the game and experience it offers. |

So, how's it being received? What's the vibe out there? People seem warily excited, I'd say. Even youtube is like "whoa...", even though the usual grumps were quick to pour vitriol at the teaser. The most the grumps say now is "Well, it's a CLONE of everything, nothing original!" or "ME wa sacrificed for this..."... which, from my viewpoint, seem that so far they have not yet been given much to jump at yet. |
