I think 3 years is a good estimate. Indeed - they have build the foundation on witch upon an next game can be build. Until now we have only seen one cluster of the Andromeda galaxy. It will be interesting to see if they reach other clusters (by building a rough equivalent of a mass relay), and thus have a possibility to meet more races.
I hope we see a continuation of the Ryder twins. Maybe each with his/her's own ship and crew, so you can have two "story's" at the same time, that are somehow interlinked? Time will tell, but I am looking forward to ME:A-2.

I think three years at the very least, and even that might be a bit optimistic. BioWare doesn't have the manpower to work on their 3 IPs, plus whatever Austin is up to, at full production at the same time. With Secret IP coming next year (allegedly), and DA coming in 2019 at the earliest, I could see a potential ME:A sequel being launched in 2021, only a very smooth production process would get them to make it for 2020, me thinks.

it better not be another five years for a sequel....
.... so we can finally have reused caves like in DA2 again.

I'd rather it take 5+ years for the next one as long as its more fleshed out and polished.

If they skip a multiplayer and take time to learn from the massive number of mistakes they made in this one, I could see two years. If they decide to botch it again, you're looking at 4 to 5 years with a multiplayer that more than likely doesn't learn anything from the last. MP is going to stay. EA wants micro-transactions in their games. If they remove MP then it will be tied into the SP game. Leave it in MP and keep it separate from the SP. I could careless about MP anyway. I would guess 3 yrs max. There will be lots of copy and paste so it shouldn't take them too long to do that. Hopefully the next game they focus more on story, choice, and consequence. That is what brought them fame in the first place and it severely lacking in their last two attempts.

Anyone else wonder if they are gonna put out a sequel in two or three years or will it be a very very long time Next March is the new IP, then the DA4 is due... so, if the game is not out in 2-3 years, at the very least we'll know if it is coming or not.

You referring to Dylan correct, and not the Kotor remake? Yep, the one that was actually announced by Bio in a small cryptic press-release. As far as I got it, the KOTOR remake was a hybrid between a pipe dream and a spoof. And if ther eis one thing I don't want to be remade, it's KOTOR, heh. Jade Empire, YES< SIR< where do I sign up! KOTOR? Not after 3 years of SWTOR, no, thanks.

It kind of sounds boring when you don't care for Jedis or the force. I only enjoyed the non force user stories.

The game overall was not their strongest, neither for the cast, nor for the story itself. I did like all the stories in SWTOR save for the Jedi Knight and the IA, and tbh, rather than try to reboot KOTOR, I'd rather see them take SWTOR off-line, and preserve the absolute uniqueness and daring of the eight intertwined stories, and the wealth of customization it offers in a weeded SP campaign. But weeding is hard, and the time is ticking on graphics. Plus, the combat in SWTOR is tragically convoluted.

The smuggler and Imperial Agent are my favourite stories out of all of them, but yeah, the combat is lacking. If they were working on that young boba fet game which got cancelled, I would be fine with that.

If they were working on that young boba fet game which got cancelled, I would be fine with that. It did not matter so much to me which story I liked more, and which - less, for me, SWTOR was their most impressive game because of how the stories were all different and how they interacted with one another to build up the picture of the Republic-Empire conflict through the 8 different PoVs with the wealth of companions and customizations. It was so much better than KOTOR proper with just Revan, or anything else smallish. Also, A Bounty Hunter >>>> any named one, no matter how cool. I loved the BH in SWTOR... awesome voicing.
IMO SWTOR was really a triumph in terms of enjoying a character you can create and play a wide variety of distinctive personalities and all in the context of one story, one world... anyway, I am disappointed that they have never remade the game for the SP and Consoles crowd. Picking KOTOR over SWTOR is starting to sound like someone with a decision making power has a serious fixation on Revan. More of an obsession than any of the players actually had with Revan....
But, then again, maybe folks at large won't appreciate what I appreciate about SWTOR, and will just start picking each individual story apart, this quest or that quest... meh. Maybe Revan is safer, lol. I won't be buying it though. I remember it well enough and not too fondly, and I have played with light-sabers to my little' heart's content.

Makes sense. I won't be picking it up because he is a jedi/sith.

Since quality is becoming pulp why not a two-year cash cow. No need to prolong a waning Bioware. Use what is left and throw it away when used up.

Sequels that take a long time to come out often mean they've had time, thought and effort put at the forefront of development. The Elder Scrolls series is an incredible example of how taking your sweet time can produce unimaginable results. That said, does it need to take five years for a new Mass Effect? I don't think so. I believe three years is a fairly reasonable expectation.

I'd say it's probably 3 years. I doubt the team as is will make the next game, since this one, aside from personal opinions about whether one likes open worlds or the story or Ryder's personality, had and has a ton of technical issues in both SP and MP. The reshuffling of staff will probably take time. On the other hand, I imagine a lot of work this time was that they had to switch engines to Frostbite and that is done now.

They technically have the systems built so they can spend way less time on pre-production for sequels. Like ME123 you'll probably see 1-2 years cut off of the dev cycle unless they decide to switch technology again.

There is already a fondation for MEA 2, no need to build a game from scratch, they can rely on what they have already done, so its going to be shorter. No competent builder would build on a foundation this shaky.

Maybe if the next Mass Effect game taxes 6 years to make they can give the Asari more than one face?

Not just project management. It's the entire studio management that's starting to seem like a mess. No doubt it's hard as hell to run 3 friggin studios (4 if we count BioWare Vancouver which I hear will be made soon) but they hire bad industry experts (Wynn, Manveer and some others come from vaporware or defunct developers) and they hire too many people who seem to have been met at cons or something because the nerd-culture is rampant based on my BioWare Twitter feed. Also cut the nepotism some slack BioWare, and whoever is the guy approving the hires. Unfortunately I think it's very common in AAA actually. Look at Nintendo of America and their 3 or 4 IGN employees that used to write super biased and overly favoring Nintendo games or Mitch friggin Dyer from IGN writing for Battlefront 2. You just know it's because the dude had a beer with someone from DICE and that's how he got hired.
