I don't like the idea of others in-game seeing my Origin name (as my origin name is not specific to Anthem). What is the point of call signs then?

You can alter your Origin name if you'd like, via your Origin account settings I believe. Although it is a little bit superficial and I wouldn't worry about it too much - there are plenty of odd and wonderful names out there in multiplayer games!

(I think it's good that they are fearlessly cutting stuff they had shown in the E3 2017 trailer. That's a good thing, since it was 2 years ago and things should change in that amount of time, but you know how the haters are about "false advertising" and crap like that. I can see the Yong Yea clickbait title now: ANTHEM CUTS E3 CONTENT, WHAT WILL THEY LIE ABOUT NEXT?)

Hell, this happens even in MMOs, where you create new character and NEED to choose a name. Most games have some kind of protection against most ridiculous names, but "FaaapBoy"s, "P3nis" and other ridiculous names still happen. So no need to worry about your account name

OK xgigabytex … but folks could see your Origin name in ME3MP as well as MEAMP … I didn't play it, but I assume that was also true for DAIMP.
I guess if you didn't play any of those (or other EA MP games), that might be a new concept for you, so …

Thanks for the welcome...lol. This is actually new to me (haven't played those games mentioned. I am mostly an MMO dude). I'm a hardcore gamer (when I have the bandwidth/time) as well as an avid RPGer and personally my character's name is important, particularly what others see, comparable to gear. So I don't understand why my Origin account name should be coupled to Anthem. This limits the names you can choose since it needs to be unique across all origin accounts as opposed to just in the game. If I play multiple games, and I render my account name to be compatible to one game, it then usually becomes incompatible with another. IMHO, I just feel it's a bad system and unnecessary but what do I know. In any case, my question is, if no one sees your call sign, what is the point of a call sign?
Just got this tid-bit from Ben Irvo on Reddit (should this stuff go here, or the EWKAA Discussion thread?). OP was bummed why there is a transition between leaving Fort Tarsis and entering the world. Why not just walk out of the Hub, like in MMOs or Diablo?

Free Play is what you are after. There are a few “start” points for Free Play to save you flying all over the map. There is one outside Fort Tarsis if that’s where you want to start
