Except those aren't "new" ways to play with friends. Those are old as dirt. If they just meant and old technique that's new from Bioware, well then that's just a dumb thing to say as a teaser. My guess is that it's more like the Commander role in Battlefield (which, after all, is a Frostbite game). You can solo the campaign, but your friends can login and help you out, maybe by stepping into the shoes of an NPC guide, or maybe act as your air support for dropping you supplies or dropping bombs on an entrenched enemy mob, or trading gear with you, or even temporarily assisting with combat. Kind of a cross between Dark Souls 3 and Battlefield. Yeah, I think that the Dark Souls approach to multiplayer is the one I like the most. So if it's anything like that, it would be great. You know, probably very hard to implement, but would be cool in a multiplayer game if they find a way to interact with the dialog wheel between players. Like, during character creation you choose a personality/voice and the wheel reflects that. Instead of chat or voice chat, you can roleplay by talking with the wheel with another player. Like, your choices of questions/answers are based on your personality/voice. But I doubt something like that would be possible, mainly because it's a very small percentage of players who like the roleplay aspect of games. And because VoIP or chat provides those who want to do it with far better tools than the wheel. The only reason pc responces exist is because of the of interaction. BioWare's Baldur's Gate 1 initial concept was letting the player type responces, but the NPCs did not understand it.

If - by some strange turn of events - this happened, I would play the shit out ouf this game with my friend.

If playing with others during a story campaign, you'd roll to see who would talk at every dialog interval and whoever won would then choose from two options what they wanted to say. I really loved that mechanic.

Question - So the Edmonton division used to work on both Mass Effect and Dragon Age, right? Does that mean they are still big enough to work on two games at the same time now aswell? I mean i want to know what this secret IP is, but if Dragon Age is getting shafted over it, that would make me very sad. We can't wait around for 5 years between each game, this is not Elder Scrolls we're talking about.

Now that MEA is out the door, we should be seeing the studios shift personnel to Dragon Age 4. that said, don't expect DA4 before 2019 at the earliest.

I am Interested, but i don't like the multiplayer angle they've talked about. I need a single player fix from Bioware, that is what i want from them. I don't play Swtor for its Multiplayer components after all, i do it because the stories are great.

I could see something like Destiny. When you play the story you are on your own, but then there is a hub area where you team up with people to do raids and the like. Could be a way to balance it properly. We'll see. Since its due March 2018 we will likely see it on E3 this year, so only a few months left to we know what it is about.

I don't think I can take another massive time investment like that into a game, but if the SP component is as good as SWTOR, I will be happy, and I might try the MP parts a little, but, yeah, I am not that keen on it any more. You need so much build up for it, and so much luck with finding friends when you are nothing special as a player, I just can't do it again. Also, yeah, that whole perfecting yourself as a player and feeling inadequate, just don't like it.

We can't wait around for 5 years between each game, this is not Elder Scrolls we're talking about. These games are staged in such a way that one studio will be able to work on more than one project. The next DA is probably still in planning stage, MEA is done and probably dlcs are done or close to it, New IP is further along than they re letting on full force with writers and such. Some people will move from MEa to new ip some from mea DA, some people are just contracted out. Something brand new like new ip will usually take longer than games in an exisiting series.

Well, the leads never left DA and I suspect they've been in pre-production for a very long time at least if they haven't started full production quite yet, I think they're a little farther along than just the planning stages. Otherwise, yes.

Is it still assumed/confirmed secret ip is the next game to be released? Been going through this thread and da4 and it feels like da4 has more tidbits (which isnt saying much).

I don't mean to sound negative, I guess it's good they're trying new things, but this just doesn't sound like a game for me sadly. Destiny was fun for like a month, and I did not like Division at all. Ah well, back to waiting for confirmation of DA4...

So, basically another BioWare game, another forcibly ugly female protagonist lol. Way to get ahead of yourself - nevermind that we don't even know who's a protag and who's an NPC, nevermind the fact that whether someone is "ugly" is subjective, nevermind that whenever there's female protagonist there are inevitably people judging her on how she looks, nevermind that hardly anyone has seen the game, nevermind that we have no idea how much of it is actually true, nevermind that we have no idea how much the models will change before the release (like they did with DAI) - even the author himself said that the part about protagonist is not 100% certain So yeah - such comments reveal very little about Bioware, but more about yourself... and let's leave it at that till we actually have more solid information on the game.

That's a bit discouraging. I know people on this thread had guessed Destiny/Division-like, but I was hoping against hope that it wasn't even close to those types of games. Why make another grindfest? Particularly one with such lackluster antecedents, and in the case of the Division, egregiously bad reputations?
All I need to hear next is that there will be paywalls and pay-to-win microtransactions and I'm done.
I guess there is one possible silver lining: since those antecedents are so bad, maybe there's a huge opportunity to do them right? Both Destiny and The Division have been roundly criticized for their weak/silly/immoral/worthless stories and characters. Maybe a grindfest with really good characters and story would redefine the category?

I've read this on NeoGAF, and they've closed the topic because Robertson's rumors are very hit or miss. And I think there's two very conflicting rumors going on. I think MMO (even MMO-lite) and fixed protagonist don't mix at all. It would be very weird for Bioware to let us create our own characters in all of their single-player games, but when it's multiplayer they give us a fixed protagonist... Also, there's rumors by the same guy of a KOTOR remake/revival by Bioware Austin going on. Fuck yeah!

I'm skeptical of all the details presented, Destiny-like has been a pretty fair guess and the bit about the ugly female protagonist sounds like somebody with an axe to grind over Sara Ryder.
Reserving judgement until the reveal.
