And whilst it's not Anthem related, "prioritizing [Battlefield V's ]single-player campaign over battle royale also hurt sales."
So EA's takeaway from BV: Single player content: bad. Battle Royale: good.
I'd say the pressure to add PVP to Anthem will only increase then. Actually, stick Battle Royal into Dragon Age 4, that could be more likely too.
{Note: I think EA might have misread what cost Battlefield V sales)
Not only EA just launched an apparently successful Battle Royale game from Respawn, I think they got their butts handed to them when they tried to steadily make their games similar to their money-raking sports games. So I think even the greediest bastard one can find in EA understands that one doesn't put eggs in one basket and that what works in one game (straightforward shooters) doesn't necessarily work in others (co-op looter-shooter or sRPG with small multiplayer). I may be wrong about that, naturally, but Anthem hasn't yet launched and neither us nor them had seen whether the whole live service model works yet, so it's too early to tell whether any Bioware title will get a BR mode, or whether Anthem gets a PVP at all (I see a lot of heated debate about that - some people want PVP, some don't and some other claim that PVP is possible, but not a typical one, but more teams competing with one another to reach some sort of objective...),

Anyone thinks that this game needs a shoulder switch mechanic.
Lol, after MEA I kept trying to do that. Yeah, that would be a nice feature.
I'm trying to think of what button they could use though. (from a console players PoV) Down pressing the left thumbstick is flight, right thumbstick is hover, Y is melee, B is dodge or shield activation, A is jumping, and the bumpers are skills. The only place I can see it being available on is the d-pad, but even then it has to share space with the Ultimate (up pad) and emote (down pad). Can't remember what left and right did.
If left and right pads are also for emotes, maybe the could consolidate all the emotes into the down pad. You press it once, you use the emote. Holding it down lets you select what emote you want tied to the down pad.
EDIT: Something else to consider is that they also need to account for the change in positioning of weapons, skills, and ultimates; requiring different animation sets. Could also interfere with the weapon models and allow for clipping.

2- Excited about Apex but not Anthem.... I'm holding my breath
3- deep-lineup of new experiences .... nah.. I'm not going to say it.
We know you're not excited about Anthem but EA and apparently the gamers are...
"Millions of fans played more than 40 million hours of Anthem in our recent demos, and we’re very pleased to see the excitement in retail and digital channels reaching higher-than-expected levels"
"Millions of fans"?
Bio can give out a hard number in hours but can't do the same for the number of individual account holders/ codes that played the demo?
Strange...
Morpheus: "know what happened happened and that it could not have happened in any other way".
That was a not so subtle cherry picking Sartoz. I am not a english native but even then it is very obvious the text is listing the products EA is excited to bring in the next quarter.
You mean in addition to the usual sport games? I guess EA meant games in the mobile space.

Why would individual account holders matter, when this week's demo was open and they gave away VIP codes like candy? It doesn't translate to game sales - the number of hours played, however, indicate that a lot of gamers didn't just download and try the game for an hour or so, but put serious play time into their sessions (and we could only play for two weekends, so there's a limit to that per player) and are now considering or already made a pre-order - more than that, EA and Bioware seem pleased as Punch with how Anthem retail is doing so far.

I just love how the "higher-than-expected" got ignored in order to get in some kind of negativity spin. No doubt pleased as punch will get the same treatment.

PapaCharlie9 : I don't care about EA playing it close to their chest. But if they want to do that, they should stop lying about it. Just issue a simple statement as an answer to all inquires regarding MTX:
Our roadmap for MTX in Anthem for the first three months is done, we will release the pricing model one week prior to the launch of the game.
Why? What advantage is there to EA or their shareholders to do this? "Easing concerns?" As if. The people who think EA lies 100% of the time wouldn't believe it anyway, and it makes no difference to everyone else, since what they want to know is how much everything will cost. A statement of when the pricing model will be released plus $60 will buy you the standard edition of the game.
Look, EA is greedy as hell, there's no denying that, but you can't expect them to go out of their way to prove it to everyone, just by demanding they do so. Hell, they do a good enough job of that by accident. It takes quite a twist to turn a refusal to answer a demand to self-incriminate into "lying". "Do you still beat your wife?" Aha, you refused to answer, so you are beating your wife and you're lying about it!

Well fuck me. If that's true ... and I think a large grain of spin salt needs to be taken with the narrative of any quarterly earnings statement ... I might have to take back what I said about the beta/demos being an unmitigated marketing disaster. If pre-orders exceeded their demo targets, that's one in the eye for all the nattering nabobs of negativity.

I figure that if the demo left a considerable portion of people like myself - feeling a bit empty when realizing that I still have to wait at least more than a week before I open the game again even if to just fly and explore stuff/kick stuff in the face - then it has has fulfilled its purpose, regardless of the amount of warts it came with.

Ya think.
This is pretty typical quarterly earnings spin. Particularly since the last quarter was bad for everyone: you can sweep all your bad financial news into the quarter and blame it on an external event.
The truth is that Battlefield's SP campaigns have always been bad, bolted on the side, poor imitations of COD:MW's SP campaign. I don't even think I bothered to try the BF4 SP campaign, since the BF3 one was so bad. I'd be surprised if 1% of people buying BFV stated "the SP campaign" as their primary reason, or even any reason at all. This means they are using the SP campaign as a stalking horse. For what, though?
One, it could be to shore up that idiotic, "much more linear game, that people don’t like as much today as they did five years ago or 10 years ago," narrative.
Two, it could be that they want to set the stage for introducing battle royale in some other game. Anthem, god forbid, or DA4?
Three, they had intended all along to introduce battle royale in BFV, but because it wasn't ready (read, buggy mess), they held it back, and now this is the cover story.

That's obviously intentional. They want to brag, but any player count number they state that isn't blowout ginormous is going to be more bad PR than good. So instead, they pick a number that is close enough to blowout ginormous and hope no one notices the details.
It's not that they can't, it's that there is no upside to saying what the number is. I'm sure they know to the single digits exactly how many players there were. As well as how many players failed to get past the 95% loading screen ...

Yeah, but there were a lot of threads on Reddit with people saying that the demo convinced them to cancel their pre-orders. A lot. In comparison, I saw exactly one that said they went from being skeptical to convinced to pre-order by the demo. And r/ATG is considered the hype circlejerk, biased to the positive (a judgment I tend to agree with).

Tiago Carmo @tiagocarmo360 Need better Pc controls
Michael Gamble @gamblemike Well @benirvo is all over that
Space Shinobi @shinobi_space PC controls and menuing if I may add. FOV guys... pretty well known need for PC players. I can get used (if I really ahve to) to the weird mission launch stuff but... Cannot forgive a "no FOV slider" situation. Love you guys and the way you are handeling this so far... on SNS.
Michael Gamble @gamblemike Also being handled. The number of times we answer the same question...I think we need to collate it all
Luis @capprominent Make a statement post on a sub reddit?
Or how about a pre launch live stream coalescing both all the answers but also providing and update on what else will be in the works post launch.

And if you read some sections of BSN or old BSN, you'd think that DAI is a hopeless flop, instead of the most successful Bioware game to date
Anyway - the usual response to developers on twitter that I see is 'it convinced me to buy the game' or 'can't wait to play again!'. Still, either that or our BSN or r/ATG aren't exactly representative of ALL people who are interested or potentially interested with Anthem. It's not really revelatory to say that we are but a small section of players and whatever we discuss between ourselves may not be reflective of statistics that developers or publishers see.
